Liu Ru Yan felt there was no way to pretend any longer. She stiffly turned around and greeted the two people behind her, "Hi, Dad, Mom, how are you?"
Her gaze sharpened as she noticed a shadow lurking at the door. Just as she was about to speak up, her father’s voice rang out.
"Liu Yuchuan, why has my daughter lost so much weight!"
Liu Yuchuan had initially intended to sneak away, but as he focused on the door, he was caught off guard by the sudden question. He froze in his tracks and turned to see the man glaring at him. Quickly, he chuckled nervously, "Brother, girls want to look slim; it's not like I'm doing it on purpose! She eats quite a lot!"
Zhu Chenfu grabbed Liu Wumai, who seemed ready to confront Liu Yuchuan, and smiled at him. "Liu Chuan, your brother means no harm. By the way, are you heading out?"
Zhu Chenfu looked at Liu Yuchuan with some confusion; he wondered what he was doing hunched over the door.
Liu Yuchuan shook his head. "Sister-in-law, I was planning to go for a stroll; the weather is quite nice."
After saying this, he fell silent, and for a moment, the room was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Mo Daowan glanced at the gloomy weather outside and questioned Liu Yuchuan's claim about the nice weather.
Liu Ru Yan couldn't help but laugh outright. Zhu Chenfu looked at Liu Yuchuan, wanting to say something but ultimately decided against it. After all, children have their own fortunes.
Hearing Liu Ru Yan's laughter brought Zhu Chenfu's concerned gaze back to her. He scanned her face and noticed she appeared somewhat pale. He let out a slight sigh of relief. "Xiao Yan, it's not that your mother doesn’t want you to live on your own; you see how frightening things have been lately."
The woman's voice was filled with care, and her eyes radiated love. Liu Ru Yan believed that if Mo Daowan weren't supporting her at that moment, her mother would have rushed over to hug her.
Liu Wumai had fewer reservations and stepped forward to give Liu Ru Yan—a bit awkwardly positioned on the stairs—a big bear hug. "My sweet daughter, you've suffered! It's all your uncle's fault!" He shot a glare at Liu Yuchuan, who dared not speak up.
The first to notice Mo Daowan was Liu Wumai; he glared suspiciously at the man standing next to his daughter with an inquisitive look.
"Who are you, sir?" Zhu Chenfu asked first. She noticed Liu Wumai's gaze and feared that if she didn’t inquire, he would.
Mo Daowan felt a bit flustered; no one had told him he would meet her parents so soon. Maintaining his noble demeanor, he replied, "Good day, ma'am. I am Mo Daowan, the eldest son of the Mo family. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Zhu Chenfu understood immediately; Liu Wumai's expression softened slightly—just slightly—but he still looked quite displeased.
How happy? A sudden exclamation drew everyone's attention back to Liu Ru Yan, and Mo Daowan also turned his gaze toward the charming girl beside him.
Liu Ru Yan was genuinely curious about whether their happiness was real or not! She recalled some argumentative phrases she had seen before and blurted them out.
Zhu Chenfu shot a playful glance at Liu Ru Yan, as if to say, "Why would you ask such a question?"
Liu Wumai was quite pleased; his daughter seemed to be innocent enough not to have ulterior motives, otherwise she wouldn't have asked such a question.
"Mr. Mo, I've heard so much about you," Liu Ru Yan remarked, realizing that her parents had distinct roles: Zhu Chenfu was in charge of the conversation while Liu Wumai maintained a silent but intimidating presence.
As long as he didn't speak, he didn't need to; his mere expression was enough to intimidate others.
Liu Yuchuan, feeling that he had no part in this, contemplated whether he should slip away since his niece was indeed quite impressive. Just as he shifted his feet, a chilling voice came from behind him, causing Liu Yuchuan to turn around in fright.
He found Liu Ru Yan had somehow crept up beside him without him noticing.
"Wait, weren't you just over there? Can you teleport?" Liu Yuchuan exclaimed in confusion.
Liu Ru Yan chuckled, knowing that Liu Yuchuan was trying to escape again; there was no way she would let him off that easily.
Meanwhile, Zhang Baofeng and Bai Juan were still watching the lively scene below with a hint of envy.
Bai Juan suddenly paused, "Do you think those two look familiar?"
She felt that Liu Ru Yan's parents resembled people she often saw in financial news.
Zhang Baofeng didn't pay much attention to financial news, so he didn't recognize them particularly well. He shook his head and asked Bai Juan, "Do you know them?"
Bai Juan indeed felt they looked familiar but realized she couldn't name them if pressed. It wasn't that she knew them; it was just a sense of familiarity. Although she shook her head, her mind kept racing to recall where she might have seen them before.
Zhang Baofeng didn't interrupt Bai Juan's thoughts; for him, if Bai Juan felt she had seen them before, then it must be true—he just didn’t know where. This piece of information still held some value.
Zhang Baofeng carefully looked at Liu Yuchuan and felt that Liu Yuchuan seemed even more familiar, at least more so than Liu Ru Yan's parents. Just as he was about to tell Bai Juan about this, he saw Bai Juan suddenly clap her hands and exclaim, "I remember where I've seen you!"
