Lin Jin stood in front of the kitchen sink, staring at the unwashed bowl in her hands. The morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a glow on her face, yet she felt a chill. The argument from the night before echoed in her ears—the cold accusations, the heated tones, and Zhou Kai's impatient expression were like invisible knives, slicing through her heart. 0

In the kitchen, the air felt stagnant. Lin Jin heard Zhou Kai's footsteps at the door as he hurried in, grabbing his coat from the sofa with a grim expression. She hesitated for a moment but finally spoke up, “Zhou Kai, we really need to talk.” 0

“Talk about what?” Zhou Kai replied coldly without looking up. “I’m really busy and don’t have time for this.” 0

Lin Jin's fingers instinctively tightened around her apron as she bit her lip, striving to keep her voice steady. “You keep saying you’re busy, but we can’t let our issues drag on like this. I feel like we haven’t truly communicated in a long time.” 0

At her words, Zhou Kai paused and turned to face her. His eyes were filled with exhaustion and irritation. “Lin Jin, what exactly do you want to say? Can’t you see? I’m exhausted from working all day and just want some peace at home instead of these endless complaints.” 0

“Endless complaints?” Lin Jin felt a wave of grievance wash over her. She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her emotions. “Do you know what I want? I just want you to care about this home, care about me. Is that too much to ask?” 0

Zhou Kai scoffed, his tone growing sharper. “Care? You’re always pushing me to talk about these ‘care’ issues, but have you ever considered my feelings? I come home dead tired and have to deal with these pointless conversations!” 0

Lin Jin’s face paled as she looked at Zhou Kai, feeling lost. “To you, are my feelings that unimportant?” 0

Zhou Kai didn’t respond; instead, he turned and grabbed the car keys from the table, walking toward the door without looking back. His figure disappeared outside, and the door slammed shut with a dull thud, as if announcing some kind of rupture. 0

Lin Jin stood there in a daze, the room enveloped in cold silence. She felt a wave of helplessness wash over her; it was as if something within her had shattered completely at that moment. Slowly, she sank into a chair and gazed at the empty kitchen as tears finally slipped down her cheeks. 0

A few nights later, Lin Jin finally mustered the courage to look through Zhou Kai’s phone. She knew it was an invasion of privacy and that it signified her loss of trust in their marriage, but she could no longer endure the restless nights and Zhou Kai’s increasingly indifferent attitude. 0

She opened Zhou Kai’s chat history, and the words on the screen made her heart plummet. The flirtatious exchanges, the smiling faces and affectionate tones, along with Zhou Kai's concern and tenderness towards another woman—these were all things she hadn’t felt directed at herself in a long time. Lin Jin felt dizzy as if the entire world was collapsing around her. 0

She trembled as she placed her phone back in its spot, trying to calm herself down, but tears had already blurred her vision. She struggled to take deep breaths, yet the pressure in her chest made it nearly impossible to breathe. Her hands shook, and she lacked the strength to stand up, so she sank back into the sofa, hugging her knees and curling herself into a small ball. 0
