Xie Yuanbai and the others suddenly looked up at the object that had been thrown. The Black Dog swiftly drew his shotgun and aimed, bang!
Boom!
A dazzling explosion erupted above their heads, and in an instant, the shockwave mixed with shrapnel and splattered plasma struck all of them.
The Black Dog looked up into the air, dropped his gun, and in agony, covered his eyes with both hands as he knelt on the ground, howling.
Xie Yuanbai, Da Shuo, and Hong Xin all experienced a ringing in their ears, their eyes blinded for a brief moment. The intense light from the flashbang could cause temporary blindness, especially since Lu Fei Fan had used three of them!
The Black Dog's shot was just as he expected; if it wasn't him, it would be Xie Yuanbai.
Seizing this fleeting opportunity, Lu Fei Fan, who had been keeping his head down, darted forward like a cheetah targeting its prey. His goal was the military backpack that Xie Yuanbai had placed beside him.
With their senses overwhelmed by the explosion, Xie Yuanbai and the others were momentarily stunned. When they regained their composure, they saw a figure sprinting away at a speed of one hundred twenty yards per second—like a lone wolf.
"Damn it!" Xie Yuanbai shouted as he hurled his long knife towards Lu Fei Fan's back!
The curved blade infused with Pulse Energy spun through the air like a gust of wind. The sound of it slicing through the air indicated its formidable power. As Lu Fei Fan ran, he sensed the cold light approaching rapidly toward his back!
Xie Yuanbai was confident in his thrown knife; the Pulse Energy he infused had completely locked onto this damned target attacking him. It would definitely make Lu Fei Fan pay a price—even if it only delayed him for a few seconds. He was frantically channeling his Pulse Breathing Technique to elevate his Pulse Energy layer by layer, causing his body to emit a faint white glow that dispelled the negative effects from the earlier explosion.
However, something unexpected happened. As Lu Fei Fan sprinted, he sensed danger behind him. He suddenly turned around and swung his Fang Tooth Battle Blade, sweeping through the air like a lightning bolt to intercept the spinning knife.
Clang!
The knife was knocked aside with a whoosh and embedded itself into a tree.
Lu Fei Fan did not dare to pause; he continued to turn and flee. But that brief moment when he swung his blade to block the knife had already allowed another figure to surge forward—Da Shuo!
The dual blades in Da Shuo's hands shimmered with a faint energy glow as they sliced through the air, exuding an intimidating presence.
Clang!
Lu Fei Fan turned and swung his fang-like weapon, colliding forcefully with his opponent's strike. The tremendous recoil surged through his arm, almost causing a sharp pain in his chest. However, the impact of his blade infused with Pulse Energy sent Da Shuo staggering back several steps.
Before Da Shuo could react, Lu Fei Fan had already dashed into the forest.
"Trying to escape?" Da Shuo quickly pursued.
By the time Da Shuo entered the woods after Lu Fei Fan, Xie Yuanbai's senses had finally returned to normal. He could clearly hear the black dog's agonized howls.
"Ah! My eyes! I can't see! I can't see anything..." The black dog clutched at his eyes, writhing in pain as he knelt on the ground, howling incessantly.
"Make him quiet," Xie Yuanbai said coldly, casting a glance at the black dog before turning to Hong Xin.
"Injuries come at a cost," Hong Xin replied nonchalantly, glancing at her companion as if he were a stranger.
"Hmph, you won't get any money if we can't retrieve the item!" Xie Yuanbai shot back before ignoring both Hong Xin and the black dog, quickly picking up his weapons and equipment as he made his way into the forest.
The black dog continued to howl for a while longer, tears streaming down his face, clearly suffering from Flashbang Syndrome. Hong Xin frowned and pulled a bundle of bandages from her backpack to wrap around his eyes.
Then she placed her hands over the black dog's eyes, channeling a faint Pulse Energy through her palms. His eyes rolled back as if covered by a layer of special energy, and soon enough, he returned to normal.
"Alright, stop crying. You won't go blind. Once this is over and we get out of here, you should be fine after treatment at the Monster Base's Battlefield Hospital," she diagnosed before helping him to his feet.
Upon hearing this reassurance, the black dog calmed down considerably. His keen nose sniffed the air. "It's that person; I can smell him."
"Who?" Hong Xin asked.
"The person who was hit by Xie Yuanbai with the Energy Sniper Rifle in the woods!" Xie Yuanbai stated confidently.
"Oh?" Hong Xin replied, somewhat surprised. "He survived a shot?"
