"What's wrong? Are you busy?" Mo Daowan's questioning voice made Liu Yuchuan start to doubt his profession.
"You didn't forget that Liu Ru Yan is still at home, did you?"
Liu Yuchuan felt that it shouldn't be a problem; after all, he had been considerate yesterday.
"Do I not know? It was her who called me to ask you out!"
"Oh, she's over ten now. Are you still watching her like a hawk? Is she a giant baby?"
"Hey, that's a really harsh thing to say. She's your sister!" Liu Yuchuan was displeased; even an older brother shouldn't speak about his sister like that. Besides, his sister's health had never been great.
"Does it matter?" Liu Yuchuan still felt uneasy. After he left, would Liu Ru Yan really be okay?
"Weren't you the one who told Liu to keep an eye on her?" Mo Daowan's words reminded Liu Yuchuan.
"Right, even if something happens, I don't need to worry; Liu is there."
Thinking of this, he cheerfully informed Liu Ru Yan that he would be heading out.
Liu Ru Yan feigned disinterest and urged him to return quickly.
Liu Yuchuan hurriedly packed up and walked towards the door while checking the address sent by Mo Daowan on his phone.
Once in the car, he told Liu, "Just stick close to the young lady when she goes out."
Liu nodded in agreement.
Liu Ru Yan watched Liu Yuchuan leave from the window and couldn't help but send a message to Mo Daowan.
"Liu Xia Sui: Thank you, Brother."
Mo Daowan shivered at the goosebumps that formed on his skin.
Liu Ru Yan quickly got up, tidied herself in the bathroom, and wrapped herself in her down jacket before heading out.
Although the cold wind chilled her for a moment, she picked up her phone and sent a message to Lan Ruo Yi.
"Liu Xia Sui: Yi Yi, what are you doing right now?"
"Lan Yue Liang: Asking pointless questions again?"
Lan Ruo Yi felt exhausted from her class and wondered if she really needed this job.
She opened her eyes wide; was she supposed to work until lights out?
Why was there so much work to do?
And why did someone from another department keep calling? Didn't they have a supervisor?
How were notifications supposed to be communicated? Were they just changing things without informing anyone anymore?
"Can this company survive?"
"???"
Liu Xia Sui sighed, "Oh dear, why are you so resentful? Have you lost your passion?"
Lan Yue Liang chuckled.
Liu Ru Yan could completely understand Lan Ruo Yi's feelings. When it came to work, she shared the sentiment: rather than complaining about herself, it was easier to bury someone else in blame. If it weren't for the desire to know the outcome, who would willingly go to work?
"I'm on my way," Liu Xia Sui said.
Lan Ruo Yi was shocked. "You really enjoy working that much?"
Lan Yue Liang teased, "You like work so much? Then I have some bad news for you."
Liu Ru Yan's steps began to slow down; she sensed that it wasn't good news.
"Can I handle it?" Liu Xia Sui asked.
"Hard to say," Lan Yue Liang replied.
"I suddenly feel like this job isn't a must after all." Liu Xia Sui immediately turned back without hesitation.
"Come on, really," Lan Yue Liang urged.
"No thanks, I feel unwell," Liu Xia Sui said.
"You should really come!" Lan Yue Liang insisted.
Seeing that Liu Ru Yan had no intention of coming, Lan Ruo Yi quickly made a phone call.
"Hello? What's up?"
Liu Ru Yan's voice sounded muffled, and Lan Ruo Yi hesitated, sensing something was off. "Are you really sick?"
Liu Ru Yan pulled over to the side of the road. "No, just tell me."
"Our work responsibilities have switched, and there have been some adjustments with the performance issues."
Upon hearing this, Liu Ru Yan had a premonition: "Oh? Is that good or bad?"
"Um, hard to say," Lan Ruo Yi admitted.
It was indeed difficult to articulate; how could one explain such a situation? Ultimately, it would depend on personal feelings: "I think it's bad, but I don't know about you."
Liu Ru Yan kicked a small stone by the roadside, one hand in her pocket and the other holding her phone.
"Let me take a look," she said.
"Sure, go ahead," came the reply.
Liu Ru Yan still decided to check with the company to see what kind of nonsense could make her feel uneasy about it.
Lan Ruo Yi looked at her pay stub and chuckled a couple of times. "Who would believe this is a salary? If I didn't know better, I'd think it was a refund from Pinduoduo."
"What’s this deduction? It’s all over the place. Oh, someone reported something, huh?" she laughed.
"Reported what?" Liu Ru Yan asked, clearly having received her pay stub as well. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "What is this? Is this really my salary?"
"Where's the saying that time is money? Boss, buy my hours already!" she exclaimed. "This is nothing like last time; has the economy really dropped this much? So this is what working feels like—exhausting and barely making any money."
"You’re here?" Lan Ruo Yi said, expressionless as Liu Ru Yan entered the office.
Liu Ru Yan mirrored her expressionlessness and quickly sat down. "I have a question: what’s up with this deduction?"
Lan Ruo Yi squinted at her pay stub, frowning slightly. "Tsk tsk tsk, it’s hard to say; I’m not sure."
Then Lan Ruo Yi paused her work and walked over to Ming Zhu. "Hey, Ming Zhu, what’s going on with this deduction?"
Ming Zhu frowned at her own pay stub, looking puzzled until she heard Lan Ruo Yi's voice. Having seen everyone’s pay stubs, she understood what was being asked.
"The conditions have changed; didn’t you know? If you don’t meet the requirements, there will be deductions."
