On a sunny weekend, Xiao Haochen and Lin Wanqing strolled hand in hand along the tranquil lakeside of the park. A gentle breeze brushed past, creating ripples on the lake's surface, while the weeping willows by the shore swayed as if dancing to accompany the sweet moments of the couple. However, a hint of worry lingered on Lin Wanqing's face.
“Haochen, I need to talk to you about something,” Lin Wanqing said, stopping in her tracks, her eyes revealing a trace of concern.
Xiao Haochen turned around, gently holding her hands and asking with genuine care, “What’s wrong, Wanqing? Is something bothering you?”
Lin Wanqing hesitated for a moment, biting her lip. “My uncle found out about us. He… he doesn’t really approve of our relationship.”
Xiao Haochen's heart tightened at her words, but he forced himself to remain calm and smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, Wanqing. Can you tell me why your uncle disapproves?”
Lin Wanqing lowered her head and spoke softly, “He thinks your family background isn’t good and is afraid that I’ll suffer if I’m with you.”
After a brief silence, Xiao Haochen lifted his head and looked at Lin Wanqing with determination. “Wanqing, I know my current situation isn’t ideal, but I will work hard. I will use my own hands to create a happy life for you.”
Lin Wanqing raised her head, tears glistening in her eyes. “Haochen, I believe in you. But my uncle is very stubborn, and I’m afraid…”
Xiao Haochen gently embraced Lin Wanqing. “It’s okay, Wanqing. We’ll face this together. I believe that as long as we truly love each other, we can convince him.”
A few days later, Lin Wanqing brought Xiao Haochen to her family home. As soon as they entered, Lin Wanqing's uncle, Lin Yaozong, scrutinized Xiao Haochen with a disdainful gaze.
“So you are Xiao Haochen?” Lin Yaozong asked coldly.
“Yes, Uncle,” Xiao Haochen replied politely, making an effort to maintain his smile.
Lin Yaozong snorted, "I'll be straightforward. I do not approve of you being with Wanqing. Just look at yourself; your family is poor. What can you offer Wanqing?"
Xiao Haochen took a deep breath and replied calmly, "Uncle, I admit I don't have much wealth right now, but I have a heart that loves Wanqing. I will work hard to improve myself and bring happiness to her."
Lin Yaozong sneered, "That sounds nice, but the reality of society is harsh. Without money, how can you talk about happiness? Wanqing will only suffer if she follows you."
Lin Wanqing couldn't help but step forward. "Uncle, Haochen is very hardworking. He will definitely succeed in the future. I love him for who he is, not for his background."
Lin Yaozong frowned. "Wanqing, you are still young and do not understand the cruelty of society. I'm doing this for your own good; you cannot be with him."
"Uncle, I have grown up. I know what I want," Lin Wanqing said firmly, gripping Xiao Haochen's hand tightly.
At that moment, Lin Wanqing's parents came down from upstairs. Noticing the tense atmosphere, Lin Wanqing's mother gently asked, "What happened? Is everything alright?"
Lin Wanqing explained the situation to her parents. After listening, her father pondered for a moment and said, "Haochen, we also want Wanqing to be happy. We see your efforts, but marriage is a lifelong commitment, and we hope you can understand our concerns."
Xiao Haochen sincerely replied, "Uncle and Aunt, I understand your worries. I will prove through my actions that I can bring happiness to Wanqing."
Lin Wanqing's mother sighed softly. "We are not completely opposed; we just hope you both can think it over."
After leaving the Lin family home, Xiao Haochen and Lin Wanqing fell into silence. After a long while, Xiao Haochen broke the silence. "Wanqing, I'm sorry for putting you in this position."
Lin Wanqing shook her head. "No, Haochen, this is not your fault. If we work hard together, we can change their minds."
Xiao Haochen looked into Lin Wanqing's determined eyes, feeling a surge of emotion in his heart. He knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but for the sake of their love, he was willing to put in every effort.
