Amidst the clamor, the male students eagerly rushed to help their classmate move the desks and chairs. After all, if they were moving furniture, it was a perfect excuse for everyone to join in and get familiar with their surroundings. This was a chance to be alone with such a beautiful classmate—who wouldn’t want to take part? With a little emotional intelligence, one might even leave a good impression and perhaps find themselves no longer single.
However, this situation completely shattered Xu Nancheng's composure. He felt an overwhelming sense of irritation bubbling within him; he wanted to join in too! Biting his lip tightly, he looked up just in time to meet Lin Menghan's sparkling, expectant gaze.
In that moment, he decided to go for it. He stood up abruptly, fists clenched, and hurried over to Lin Menghan's side. Without hesitation, he grabbed her wrist and dashed out of the classroom.
Lin Menghan was startled by his sudden action but felt a strange mix of shyness and delight. Without a moment's hesitation, she followed Xu Nancheng out of the classroom.
While others were caught up in their own competition, he was leading his future girlfriend away.
The classmates who witnessed this were left speechless, their eyes wide with astonishment as silence enveloped the room. What was happening? This wasn’t fair!
Soon, an uproar erupted—how could Xu Nancheng act like this? Were they not supposed to compete fairly? Some even shouted in protest, incredulous that he could just take his goddess by the hand and run off like that.
In one corner of the classroom, Xu Dong and Chen Yi exchanged amused glances, their smiles stretching from ear to ear. It was as if Nancheng had transformed overnight; he used to barely glance at anyone but now was boldly whisking away a classmate right in front of everyone.
Once outside the classroom, Xu Nancheng slowed his pace, walking side by side with Lin Menghan as if they were leisurely strolling. Unable to contain his feelings any longer, he grasped her small hand tightly. His voice was low but firm: “Lin Menghan, can you please stop accepting those random advances from other guys?”
Lin Menghan felt a wave of amusement at his jealousy. Perhaps it stemmed from his insecurity; he always worried about being overshadowed by others. Yet seeing him like this brought a smile to her face.
Of course, she wanted to avoid unnecessary interactions with boys who had feelings for her out of respect for Xu Nancheng. However, she also believed in maintaining her own principles and boundaries; she couldn’t simply comply without question.
“Why?” she asked gently, her tone laced with warmth.
“I just don’t want to see you getting too close to them,” Xu Nancheng murmured quietly.
He knew he shouldn’t impose such restrictions on Lin Menghan since they weren’t officially dating yet; he had no right to say anything. But it hurt him nonetheless.
Yet they were so enthusiastic! He couldn’t let them press their warm cheeks against her cold shoulder.
"Is it really okay?" Xu Nancheng's voice was a bit hoarse.
Lin Menghan looked at Xu Nancheng in confusion; his expression clearly showed he wasn't feeling secure.
No way, no way! Is he about to cry? Such a jealous little guy, such a crybaby!
These words might be fitting for a girl, but they also applied to Xu Nancheng.
Sigh, there's really no way around him; after all, his name is Xu Nancheng. Lin Menghan shook her head. Well, I just need to keep my distance from them! But maintaining distance only goes so far; after all, we still have to talk. What a little jealous one! She pouted and smiled at Xu Nancheng again.
Yes, I'm jealous. He admitted without hesitation.
As for Chen Yige and the others, Lin Menghan thought, there's no way I can avoid getting close to them.
They're nothing much. Xu Nancheng hurried to explain; he still believed that neither of them would try to compete with him.
Listening to Xu Nancheng speak, Lin Menghan subtly tightened her grip on his hand.
Since classes hadn't officially started yet, many students from other classes were still in the hallway.
Seeing the two holding hands openly, some couldn't help but whisper, "Wow! These two are bold! They don't care about the teachers at all!"
Exactly! If the teacher catches them, they'll know that trouble is brewing.
You don't know this, but he's the top student; the teacher wouldn't dare interfere with him!
Forget it, forget it! I won't look anymore; it's too sour!
Xu Nancheng's name was well-known in their grade, but not many could recognize him.
Hearing those comments made Xu Nancheng feel a bit embarrassed, but compared to that, he still preferred the feeling of holding the girl's hand.
This is what one desires more than life itself; thus, it cannot be obtained easily.
They arrived at a platform after coming down from the third floor. Since it was built against a hill, this area was almost at ground level.
Once they stepped off the platform onto the ground, Xu Nancheng pointed to the building ahead. "That building is the Laboratory Building; it's newly constructed. We need to move desks and chairs over there."
He then turned to Lin Menghan and pointed towards the Three Buildings. "This is our teaching building. From right to left are A Building, Building Two, and Three Buildings. We are in A Building."
"And next to us are Building Four and Building Five. Got it, Lin Menghan?"
"Oh wow! This high school feels pretty big!" She widened her eyes as she looked at the teaching buildings, marveling at the size of the campus.
"Well, it is a bit big. I used to throw it away," Xu Nancheng said, scratching his head apologetically.
"Oh, then I need to be careful," Lin Menghan feigned fear.
"I won't let you lose it," he said, looking at Lin Menghan with a gentle tone.
He thought to himself that he wanted to stay by her side, not letting her get lost or misplace anything, and ensuring she always found her way home.
Upon hearing this, Lin Menghan hurriedly glanced around, her cheeks flushing again.
"What’s wrong with him?" she wondered. He always caught her off guard with such cheesy lines.
With not many people around, she sighed in relief.
"Alright! Let's quickly move the tables and chairs; the teachers and classmates are still waiting!" She wanted to escape from Xu Nancheng's sweet talk as soon as possible.
