No matter how big a mistake my son made, as long as he acted cute, he could usually get away with it. This time, however, I didn’t let him have his way. I blocked his path and looked at him coldly.
My son stood there in shock, staring at me blankly. “Mom, what’s wrong? You used to love me the most. Now that I’m feeling wronged, you won’t help me? You won’t even give me a hug?”
I sighed. “You’ve grown up. You have your own opinions now; you don’t need my hugs anymore.”
He looked at me with a hurt expression. “Mom, how can you say that? Don’t you care about me anymore?”
I replied indifferently, “You’re married now; you’re not a child. It’s normal for me not to dote on you. If you think being with Lin Jiao makes you happy, then enduring some grievances is part of that happiness.”
“I told you before that whatever marriage you choose, no matter how hard it is, you have to bear it yourself.”
“What’s the point of coming to me to complain now?”
His tears fell even more heavily.
With a choked voice, he said, “Mom, I regret it. Mom, I was wrong. Please help me, okay? Can you ask my aunt to help find a job for Lin Jiao’s brother? That way, he won’t be in a bad mood and won’t hit me anymore. His mom won’t scold me either.”
I snorted coldly. “So Lin Jiao’s brother hits you because he’s in a bad mood? And Lin Jiao doesn’t care? Then he’s not worth spending your life with. If he doesn’t have a job, let him find one himself. I won’t support someone who is ungrateful.”
His tears streamed down even more.
He stood there frozen, as if he had received a huge blow.
With tears pouring down his face, he cried out, “Mom, how can you do this? Do you really not want me anymore?”
I snorted again. “I’m going back with your aunt. From now on, don’t come looking for me; I’ve severed ties with you. Whether your life is good or bad from now on doesn’t concern me.”
I took my sister’s hand and went into the room, shutting my son outside.
He begged continuously at the door.
I changed my shoes and lay down on the sofa while turning on the TV and eating fruit.
Hearing my son’s pleas, my sister couldn’t help but ask me, “Are you really going to ignore him? After all, he is your own child!”
I looked at her seriously. “Putting aside the the Lin Family ’s manipulation, his actions are not just influenced by them; perhaps he simply lacks empathy and doesn’t care about our well-being!”
My sister sighed. “Then let’s see if he truly realizes his mistakes! If he continues like this, then let him be.”
Just then, Lin Jiao arrived with my son in tow.
Her son looked so thin and haggard, a stark contrast to the handsome and carefree young man he used to be.
Seeing her son in such a state, Sister felt a pang of heartache. "Le An, you've suffered," she said softly. She reached out to embrace him, but I stopped her.
I looked at them coldly. "What are you doing here?"
Lin Jiao replied defiantly, "My mom sent me to ask you to help my brother find a job. Who else would you help if not your own son?"
My sister was so infuriated by her shamelessness that her breathing became heavy. She pointed toward the door. "Get out! You’re not welcome here."
Lin Jiao shot back angrily, "Are you even human? Le An respects you like a mother! I might even be pregnant with his child, and yet you treat us like this—how can you call yourself human?"
I snorted dismissively. "If you want a mother, go find yours. There’s no one’s mother here. If you don’t leave, I’ll call the police."
