"Uncle, let's talk."
It felt strange to hear Mo Daowan refer to himself as "Uncle." Liu Yuchuan sensed that something was off.
"Uncle?" Lan Ruo Yi and Liu Ru Yan were also taken aback by his choice of words, yet Mo Daowan seemed completely unfazed by any potential awkwardness.
As Liu Ru Yan removed the ice pack again, Mo Daowan glanced at her, prompting Liu Ru Yan to quickly cover her mouth.
"What's the problem? My sister's uncle is my uncle too; it's the same thing."
After saying this, Mo Daowan turned to Liu Yuchuan. He indeed had something to discuss with him and believed Liu Yuchuan would be quite interested.
Hearing Mo Daowan's words, Liu Ru Yan didn't find anything wrong either. Only Lan Ruo Yi looked thoughtfully at Mo Daowan, shaking her head in disbelief. It seemed her brother had fallen for his own sister's charm.
As she thought this, she scrutinized Liu Ru Yan with her eyes. Indeed, she was impressive—tall and charming, with a bright smile that revealed pearly white teeth and sparkling eyes.
As for Mo Daowan, he had a lean physique when dressed and muscular when undressed. If she remembered correctly, he enjoyed working out, which perfectly matched Liu Ru Yan's aesthetic preferences. His scholarly appearance, complete with glasses, added to his appeal—yes, they were quite a match!
"What are you doing?" Liu Ru Yan felt a chill run down her spine from Lan Ruo Yi's gaze and nudged her sister, who wore an amused grin.
Lan Ruo Yi snapped out of her daze and realized that Liu Yuchuan and Mo Daowan had already left without her noticing. The thought made her laugh uncontrollably as she collapsed onto the sofa.
Liu Ru Yan raised an eyebrow in confusion. "What’s going on? I can’t believe this," she muttered before rolling her eyes and retreating to her bedroom.
Sister Na's departure was understandable; there was no one here who respected her anyway, and there was no point in staying if she wasn't making any money.
What truly unnerved her was how quickly she seemed to vanish without a trace. She began to entertain conspiracy theories as she picked up her phone.
"Mo, what's going on?" Back on the third floor, both men's expressions turned serious. They dropped their earlier pretense of relaxation; Liu Yuchuan only appeared less formal around Liu Ru Yan.
Mo Daowan pulled out a document from behind him and placed it in front of Liu Yuchuan, signaling him to take a look. "I think you’ll find this document very interesting!"
Liu Yuchuan skeptically picked up the document. The more he read, the brighter his eyes became until he finally closed it. "What do you need me to do?"
"As long as you help me cover for anything I might need when dealing with Liu Zong, I assure you it won't violate any laws," Mo Daowan replied confidently.
Hearing this made Liu Yuchuan feel somewhat anxious; the value of the document was worth the risk involved. "I agree."
"Pleasure doing business with you."
Afterward, Mo Daowan left. He had come specifically to find Liu Yuchuan but took a moment before leaving to sneak upstairs and peek into the bedroom where Liu Ru Yan was already asleep with her phone in hand. He gently closed the door behind him as he left.
As Mo Daowan descended the stairs, he unexpectedly ran into his sister, Lan Ruo Yi. A hint of a mischievous smile danced in her eyes.
"What's that about?" Mo Daowan asked, puzzled. "That's a bit unsettling."
"Come on, just be honest with me. Did you and A Yan really...?" Lan Ruo Yi teased, her eyebrows raised suggestively. Mo Daowan understood her implication and found it hard to believe that such a lewd expression could come from his sister.
"Stop overthinking it!" he replied, playfully flicking her forehead before turning to head down the stairs and out the door.
Rubbing her forehead where he had flicked her, Lan Ruo Yi muttered under her breath, "You come here and still won't admit it."
As Mo Daowan stepped outside, he felt the air was fresher. It was true; even though they hadn’t formally recognized each other, just seeing her made life feel hopeful again.
Liu Yuchuan reviewed the information on Mo Daowan he had gathered. It included Wang Yang's criminal record, evidence, and a timeline of his activities—everything was clear and straightforward. With this information in hand, Liu Yuchuan felt confident about taking down Wang Yang.
Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi were also able to uncover some useful details, making things a bit easier for them.
"A Yan is eating!" Lan Ruo Yi remarked as she looked at Liu Ru Yan, who was lazily sprawled on the bed. She felt a rare sense of helplessness; she shouldn’t have chatted so much with her earlier in the afternoon when Liu Ru Yan seemed so low on energy.
Back in the days of the Cold Palace, this was especially evident during winter. Liu Ru Yan would go to bed early but could never seem to wake up on time. Once, Lan Ruo Yi had slipped some money to the physician to check on Liu Ru Yan and discovered that she had been somewhat undernourished since childhood.
Now that they were in this new era, they weren’t struggling for survival anymore; however, they faced new challenges—similar to the Cold Palace but in a different company.
"Ugh, I can't get up!" Liu Ru Yan groaned as she buried her head under the covers. She really didn’t want to rise; it was still early enough for sleep despite having napped all afternoon.
"Just eat first! Your uncle made it specially for you—he cooked your favorite century egg and lean meat congee!" Lan Ruo Yi continued to tempt Liu Ru Yan, who immediately sat up at the mention of food.
