It was originally just something she wrote for fun. If it were posted online, wouldn’t that be the end of her?
Well then! It’s about time to eat, right, Lin Menghan? Looking at Lin Menghan, Xu Nancheng felt a bit useless as he clutched his stomach, clearly hungry.
“Oh, I really can’t deal with you!” Lin Menghan thought to herself. Watching someone she liked enjoy the food she made would surely be a happiness in itself.
“Alright then!” Xu Nancheng didn’t really want to wait any longer; he was starving.
But seeing the fiery gaze of the girl in front of him, he still agreed.
“Nancheng, can you help me out?”
“Sure!”
“Nancheng! Bring over the oil!”
“Got it!”
“Nancheng! Where’s the salt?”
“Coming right up!”
Their voices were cheerful as Lin Menghan orchestrated everything while Xu Nancheng busily ran around, fetching things here and there.
After a flurry of activity, they finally settled into a calm moment. In the kitchen, they were waiting for the pot of tomato and egg soup to finish cooking.
Lin Menghan stood at the stove while Xu Nancheng stood not far behind her, watching her intently. The steam carried the aroma of the food along with Lin Menghan’s subtle fragrance, enveloping Xu Nancheng.
He closed his eyes and savored the enchanting scent that wafted towards him. Of course, what drove him wild was Lin Menghan’s fragrance!
Gradually, he became entranced. He leaned closer to Lin Menghan. At that moment, she was completely unaware of Xu Nancheng’s unusual behavior behind her, focused solely on the pot in front of her.
Suddenly, she felt a rush of warm breath against her cheek, the heat brushing through her hair, and something pressed against her back.
"Lin Menghan, you smell so good," he said, his face close to hers. If she turned her head even slightly, their lips would almost touch. Xu Nancheng's voice seemed to carry a certain magic; it was soft and gentle.
She could hear his breathing near her ear, and her mind went blank, her body frozen in place. After a moment, she regained her senses but didn’t pull away. Instead, she shyly protested, "Nancheng, stop it!"
"Can you not be like this? It’s so strange," she thought to herself, feeling an overwhelming sense of embarrassment. Her head lowered as her breathing quickened.
It felt even more embarrassing than when Xu Nancheng had held her before—back then, it was out of fear of the dark, and she hadn’t had time to think about it. But now, his presence was intoxicating! As he continued to inhale her scent deeply, his nose almost brushed against her delicate face.
Under the weight of his breath, Lin Menghan didn’t know how to respond; she simply let Xu Nancheng savor the fragrance that surrounded her. It wasn’t until the rice cooker beeped twice that they snapped back to reality.
“Lin Menghan, I’m sorry!” He quickly moved away, creating some distance between them and turning his face to the side, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment as he dared not look at her.
The moment had been too intimate—just a man and a woman alone together in a room. He felt it was his fault; cooking was supposed to be a normal activity, but being captivated by her had made things awkward for both of them.
Lin Menghan didn’t turn around or say anything; she simply kept her head down and fiddled with the hem of her shirt. She hadn’t heard what Xu Nancheng had just said.
What’s wrong with him? Why did he suddenly get so close? What if he suddenly hugged or kissed me?
Thankfully! Thank goodness it was Nancheng! He would never do something like that.
Indeed, despite everything that had happened, Xu Nancheng had only taken a moment to breathe in her scent without crossing any lines. He hadn’t made any inappropriate moves at all.
Xu Nancheng was definitely a gentleman; Lin Menghan had always believed that about him.
“Lin Menghan?” he called out again tentatively, his voice trembling slightly. He was afraid she might just ignore him completely.
Lin Menghan finally regained her composure, but she still didn’t turn around, feeling undeniably embarrassed.
"I'm sorry! I shouldn’t have done that!"
Xu Nancheng stammered, but his guilt was unmistakable.
"Can you forgive me?" he tentatively asked again.
"Next time, don’t do this again! I’ll let it go this time!" She buried her head even lower.
After saying that, she regretted it. What did she mean by letting it go this time? Was she being too lenient with him? What if he did this again next time?
In truth, she felt no resistance to the situation; deep down, she was quite enjoying this strange sensation. Just moments ago, Xu Nancheng had been pressed closely against her, his warm breath gently brushing past her ear like a soft breeze, stirring her hair.
His proximity allowed her to feel his presence clearly, and that overwhelming sense of security flowed through her like a warm current, slowly filling her heart.
However, despite the joy and satisfaction swelling within her, it was undeniable that such intimate contact made her cheeks flush and left her feeling shy and unable to control her emotions.
"I-I won’t do that again," he hurriedly said.
