"Oh no, what's wrong with Ru Yan?" Dong Li walked over from her seat, initially intending to get some water and casually ask about the situation earlier.
She saw Liu Ru Yan looking flushed, her eyes dazed and slightly foolish.
"Li Jie, A Yan might have a fever. I need to take her to the hospital, so I’m asking for leave," Lan Ruo Yi said, not waiting for a response.
Just then, Li Meng's office door opened, and Jiang Nan walked out with Chen Chao. Jiang Nan's gaze was drawn to the two of them; seeing Liu Ru Yan's condition made it clear what had happened.
"Don't worry about it. Just talk to the boss yourself," Dong Li said, patting Lan Ruo Yi on the shoulder.
Lan Ruo Yi forced a smile that looked somewhat bitter. Although she didn't enjoy interacting with the boss, she was willing to do anything for Liu Ru Yan.
"What’s going on?" Jiang Nan asked, noticing that Lan Ruo Yi seemed to have something to say. His tone was gentle.
"Boss, Ru Yan isn’t feeling well. I’m taking her to the hospital this afternoon; please approve my leave," Lan Ruo Yi said while supporting the dizzy Liu Ru Yan.
Jiang Nan chuckled teasingly, "No need to be so nervous. I won’t bite. I approve it; she looks like she can’t wait any longer. Go ahead."
Hearing this, Lan Ruo Yi sighed in relief and quickly took out her phone to call Mo Daowan, hoping he could come pick her up.
When Mo Daowan heard that Liu Ru Yan had a fever, he canceled the afternoon meeting. His assistant approached the office just as Mo Daowan was getting dressed.
"Boss? What’s going on?" the assistant asked cautiously, not daring to speak too loudly since his boss was notoriously tight-lipped.
"Cancel all my meetings this afternoon. If you can’t cancel any, you attend them for me. If there’s anything uncertain, bring it to me," Mo Daowan instructed.
The assistant knew he couldn’t refuse at this moment; otherwise, what kind of assistant would he be?
"Can I ask what’s going on?" Assistant Tu Nan mustered his courage to inquire but quickly shut his mouth when he received a sharp glare from Mo Daowan. He watched as his boss left.
However, he could guess who was involved; silence spoke volumes about Miss Lan or the person in his boss's heart.
Speaking of that person, he had no idea who they were or where they were because that was the only time Mo Daowan hadn’t taken him on a business trip. Every time he thought about it, he regretted it deeply.
After contacting Mo Daowan, Lan Ruo Yi hesitated whether to call Liu Yuchuan when her phone began vibrating. Balancing Liu Ru Yan with one hand, she fished her phone out of her pocket with the other.
Seeing it was Liu Yuchuan calling made her heart skip a beat—wasn’t this just how things went when trouble arose?
"Hello? Uncle?" Lan Ruo Yi's voice carried a hint of uncertainty. Liu Yuchuan sensed something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what exactly felt wrong.
Where is Xiao Yan? Liu Yuchuan couldn't reach Liu Ru Yan; she wasn't responding to messages or answering calls, making him think he had been blocked. So, he decided to call Lan Ruo Yi for confirmation.
"Uncle, I was just about to tell you, A Yan has a fever. I just contacted my brother to pick us up; I'm taking her to the hospital." Lan Ruo Yi closed her eyes, momentarily forgetting her fear of Liu Yuchuan.
She thought about how this man was A Yan's uncle, her family. Although she didn't want to admit it, he deserved to know.
After saying that, she heard silence on the other end of the line, and she fell silent too.
"Liu Yuchuan?"
"A Yan has a fever? That strong body of hers is running a fever?" Liu Yuchuan instinctively felt something was off and remained silent.
He didn't realize how much psychological burden his silence placed on Lan Ruo Yi during that time.
"Uncle? Are you still there?" Lan Ruo Yi tentatively asked. "It's really my fault for not noticing her condition right away, but please don't worry."
After she spoke, she heard movement on the other end—sounds of someone walking toward the door.
"It's fine. Which hospital? I'll arrange it." Liu Yuchuan hadn't intended to question her but felt he should acknowledge her sudden apology.
After all, she was his niece, even if she often drove him crazy.
"People's Hospital."
"Your brother has arrived, right?" Liu Yuchuan couldn't believe that Mo Daowan hadn't shown up yet.
Hearing his question, Lan Ruo Yi turned to look for Mo Daowan and soon spotted the familiar Maserati not far from her.
"Yes, he's here. Uncle, I’ll hang up now." She said before ending the call as Mo Daowan parked the car.
He walked over to them and bent down to pick up the already unsteady Liu Ru Yan, turning to Lan Ruo Yi, who was still standing there in a daze.
"Come on! Why are you just standing there?"
"Wait, why are you moving so fast? I didn't have time to react!"
"Are you really that logical?"
"Help!" Lan Ruo Yi was still processing the naturalness of Mo Daowan's earlier actions when she suddenly heard her own cry for help.
