Damn it, my dignity feels like nothing in Yu Jiamin's office... Yet here I am, feeling surprisingly relaxed after serving tea and water.
Home!
Yes, home. You don't realize how quickly life can swing from highs to lows until you experience it yourself.
As I pushed the door open, I found Yao Hui sitting on the windowsill, her phone aimed at me, playing a video. It was the footage from outside the bridal chamber, showing Yu Jiamin stepping out. I had no idea when Yao Hui had accessed the hallway surveillance footage.
"Don't come any closer!" Yao Hui had one leg already dangling outside the window.
"I'm not coming over; just don't be impulsive," I said nervously, standing at the door and unwilling to move.
"You lied to me! You betrayed me! You promised that there would never be suspicion or betrayal between us. I trusted you so much..." She was crying, trembling all over.
"Just come down; we can talk this out." We lived on the fourth floor—not too high, but if she jumped, she could end up dead or severely injured.
Yao Hui had never been this agitated before. Usually, aside from moments of indulgence when she was with me, she was the perfect obedient girl at home and work.
"What else is there to say?" Her voice became sharp again. "Today a colleague called me and said you came to the office looking for me. Are you investigating me? You even froze your salary card; you suspect me, don't you?"
"Listen to me..." I pulled out the gift I had prepared for her at noon. "I went to your office to surprise you; come see what I've got."
"Oh right, the salary card is being switched to a different bank because our company wants to standardize the accounts. Once the new card arrives, I'll hand it over to you."
"Really?"
"Really. When have I ever lied to you? And about that video you have, what does it prove? Just because they took you to a hotel doesn't mean they didn't go inside."
My words seemed to hit a nerve, and she suddenly became agitated.
"No! I never let them in!"
If they didn't go in, then where did all that mess come from? What was she really afraid of?
I took a couple of steps forward. "Alright, fine, they didn't go in, but nothing happened between me and manager Yu either. I was drunk, and she was sleeping on the sofa. I didn't even know when she left."
"Don't come any closer! I can't trust you anymore!" She raised her other leg.
"I'm not coming over!" I panicked.
"Sign it! I want you to sign your name on the House Deed right now, immediately!"
"Okay, okay, I'll do it right away. Just wait for me; I'm calling the Real Estate Center!"
I quickly closed the door and rushed out. First, I called the fire department for a ladder rescue, then I called my mom to discuss the feasibility of adding a name to the House Deed.
Feasibility my foot... How could my dad's House Deed possibly have his daughter-in-law's name added? Even if we wanted to transfer it, it would take at least a week for the paperwork, and we're still in the loan repayment period—it's incredibly complicated.
There was no choice; to keep Hui calm, I contacted those shady people for the first time in my life—document processing.
After that, I called Yao Hui and told her I needed to go out for the name change procedures and begged her to come down first. She said she wouldn't meet me without seeing the House Deed!
Sometimes you just have to admit defeat; these people really are talented at what they do.
I completed this fake House Deed in just half an hour.
When I returned home, the firefighters on the ladder were confronting Yao Hui. A few team members were also ready to break down the door at my entrance.
"Brothers, it's a misunderstanding! I have a way to persuade my wife to come down, just wait a moment!" I quickly opened the door and held up the House Deed for Yao Hui to see.
