"Is there really no problem? You might as well donate your eyes," Lan Ruo Yi thought, feeling a bit taken aback by Mo Daowan's lack of consideration for her feelings. However, she quickly remembered that her own thoughts had mirrored Mo Daowan's just moments ago.
Liu Yuchuan took a closer look at the test results, snapping a photo of the clearly abnormal numbers and sending it to someone. After receiving a reply, he would hear Mo Daowan's sharp words directed at others.
"There really isn't any problem; I just asked as well," Liu Yuchuan reassured Mo Daowan, who finally felt relieved enough to call Tu Nan and arrange for his discharge.
"Boss, have you considered my feelings?" Tu Nan replied, though he didn't need to intervene. As Liu Yuchuan's uncle, he had already handled everything.
"What did the boss want to talk to you about?" Tian Luo asked casually, holding a cigarette in one hand and looking at Chen Chao with an indifferent expression.
As smoke curled around them, Chen Chao felt no offense; instead, she was happy to be so close to Tian Luo. She didn’t say much, only mentioning the matter regarding Sister Na. Chen Chao had no secrets from Tian Luo, who was on her side.
"But you don't believe that Jiang Nan only mentioned this matter," Tian Luo said casually but with certainty in his tone.
"And he also mentioned Meng Jie," Tian Luo added nonchalantly.
Chen Chao hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded. "Jiang Zong said Meng Jie might be leaving and asked me to keep an eye on the others."
Tian Luo scoffed lightly, while Chen Chao looked puzzled. However, Tian Luo showed no intention of clarifying his thoughts.
Watching Tian Luo walk away, Chen Chao clenched her fists tightly before relaxing them again. She hadn’t told the whole truth; Jiang Nan had indeed mentioned that Li Meng would be leaving, but that wasn’t the complete message. He wanted her to find an opportunity to bring Li Meng to Wan Zheng Hu Tong.
That place was filled with unpredictable events. Sister Na had been killed because of it; everyone believed it was an accident. But Chen Chao knew that Jiang Nan's miscalculation had led to Sister Na's death. Yet what did it matter? As long as she could achieve her goals.
Previously, she hadn’t felt compelled to act, but now things were different—she wanted Tian Luo.
Tian Luo left without realizing that Chen Chao was filled with lies and still thought she could be liked so much. But perhaps it was all just human greed driven by desire.
Still, it was entertaining in its own way. She just hoped she wouldn’t end up being played too harshly in this game.
Li Meng stood in the place where Sister Na had met her demise. She had come here to find something crucial; only by obtaining it could she leave this place completely.
She searched around, her flashlight illuminating the ground as she carefully felt her way through the underbrush. Finally, she uncovered a disk hidden among the grass. After securing it, she dialed Jiang Zong's number.
"Jiang Zong, I’ve found what I was looking for. I’ve set a meeting at Jingyuan Pavilion; we’ll see each other shortly."
After finishing the call, she made another one: "Sun Zong, I promised you. You need to protect me."
Once she hung up, she started her car and headed towards Jingyuan Pavilion. She had also made a copy of the information, just in case. She knew Jiang Zong all too well.
Working here had opened her eyes to the kind of people she was dealing with and the nature of their activities.
"Jiang Zong, please have a seat. It’s been a while since we sat down like this to chat," Li Meng initiated the conversation as she settled in.
Jiang Nan smiled, but there was something unsettling about his grin. "Yes, I remember when you first arrived; you were just a little girl. Look at you now—you’ve grown up."
"Growing up makes it harder to control," Li Meng thought to herself, knowing exactly what he implied without needing to say it.
"Jiang Zong, I won’t beat around the bush. Here’s the information you wanted." Li Meng placed the disk on the table and slid it toward Jiang Nan.
He picked it up and toyed with it in his hands while continuing to speak about Li Meng: "I remember when you first started; you were so stubborn, saying you wanted to quit. Yet here you are, working diligently and even topping the sales charts. Did you ever think I would let you go?"
His words made Li Meng instinctively uncomfortable, but she had grown accustomed to such remarks.
"Jiang Zong, with all due respect, I trust you completely. I know what this information entails."
Jiang Nan chuckled, this time genuinely pleased. Both of them understood that their friendly conversation could not continue any longer; it would only lead to mutual destruction.
He took the disk and left, leaving Li Meng alone in the private room with only the sound of her eating breaking the silence.
She didn’t particularly enjoy eating; rather, she felt that skipping this meal would be a waste. At least by eating, she could find some comfort in her situation. She couldn’t help but wonder who would be the next unfortunate soul after her departure.
Could it be Lan Ruo Yi? Perhaps not; Liu Ru Yan didn’t seem that clever. Now, Li Meng couldn’t decipher Jiang Nan’s standards for judging people either.
Zhang Na had worked with him for so long and was discarded just like that—like tossing out garbage without a second thought.
