"How can I not be here?" Xie Yichang immediately rebutted the absurd accusation. His words were sharp and direct, slicing through the silence in the air like a blade.
As soon as he spoke, he felt a cold gaze fall upon him, one that belonged to Mo Daowan. Her eyes held a subtle scrutiny, as if she were trying to see through his true thoughts.
Xie Yichang scoffed dismissively. It had already been an hour since Liu Ru Yan had regained consciousness, and he found it hard to believe that she hadn’t noticed him all this time. With his looks, he should have drawn attention long ago.
He speculated that Liu Ru Yan might be playing hard to get. This thought made him feel a bit smug, but when he met Mo Daowan's meaningful gaze again, he chose to remain silent.
At that moment, Lan Ruo Yi also recognized the familiar face; he was Mo Daowan's younger brother, her cousin! "A Yan, this is my cousin, Xie Yichang!" Lan Ruo Yi introduced him to Liu Ru Yan after recognizing him.
However, Xie Yichang did not seem grateful; instead, he responded with a mocking tone, "Oh, I really thought you wouldn’t recognize me. You’ve been so quiet all this time."
Lan Ruo Yi felt a bit awkward; she couldn’t exactly say that she had completely forgotten about him just moments ago, could she? Fortunately, Mo Daowan timely came to her rescue.
"Do you have the face to say that? Wasn’t it you who drove her away?" Mo Daowan's words made Xie Yichang instantly more obedient.
"Isn’t it just that I didn’t expect her to be so strong-willed now? Before, she was desperately trying to please others." Xie Yichang’s comment surprised Liu Ru Yan; she hadn’t realized there was such background information. Lan Ruo Yi felt somewhat embarrassed.
"That was all in the past; it has nothing to do with me." Lan Ruo Yi quickly clarified her stance.
At this moment, Liu Yuchuan finally remembered who the person in front of him was and recognized Lan Ruo Yi's true identity. "Oh, I got it! It's you! I was wondering who it was that liked that oddball Tang Huai Xu so much; turns out it’s you!"
Liu Yuchuan recalled seeing her at a party before and thought she seemed a bit silly at the time. She had closely followed that peculiar Tang Huai Xu without realizing his sarcastic undertones, happily trailing behind him.
Lan Ruo Yi widened her eyes in disbelief as she looked at Liu Yuchuan. She had initially thought Liu Yuchuan was just being sharp-tongued; she never expected he would have such a side to him.
Mo Daowan glanced at Xie Yichang and sneered, "What do you mean? If you weren't embarrassed, would you have so easily driven Yi Yi away?"
Xie Yichang's expression changed slightly but quickly returned to normal. He scoffed lightly, "I just wanted to teach her a lesson. Besides, hasn't she become stronger because of this?"
Liu Yuchuan shook his head. "Stronger? You didn't see how she acted in front of Tang Huai Xu; she looked like a tamed pet."
Lan Ruo Yi's face darkened. "Uncle, don't go too far. I admit I was a bit confused before, but that's all in the past. I've thought it through now; I won't let him use me again."
Liu Ru Yan looked at Lan Ruo Yi and said firmly, "A Yan, I believe in you. You're a smart girl; you won't be deceived by that kind of person again."
Xie Yichang sneered again. "Smart? If she were smart, she wouldn't have been fooled by someone like Tang Huai Xu."
Mo Daowan shot him a glare. "That's enough! Yi Yi is no longer the person she used to be; stop trying to provoke her with those words."
Liu Yuchuan chimed in, "Exactly! As her brother, you should care more about your sister instead of mocking her here."
Xie Yichang fell silent for a moment before saying lightly, "I just don't want to see her get hurt again. Someone like Tang Huai Xu isn't worth her efforts."
Lan Ruo Yi took a deep breath. "Brother, I know you're doing this for me. But I'm not the same person I used to be; I have my own judgments and choices now. Tang Huai Xu can no longer influence me."
"Tsk tsk tsk, we're done for. I'm going to film school; do you think you can keep up?" The room fell silent as Liu Ru Yan felt quite pleased with her earlier performance.
Lan Ruo Yi secretly rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile. "See? My brother is really interesting. I'm no longer who I used to be; now I'm Niu Hulu Lan Ruo Yi!"
The two then resumed their conversation as if no one else was around, creating an oddly quiet atmosphere around them as they automatically blocked out the surrounding noise.
"Niu Hulu Lan Ruo Yi," she said. "I am the iron-hearted Liu Xia Sui."
Xie Yichang didn't expect Lan Ruo Yi to so obediently say that; it seemed she had indeed become smarter.
"Brother has no other intentions; you are my sister Xie Yichang. You don't need to be so humble; do whatever you want!"
Xie Yichang started rambling again while Lan Ruo Yi remained unfazed.
"Mm-hmm, brother is only doing this for me." Liu Ru Yan pouted, feeling that Lan Ruo Yi's response was somewhat perfunctory.
