With that thought, Liu Ru Yan suddenly burst into laughter, amused by her own simplicity. Mo Daowan was puzzled by her laughter, sensing something was off.
"I'm a bit worried about you!" Mo Daowan quickly expressed his concern, fearing he might hear something he didn't want to.
Liu Ru Yan's smile faltered. "What’s there to worry about? I won't die anyway!"
Her nonchalant attitude towards her own life stirred something in Mo Daowan. He stepped forward and half-squatted in front of her, gripping her shoulders and looking intently into her eyes. "Don't say that. What if something happens? Have you thought about how your family would feel?"
How would Liu Yuchuan feel?
As she listened to Mo Daowan speak, Liu Ru Yan found it strange that he had stopped calling him "Uncle" just now.
Then she heard Mo Daowan say something else, and her face flushed bright red, her ears burning as well.
Just as the atmosphere between them grew a bit awkward, footsteps echoed from the stairs—footsteps that were unmistakable.
No one walked with such a rhythmic thud except Liu Yuchuan.
Mo Daowan was jolted back to reality by the sound of footsteps. He released Liu Ru Yan's shoulders and obediently sat down on the sofa beside her.
Liu Ru Yan was still lost in thought about what he had just said: "What do you want me to do?"
It was somewhat amusing; in their past lives, they had both died before reaching adulthood. Although they had crossed over and aged, aside from their age, she really didn’t look old at all. Her appearance was youthful, even childlike, not to mention having gone through so much emotionally.
When Liu Yuchuan came down, he saw this scene: Liu Ru Yan sitting dazedly in the middle of the sofa with a rosy complexion, while Mo Daowan sat beside her with an upright posture, looking as if he wanted to be left alone.
Liu Yuchuan instinctively scanned the living room but didn’t see any familiar faces. A hint of surprise crossed his eyes; for the first time, Liu Ru Yan was not accompanied by Lan Ruo Yi.
He hesitated, unsure whether to ask what was happening.
"What are you doing here?" Liu Ru Yan asked disdainfully, her tone blunt from the start.
Liu Yuchuan felt speechless. What had he been worried about? It seemed like only Mo Daowan could be bullied here; Liu Ru Yan would never allow herself to be mistreated.
"Why do you care? How did you get out?" Liu Yuchuan snapped back at Liu Ru Yan as if they had always been at odds in their past lives. Yet, out of concern for his younger relative, he still managed to ask a question.
He then saw Liu Ru Yan looking troubled as she gazed at him. Her red lips parted slightly: "Uncle, I thought we were family."
A sense of foreboding washed over Liu Yuchuan as he heard her next question: "What did you do last night?"
"Ah? Discovered? No way??? But then again, maybe not. This little girl is quite the sly one."
He swallowed hard and said with some difficulty, "You already know?"
Liu Ru Yan was also taken aback, not expecting to gain anything from her casual remark.
"Truly a remarkable uncle and nephew," Mo Daowan commented.
Liu Yuchuan felt a mix of pride and impending doom. Closing his eyes, he began to mumble, "I really didn't intend to tell your parents, but someone saw it, so I had to come clean."
"Who? Who? Who?" Liu Ru Yan couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Wait, you weren't supposed to bring this up?" Liu Yuchuan realized he had almost confessed too quickly, as if he had heard the sound of death approaching.
"I just wanted to ask where you were last night. Why are you confessing so soon? What did you say behind my back???" Liu Ru Yan was surprised to find herself unexpectedly gaining information!
Liu Yuchuan felt guilty. "Yanyan, your uncle was—"
Ding dong, ding dong, ding dong! The doorbell rang three times, interrupting Liu Yuchuan's impending confession.
Hearing the commotion made Liu Yuchuan even more anxious. Liu Ru Yan impatiently looked at him. "Open the door! Are you going to make me do it?"
Even though he didn't want to go, there was no choice now; he had to answer it. He thought to himself that whether he stuck his head out or pulled it back in, it would all end the same!
With that thought in mind, Liu Yuchuan felt a surge of determination and walked firmly toward the door.
During this process, the doorbell rang increasingly frantically. Liu Ru Yan was being supported by Mo Daowan as they made their way downstairs. Liu Yuchuan stood at the door and took a deep breath.
Turning back to smile at Liu Ru Yan, she suddenly felt a wave of unease. Just as she was about to tell him not to say anything, she heard a devilish notification in her ear.
"Yanyan, although I don't want to say this, I still have to let you know—get ready."
The more he said that, the more uneasy Liu Ru Yan felt; she instinctively wanted to run upstairs. Just then, Liu Yuchuan suddenly flung the door open and exclaimed at her.
"Yanyan! I didn't get a chance to tell you earlier—your mom and dad are here to see you! Aren't you happy?"
Liu Ru Yan's smile froze on her face when suddenly a cheerful voice came from behind her: "Yanyan! Daddy brought Mommy to see you! Aren't you excited?"
