The expressions of the others suddenly turned tense.
"Why are you all so nervous? I'm not as rude as you," Liu Ru Yan chuckled, surprised to find herself such a threat to them. It was strange; she felt relaxed, perhaps because seeing others so anxious made her feel at ease.
Among the group of black-clad figures, one man stared intently at the two, his eyes filled with mockery. "Hey, haven't you noticed that Tian Luo is missing?"
Lan Ruo Yi, with her keen observation skills, was somewhat surprised that neither Tian Luo nor Lin Su had shown up.
"This is none of your concern," Wang Yang's expression darkened. These two were incredibly reckless, still thinking about other matters at a time like this.
"Ha, I mean no harm. Just wondering if you have any undercover agents among you," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. It was almost amusing how clear their intentions were, their eyes betraying their thoughts.
Wang Yang had lost interest in playing games with them and waved his hand for the black-clad figures to move forward.
As the black-clad figures advanced, Lan Ruo Yi slowly raised her hand amidst the gazes of the crowd and murmured something under her breath.
Time seemed to freeze.
Before the two could breathe a sigh of relief, they realized that the black-clad figures were completely unaffected. Shocked, they watched as the group approached them. Liu Ru Yan couldn't afford to rest any longer; she kicked one person away with a swift motion.
Grabbing Lan Ruo Yi, she attempted to flee, but at that moment, the black-clad figures formed a line, parting to reveal a man in their midst. He appeared taller and more robust than the others.
He stepped forward and raised his hand to halt their movements. "I told you both that you couldn't stay."
Yet they didn't believe him and insisted on handling things personally.
"Even without your memories, you're still quite adept at this, aren't you?"
Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi exchanged a glance and lowered their hands, staring intently at the man before them.
"What do you mean by that? Did we know each other before? What is this ability you speak of?"
"You don't need to know so much. Just take them away!"
Immediately, the men in black drew their guns, weapons that were anything but cold. Liu Ru Yan sensed that today would not end well; after all, it was at this very moment in her past life that she had been ambushed.
Barely escaping with her life, she had lived in a state of constant fear.
The men in black raised their guns and began firing at the two of them. Liu Ru Yan grabbed Lan Ruo Yi and they dodged together. Their bodies moved with agility, like two nimble sprites dancing in the night. However, only by getting closer could one truly appreciate the danger they were in.
The men in black occasionally fired additional shots, and it was strange that despite the loud noise, no one from the alley came out to investigate.
Lan Ruo Yi followed closely behind Liu Ru Yan, alerting her to who would strike next. Liu Ru Yan listened to Lan Ruo Yi's voice as she dodged.
"Be careful of that one."
Tap, tap, tap.
Liu Ru Yan leaped and crouched in the open courtyard, occasionally hearing the sounds of fists striking flesh and her own muffled grunts.
One of the men in black frowned, cursing under his breath. No one understood this person's abilities better than he did.
Thinking this, he continued speaking: "Do you think that's how Zhang Na died?"
"What do you mean?" Liu Ru Yan had just dodged a bullet and kicked one man down when she heard this.
Sweat soaked through her clothes; she had already removed her down jacket and was now only wearing a sweatshirt and jeans, looking rather disheveled.
Suddenly, she saw a bullet coming straight at her. She hurriedly bent down to dodge but couldn't escape it. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lan Ruo Yi lunging toward her.
Lan Ruo Yi gasped in horror as she rushed forward to block the bullet. Liu Ru Yan instinctively pulled Lan Ruo Yi back.
There was a muffled grunt followed by the sickening sound of flesh being pierced. Despite trying to evade it, Lan Ruo Yi was shot in the shoulder, blood gushing out instantly.
Liu Ru Yan raised her eyes filled with regret to look at the man in the center, her gaze burning with hatred.
She didn't know whether to hate herself for not being able to save her or to despise that despicable man.
The man smirked with a hint of mockery: "What a deep sisterly bond you have."
Lan Ruo Yi looked at Liu Ru Yan, wanting to step forward and grab her. She felt the blood on her shoulder and, under the puzzled gazes of the crowd, drew a pattern with it.
The men in black narrowed their eyes, raising their hands and firing wildly. Unfortunately, Liu Ru Yan was caught in the crossfire and was hit several times. By the time Lan Ruo Yi finished drawing, she had already lost consciousness.
Once the pattern was completed, a blinding light descended from above, enveloping their broken bodies. When the light faded, the men in black were rendered immobile.
Wang Yang and the others regained consciousness and were about to rush over to grab the two when they heard the sound of police sirens outside, causing them to flee in panic.
In a corner, one man in black stood with a gun, watching them. Liu Ru Yan half-held the unconscious Lan Ruo Yi, keeping a wary eye on him. The man made no move; he simply stared at them, giving off an impression of being harmless.
Liu Ru Yan knew she couldn't let her guard down completely; both of them were bleeding profusely from their wounds. Just as the door burst open, the man in black vanished. It was only when Liu Ru Yan saw familiar faces that she finally relaxed her vigilance and slowly lay back down.
