"What kind of look is that?" Liu Yuchuan asked Mo Daowan, noticing the disdainful expression on his face.
Mo Daowan quickly reined in his gaze. "It's nothing. Just hurry up and get ready."
He then turned and went back to his room to change clothes before heading downstairs to prepare breakfast.
Zhang Ayi didn't come today; yesterday, he had taken Xiao Xiao and Zhang Ayi to Liu Yi's place, and since Auntie was looking for them, he had to manage by himself.
"A Yan, how are you feeling today?" Lan Ruo Yi asked, having woken up unusually early.
To be precise, she hadn’t really slept much; her mind was a chaotic mess. She felt scared. She still hadn’t figured out what was going on, and Liu Ru Yan had suddenly lost her memory for a moment.
Her thoughts were too jumbled. Fortunately, Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi had not slept together last night, which was rare. They both wanted some time to think things through, so they agreed to sleep apart for the night.
"Yi Yi, Xiao Yan, it's time for breakfast!" Mo Daowan called from downstairs. He had been done for a while now, but Liu Yuchuan still hadn't come down.
"Coming!" The two responded and prepared to head downstairs when they heard another voice from below.
"Uncle is coming down for breakfast."
Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi exchanged glances. "Huh? Uncle isn’t down yet? That’s not like him."
In an instant, they both thought of a possibility: "Could he be sick?"
"That shouldn't be the case; he seems pretty sturdy."
"Alright," Liu Ru Yan took on the task herself since it wouldn’t be appropriate for Lan Ruo Yi to check on her uncle.
"Uncle, are you awake?" Liu Ru Yan stood at the crack of Liu Yuchuan's door.
She started with the most annoying tone she could muster, waiting for Liu Yuchuan's response.
"I'm awake." Liu Yuchuan opened the door and stepped out.
At the entrance, Liu Ru Yan was scrutinized from head to toe, but nothing seemed different about her.
"What’s wrong?" Liu Ru Yan quickly looked down at her outfit, wondering if there was anything amiss. It seemed quite appropriate.
"Nothing, let’s go," Liu Yuchuan replied without further explanation and headed downstairs.
"Are you out of your mind?" Liu Ru Yan muttered under her breath, following Liu Yuchuan with her shoulders slumped.
She looked quite pitiful.
"What happened?" Lan Ruo Yi asked in surprise, glancing at the once spirited Liu Ru Yan. Had she changed so much after just one trip?
"It’s nothing, really," Liu Ru Yan said, her head and shoulders drooping, looking rather forlorn.
"Are you sick?" Liu Yuchuan remarked, not expecting her to be so dramatic.
Without waiting for Liu Ru Yan's response, he continued, "You really are sick. Sorry, I forgot."
"How can you talk like that?" Liu Ru Yan retorted, feeling like a small dog ready to bark back.
Lan Ruo Yi pressed her down gently and affectionately patted her head. "Sweetheart, let’s not argue. We need to eat first; you still have to see a doctor later."
"Isn’t it you who’s sick?" Liu Ru Yan shot back.
Liu Yuchuan gave her a look that said he wasn’t wrong about her condition.
With no retort left, Liu Ru Yan could only sit down dejectedly, mentally kicking herself for speaking up earlier. She wished she could just seal her lips shut.
"Alright, stop looking around. How do you feel?" Liu Yuchuan took on the role of a concerned uncle, focusing on her expression.
"I don’t feel anything special; just want to take another look," Liu Ru Yan replied, ultimately not saying much about Liu Yuchuan's concern.
Deep down, she understood that Liu Yuchuan wasn’t Lan Ruo Yi; he was merely a family member from her past life—not truly hers. She could try to accept it but didn’t know when she would truly leave this behind.
Eventually, they would leave this place; saying so much only added to their worries.
After finishing their meal, a few of them returned to their rooms to tidy up. Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi took a leave of absence for Lin Su.
"Su Jie, A Yan isn't feeling well today. We called a doctor to come to the house, so we need to take a day off," Lan Yue Liang explained.
Lin Su first glanced at her colleagues upon receiving the news, then organized her thoughts and looked at Wang Liling. "Ling Jie, what kind of family do Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi come from?"
There was still something unsaid; why was there a doctor coming to their home? Oh, just a young lady. Wang Liling remained calm about it all.
What could be more shocking than seeing it with one's own eyes? Zhang Baofeng and Juan nodded vigorously in agreement. They felt unworthy compared to them, but what did that matter?
Lin Su's mind was racing as she pondered how to respond. "Alright, take care and rest well," she finally said.
Lan Ruo Yi and Liu Ru Yan exchanged a few words before sitting on the sofa, engrossed in their phones. At that moment, Lan Ruo Yi felt a mix of emotions—worried yet anxious about what they might discover or fail to see.
"The doctor is here; you can come down now," Liu Yuchuan called from the staircase, prompting Lan Ruo Yi and Liu Ru Yan to sit up immediately. Facing the doctor made Lan Ruo Yi feel somewhat tense.
Liu Ru Yan was different; she often chatted with doctors, so she lazily made her way down the stairs.
"Here we go," she said with a hint of nonchalance in her voice.
She sounded drained of energy as she reached the bottom of the stairs and stopped moving. Who could tell her why Xie Yichang was here?
