"What do you mean? What hostages?" Qin Peng did not consider Li Meng to be a hostage and was unaware that someone had reported them for illegal detention.
Tang Mu Xuan took out his police badge and briefly showed it to Qin Peng before speaking, "Hello, we are from the Police Criminal Investigation Team. We received a report stating that you are suspected of illegal detention here."
"What did you say?" Qin Peng doubted he had heard correctly. How could anyone report them?
He wanted to argue with them when he heard Wang Yang from the courtyard say, "Let them in." Qin Peng thought to himself, "Let them in? They’re already inside."
Lin Fengmian felt a bit embarrassed but remained silent. Although he knew he was not following the rules, he still followed Tang Mu Xuan inside.
Captain Chen and the others stayed at the entrance of the courtyard.
After a portion of the group entered, Tang Mu Xuan squinted at Wang Yang. "Oh, Wang Zong, long time no see!" he said sarcastically.
Wang Yang also looked at Tang Mu Xuan, recognizing him as the one responsible for the previous Liu Ru Yan case.
"You again, Tang Mu Xuan!" Wang Yang thought bitterly. Why was this person always getting in his way? Did he have a grudge against him? Had he dug up his ancestral grave? Why was he staring at him like that?
As Tang Mu Xuan entered, he saw Wang Yang sitting right in the middle, with Li Meng and Tian Luo on either side. This harmonious scene made Tang Mu Xuan wonder if he had walked into the wrong place.
"Do we look like we are illegally detaining anyone here?" Wang Yang asked.
Tang Mu Xuan chuckled in anger, pressing his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "There may not be illegal detention, but how do you explain harboring suspects?"
Wang Yang immediately understood who Tang Mu Xuan was targeting, while Li Meng also felt puzzled—was Tian Luo part of the police? But Tian Luo hadn’t made eye contact with them at all.
Tian Luo’s actions might raise Li Meng's suspicions, but he didn’t care about that.
"Take him away," Tang Mu Xuan said just as Lin Fengmian stepped forward to take Li Meng away.
Wang Yang was so furious that he nearly lost his breath.
"Tang Mu Xuan, I advise you to think carefully."
"Wang Zong, what position are you advising me from?"
"Don't think you're the only one with backing; I have my own too."
Liu walked in and hesitated for a moment, unsure whether he should intervene in the standoff before him. However, recalling his responsibilities, he stepped forward.
Hearing the footsteps, everyone turned their heads. Tang Mu Xuan flashed a smile, looking provocatively at Wang Yang, as if to say: You’re finished.
Wang Yang narrowed his eyes at Liu, wary of his presence. Qin Peng recognized Liu and glanced between him and Tang Mu Xuan. He quietly leaned closer to Wang Yang and whispered, “This person is under Liu Yuchuan.”
That brief statement sent a wave of thoughts racing through Wang Yang’s mind. The Liu Family was cooperating with the police? That didn’t make sense; the Liu Family was not based domestically, so how could they be collaborating?
Wang Yang feared he hadn’t considered that it wasn’t cooperation at all, but rather that everything he had done was being used as evidence against him by the police. If it weren’t for Jiang Nan’s timely assistance, he probably wouldn’t even have the chance to sit here now.
The others were quite perceptive; Qin Peng’s voice hadn’t been particularly quiet. Liu raised an eyebrow and looked at Qin Peng, recalling that night at the venue. He smiled slightly and addressed Tang Mu Xuan, saying, “Tang Mu Xuan, I’ve brought you something. You left this behind in your haste earlier.”
With that, he handed over a wanted notice—something Liu Yuchuan had intended to give to Tang Mu Xuan but had forgotten just moments ago. The timing of this report was perfect; Tang Mu Xuan had felt somewhat uncertain before but now regained his confidence. Just when he had been thinking about it, here it was.
Liu Zong truly was a timely rain. If given the chance to speak, he would want to embrace him and give him a hearty kiss—this was just too good.
Wang Yang had completely given up on struggling but knew he wouldn’t be staying for long. Tian Luo and the others were taken to the police station; Li Meng hadn’t committed any crimes; she was merely caught up in the situation trying to save herself.
After questioning, she would naturally be released, and Tian Luo thoughtfully erased all traces of her presence. Qin Peng, Wang Yang, and the others spent a week in detention—a week long enough for Li Meng to leave.
“You really are a disappointment; just when you got out, you went right back in?” Jiang Nan felt a surge of anger at Wang Yang’s lack of resilience.
Wang Yang let out a cold laugh. "Is this my fault, Jiang Zong? Has Jiang Nan forgotten that he is not my subordinate?"
"If our collaboration continues to be unpleasant, I will reconsider my partners," Wang Yang added.
His words were not a threat to Jiang Nan; he knew well that Jiang Nan was not his subordinate, but rather a collaborator. To put it bluntly, it was his own abilities that allowed Jiang Nan to earn a living. Now that he had money, did he think he could stand up to him?
However, Wang Yang hoped Jiang Nan would not forget who had helped him rise in the first place.
Wang Yang's expression changed as he clearly recalled how he had been lifted up by Jiang Nan.
"Please calm down, sir. It's my fault this time; I take full responsibility. I'll go find her right now and bring her to you for your disposal," Jiang Zong said.
Wang Yang found the statement ambiguous. After hearing it, Jiang Nan shot him a disdainful glance; this man was clearly letting his desires cloud his judgment.
"No need for that. You should take some time to cool off," Jiang Nan replied dismissively. With that, he turned and left, no longer wishing to continue the conversation.
