“Hey, don’t cry, don’t cry.” A Lian hurriedly wiped away Fellow’s tears and quickly pulled out a piece of Compressed Biscuit. “Here, here, sister has something tasty for you.” 0

As she unwrapped it and handed it to Fellow, she even showed her how to hold the Compressed Biscuit with her little hands and bring it to her mouth. Compared to the hard apple, this compressed apple was much more delicious, and whether licked with her tongue or bitten into, it was filled with sweet nourishment. 0

“Take your time eating, take your time. Uncle and Auntie have plenty more here. Don’t cry anymore; we’ll take you to find your daddy and mommy…” 0

“Daddy… Mommy…” 0

The baby, almost in a dreamlike state, fell asleep in the captain’s arms. 0

“Let’s go; we still have a long way to our destination.” 0

With that, the group began to move toward the ruined city. From a high vantage point, one could see the wreckage of two Flying Ships burning amidst the ruins just a few dozen meters away. Surrounding them lay a chaotic array of monster corpses scattered on the ground, including one that was as large as a hill. The number of these beasts was at least in the hundreds, with countless others of various kinds—some flying, some crawling on the ground, and others just emerging from the sea, all with fierce and savage appearances. It was clear that they had engaged in a fierce battle with this group, resulting in a decisive victory for humanity. 0

Steel Fortress Mo Bei Island, part of the Free Federation, is located at the northern edge of Horned Island by the Dead Sea. It is one of the few remaining mid-sized human islands in the ocean's Fallen Zone. The city’s population once reached hundreds of thousands, but now only a handful of ordinary citizens can be found. 0

The heavy rain had been falling for nearly four hours without any sign of stopping. 0

In this jungle of steel where buildings lay collapsed and devastation reigned, an Armed Team of just over thirty people moved swiftly through the ruins. 0

The man at the front suddenly stopped. He took off his rain hood and looked up at the darkening sky; night was approaching, and traveling in this rain-soaked night was not a good choice for his weary team. 0

He pointed to a tall abandoned building and said, “Let’s set up camp there tonight.” 0

The crackling fire made a soft popping sound. 0

Suspended over the flames was a military iron box, the contents inside bubbling with heat and releasing a fragrant aroma of rice porridge. 0

Around the fire sat several people, including A Lian. Beside her, a baby wrapped in a military blanket was sound asleep. A scruffy-looking man smiled at the sleeping infant before continuing to stir with a spoon in the meal box. 0

"Captain, we’ll be at the front lines tomorrow. We can’t keep bringing this fellow along, can we?" A Lian said, standing with her hands on her hips beside the fire. She was also eyeing the baby curled up in the blanket. 0

The captain remained silent, contemplating the issue. He looked up towards the outer layer of the building; in the distance, he could already see the outline of the sea. They could faintly hear the sound of waves crashing. 0

To avoid nighttime ambushes, they had chosen a relatively sturdy building with a wide view. 0

"Captain!" A Lian called out again, "Are you even listening to me?" 0

"Yes, yes," the captain replied nonchalantly, waving his hand. "If it comes to it, I’ll send you to take him back to the safe zone." 0

"No way! Without me, you’ll just lead the team into danger again. If it weren’t for your decision to come here, our Flying Ship wouldn’t have encountered those monsters’ ambush!" A Lian complained, shaking her fist. 0

"We can’t just ignore innocent lives when we see them in danger, can we? That’s not how our Special Operations Team operates," the captain explained. 0

"Fine, since we’re heading to the front lines tomorrow anyway, let this fellow return with the injured on a medical flying ship," A Lian conceded. She hoped that there would still be room for this fellow on the medical Flying Ship making trips back and forth from the battlefield, but she worried about potential monster attacks along the way. 0

At that moment, a bald man dressed in uniform with sharp eyebrows approached to report. 0

“Captain, we just received urgent intelligence through the communication channel. The Roaring Squad has arrived at the front lines ahead of schedule, but Ban Lu has suffered a surprise attack from the beasts and incurred heavy losses,” said the bald man as he handed the information to the captain. 0

“Hmm.” The captain took it with a serious expression, glanced at it briefly, then tossed it into the fire without making any comments. 0

“All regular Main Force Corps have been deployed around Dragon Tooth Island and its surrounding waters, along with our Reaper, Roar, Death Scythe, and God—four Trump Card level Lighthouse Guards. This scale of deployment is truly unprecedented,” A Lian remarked, counting on his fingers in astonishment. 0

“Yes, Captain. The upgrade of defenses at Dragon Tooth Island’s lighthouse seems to have drawn excessive attention from the upper echelons of the Free Federation,” the bald man interjected curiously. 0

“The Black Tide is coming…” the captain said calmly. 0

This statement instantly shocked both A Lian and the bald man. 0

“Captain, are you implying…” The bald man’s expression turned anxious. 0

“The Black Tide,” A Lian said darkly beside him. 0

For a moment, the three fell into their own thoughts. 0

“Our mission is to escort that special item to the lighthouse at Dragon Tooth Island.” 0

Meanwhile, their comrades nearby were oblivious to the conversation among the three. Instead, they gathered in small groups around the campfire, warming their clothes. Some laughed and chatted about mundane matters while sipping hot drinks or eating food, while others were already weary and had settled down in a corner with blankets to rest. 0

Of course, there were also guards stationed outside the building. 0

Two sentinels in raincoats scanned the quiet ruins around them. The only sound was that of raindrops falling. They moved closer together to smoke and discuss recent developments. 0

“Hey, did you hear? The civilians in this war zone have all evacuated.” 0

“There are monsters everywhere on the landing islands. Those civilians who didn’t leave have probably been eaten by the beasts. Didn’t you see the devastated state of the Iron Fortress? I heard that several units of the Coast Legion stationed here have been wiped out.” 0

“Really? Does that mean we’re in danger?” 0

“Don’t worry, don’t worry. The higher-ups of the Free Federation have dispatched several regular Trump Card Main Force Corps to come here and establish a Coastal Defense Line around Dragon Tooth Island. A large number of monsters should be cleared out by now.” 0

“Sigh, if it weren’t for the fact that this escort mission can earn us a lot of military merit rewards, I would have submitted my retirement application to the captain.” 0

“Haha, remember your wife is about to give birth. Make sure to treat us to drinks when you get back!” 0

“Definitely, definitely…” 0

Before he could finish his sentence, his smiling comrade suddenly froze. He saw a black spike slowly protruding from his friend’s forehead, and then that familiar face and body were instantly pierced through by the black spike, collapsing like mush! 0
