After a pleasant meal, the four of them headed towards their respective companies. Lan Ruo Yi and Liu Ru Yan strolled to work as usual. Mo Wan and Liu Yuchuan said their goodbyes and walked toward their cars. After Liu Yuchuan finished tidying up, he left as well, leaving the entire villa in silence.
A sneaky figure lingered at the entrance of the villa for a long time before finally leaving, unaware of the ominous red light flickering in the upper right corner of the building.
“Lalalala, good morning everyone! Did you sleep well last night?” Liu Ru Yan, full of energy after a hearty breakfast, shone like the rising sun.
“Not bad, at least I’m still alive!” Zhang Baofeng replied dully. Tian Luo took a moment to say goodnight to them, while Li Meng rushed in just before work started.
Bai Juan was already seated when she heard Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi’s lively greetings. She trembled as she opened her bleary eyes, which were filled with bloodshot veins.
Wang Liling stared at her in shock. “Wow, did you go rob a bank last night?”
Wang Liling’s exclamation drew everyone’s attention, and they gathered around Bai Juan, each starting to inquire about her condition.
“What on earth happened to you?” Chen Chao asked incredulously. “Your eyes look terrible!”
“Is it really okay for you all to be staring at me like this?” Bai Juan weakly raised her gaze to the crowd surrounding her.
“What’s going on? Aren’t you supposed to be at work?” Li Meng arrived late and looked curiously at the group huddled together.
“Meng Meng, take a look at her!” Dong Li said, pushing through the crowd to reveal Bai Juan in the center. Li Meng was taken aback.
“Me? What are you talking about??” Li Meng stammered, struggling to comprehend what had happened. She recalled that nothing unusual had occurred yesterday.
“Did you have a fight with your husband last night?” Li Meng could only guess this possibility since nothing else seemed to have happened.
Bai Juan’s eyes filled with confusion as she stared at Li Meng, as if asking: “What are you talking about? I have a husband? When did that happen?”
Upon hearing Li Meng's comment, everyone genuinely believed that Bai Juan had gotten married and began to swarm around her with gossip: “How did you know?”
“When did she get married?”
“Does she have a partner?”
Li Meng was also bewildered; she had just said it casually, yet people actually believed it.
“Huh? I don’t know! I just said it offhand; you don’t have to take it seriously!”
With that, Li Meng turned on her heel and walked away with an exaggerated gait, leaving behind a group of confused individuals.
“It’s fine; let’s get back to work. I’m used to it anyway. Thank you all for your concern; you’re really nice!” After such commotion, Bai Juan felt much better, though her eyes were still red and puffy.
Everyone actively returned to their tasks, or at least appeared to do so on the surface.
It was truly terrifying for her. Is everything alright? Lan Ruo Yi looked at Bai Juan, still uncertain if she was okay. She had never seen eyes so red before.
Should it be fine? Probably? Maybe it’s nothing? She said so herself, but it was still too frightening. Liu Ru Yan, sitting in her seat and about to say something, noticed their group chat lighting up with messages.
"Xiao Sha De Ma Luo": Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!!
From the tone of this person’s message, it seemed they had discovered some shocking news.
"Divorced With Two Kids": What’s going on?
Bai Juan caught the scent and came over.
"Hong Shixian": Xiao Sha De Ma Luo, do you know too?
"Xiao Ling Tong": Hong Shixian, you know as well?
"Lan Yue Liang": What exactly do you all know???
Seeing the flurry of messages from this group, Liu Ru Yan felt like she was covered in fleas, itching all over. Yet these people wouldn’t say anything, just playing coy.
"Liu Xia Sui": Ahhhh! Please, everyone, grant us some information!
"Hong Shixian": Oh, it’s just that Li Meng is temporarily our supervisor now.
"Future First Leader": I didn’t plan to manage anything.
"Xiao Ling Tong": That doesn’t matter; the company is about to send out a notice anyway.
Li Meng sat in her office feeling uncomfortable. She never liked dealing with such matters. Although she was the sales manager, that was only because there were still leaders in the sales department. She held a title but never intended to manage people.
As long as everyone was doing fine, she could pretend not to know anything. But now it felt quite unpleasant.
What’s going on? Liu Ru Yan didn’t understand. Sister Na had left; hadn’t they interviewed a new leader? What was happening?
Hey, think about it—none of them have mentioned Sister Na at all until now. Is it possible they know where she is? Lan Ruo Yi propped her chin on her hand, pondering wisely.
Should we investigate? Liu Ru Yan made a quick decision and prepared to get up and head elsewhere when Lan Ruo Yi reached out and grabbed her arm.
“Slow down! Do you even know who to look for?” Lan Ruo Yi hadn’t expected Liu Ru Yan to be so bold, charging ahead without hesitation.
Liu Ru Yan's gaze turned towards a spot behind them. Lan Ruo Yi followed her line of sight, and they exchanged a glance that confirmed their target.
Is it really her?
It must be!
Dry!
