The morning sunlight filtered through the dense leaves, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. Alice, dressed in a simple cotton dress with a small bamboo basket tied around her waist, walked briskly into the woods. 0

She weaved between the trees, her eyes carefully searching for familiar plants. Since arriving in this world, she had discovered many medicinal herbs in the forest, and today she planned to gather more to stock up for the villagers. 0

A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a soft melody that seemed to play a beautiful tune. Alice took a deep breath of the fresh air, savoring the tranquility and beauty of nature. However, this peace did not last long. 0

Suddenly, a cacophony of footsteps and shouts shattered the silence of the forest. Alice's heart raced as she halted her actions, alertly straining to listen. She could hear the clash of swords and the pained groans of men. Driven by curiosity and concern, she cautiously moved toward the source of the noise. 0

As she quietly parted a thicket of bushes, the sight before her made her gasp. A tall man was surrounded by a group of black-clad figures wielding sharp blades. He bore several wounds on his body, blood staining his clothes, yet his eyes were filled with unwavering determination. He swung his sword with fierce energy, each strike infused with a sharp intensity as he fought to fend off his attackers. 0

Alice's heart raced even faster; she had never witnessed such an intense battle. Her first instinct was to turn and flee from this dangerous place, but as she saw the blood continuing to flow from the man's wounds, a sense of compassion welled up within her. She hid behind the bushes, torn between conflicting emotions. On one hand, she knew she was in an unfamiliar world where getting involved in this conflict could lead to her own demise; on the other hand, she couldn't bear to watch someone die right before her eyes. 0

Just as she hesitated, it seemed that the man was losing strength; he stumbled slightly. One of the black-clad figures seized the opportunity to swing his sword at his back. Without thinking twice, Alice picked up a stone from the ground and hurled it with all her might at the attacker. The stone struck true, hitting him squarely on the head, causing him to cry out in pain and stagger. 0

Seizing this momentary distraction, the man quickly retaliated and pushed back against his assailant. He turned his head and their eyes met. In his gaze, Alice saw surprise and confusion, but more than that—exhaustion and defiance. 0

"Get out of here! It's dangerous!" he shouted at Alice. 0

Clenching her teeth, Alice's resolve strengthened. She knew she couldn't just leave like this. Looking around, she spotted a narrow path that might serve as an escape route. 0

"Follow me!" Alice called out to him before turning and running toward the path. The man hesitated for a moment but quickly grasped her intent; he fought off the nearby attackers with renewed vigor and chased after her. 0

Seeing this, the black-clad figures immediately pursued them. Alice and the man ran desperately along the narrow path; branches scraped their skin and thorns snagged their clothes, but they dared not pause for even a moment. Alice's heart pounded violently in her chest as her breath quickened, yet her gaze remained resolute. 0

Finally, after a fierce chase, they temporarily shook off the men in black. Alice led the man to a secluded cave. The cave was dark and damp, but at that moment, it served as their temporary refuge. 0

The man leaned against the stone wall of the cave, gasping for breath. His face was as pale as paper, and his wounds continued to ooze blood. Alice looked at him, her heart filled with concern. 0

"Rest for a moment; I'll help you with your wounds," Alice said as she took out the herbs she had gathered earlier from her bamboo basket. 0

The man watched her, a flicker of complex emotions crossing his eyes—gratitude mixed with wariness. But at that moment, he had no other choice but to let Alice tend to his injuries. 0

Alice carefully cleaned his wounds, her movements gentle and practiced. During this process, she occasionally glanced up at him, noticing that he was watching her intently, his gaze filled with caution. 0

"Don't worry; I won't hurt you," Alice said softly. 0

He nodded slightly but remained on guard. 0

Alice knew that gaining the complete trust of this stranger would take time. For now, she just hoped to help him recover quickly so they could figure out how to deal with those men in black together. 0

This encounter in the forest would become an unforgettable experience for her, one that would completely alter the destinies of both her and the man. 0