"Probably wearing a Tactical Armor Vest..." Black Dog analyzed, then chuckled self-deprecatingly. "It really fits the ancient saying, 'The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.'"
"He won't escape," Hong Xin said, channeling her psychic powers. Her eyes glazed over with a faint white Pulse Energy as her perception began to expand. She sensed a figure several hundred meters away, agilely darting through the forest like a beast, with her teammate Da Shuo in pursuit.
At that moment, Lu Fei Fan was navigating through a grove of dead trees, surrounded by swamps and fallen leaves. One misstep could lead him into the mire, and with pursuers behind him, that young man was not lagging behind.
Da Shuo's long-bladed gun occasionally unleashed bursts of Energy Gun fire. This gunfire was purely infused with Pulse Energy from within his body, striking forward with full force, its power rivaling that of a Sniper Rifle.
Bang!
Another sharp shot struck the tree ahead, creating a crater the size of a bowl and emitting wisps of black smoke—a display of terrifying lethality.
Lu Fei Fan had no leisure to admire the power of the Pulse Energy Gun; running for his life was his only advantage. From their earlier clash, he could tell that Da Shuo's Pulse Energy was clearly stronger than his own, and facing him head-on would put him at a disadvantage.
Thus, he quickly employed the Nine Palace Steps technique, his movements becoming erratic yet fluid as he traversed through the forest. He deftly evaded Da Shuo's gunfire with remarkable effectiveness.
"Hmm? That movement technique..." Da Shuo noticed the increasing distance between himself and Lu Fei Fan, along with that peculiar style.
Just as he intended to chase after him, Lu Fei Fan threw something back toward him.
He halted again, watching as the object landed on the ground, his eyes widening in shock!
He suddenly dove to the ground!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The thunderous explosion erupted not far from him, sending shockwaves through the air and scattering shrapnel that whizzed through the air, snapping branches and foliage in the desolate forest.
Da Shuo shook his head. By the time he clumsily got back on his feet, Lu Fei Fan had already vanished without a trace, and Xie Yuanbai was quickly catching up from behind.
"Where is he?" Xie Yuanbai stared into the thick miasma ahead. The miasma in this forest severely obstructed their vision. If it weren't for the black dog being blind, his sense of smell would have been a formidable asset in locating their opponent amidst the miasma.
"Chase!" Xie Yuanbai gritted his teeth and chose to move forward.
Da Shuo intended to offer a warning, but before he could say anything, Xie Yuanbai kicked something while running. In an instant, he pushed his body to its limits, executing an extreme evasive maneuver, but before he could land—
Boom!
A violent shockwave and fireball erupted from the ground littered with dead leaves, hurling Xie Yuanbai through the air.
After the explosion subsided, Xie Yuanbai coughed a few times and got back up. His shoulder and body were embedded with several pieces of shrapnel. Fortunately, he had activated his Pulse Energy in time to form a shield; even though it hadn’t fully materialized, it absorbed most of the impact.
Still dazed from the sudden blast, he gritted his teeth and pulled out all the shrapnel embedded in him. With a furious roar, he turned and charged into the forest.
Gunfire echoed continuously through the trees as Da Shuo followed closely behind.
Lu Fei Fan was acutely aware that another person was pursuing him. During his evasive maneuvers, he had even set up a few landmines along his path—both pressure-activated and touch-sensitive—making them easy to deploy.
He knew these landmines wouldn’t completely incapacitate a practitioner of Pulse Energy, but they would buy him some time to escape.
Thus, he left behind various traps as he fled. Initially, Xie Yuanbai pursued quickly, but after several explosions that took a toll on him, he found himself in a precarious situation and had no choice but to team up with Da Shuo. The two of them chased while avoiding the hidden mines.
The distance between them fluctuated silently; sometimes closing in and sometimes widening, creating a stalemate. Lu Fei Fan had carefully considered his route; it would take him nearly several dozen kilometers to reach the nearest exit. This path was where their battle unfolded.
Having been part of Special Forces in his previous life, Lu Fei Fan was quite familiar with jungle warfare. In contrast, Xie Yuanbai and Da Shuo relied on their brute force in combat during their pursuit. Regardless of what traps Lu Fei Fan set up, they gradually lost their advantage in distance. As he approached the exit, only a few kilometers remained.
The inevitable confrontation erupted, and Lu Fei Fan found himself at a disadvantage in the fight against Xie Yuanbai and Da Shuo. Xie Yuanbai's Jifeng Blade and Da Shuo's spear were both capable of suppressing him.
Lu Fei Fan had no choice but to engage in a life-or-death struggle, trading blows with his opponents. Blood sprayed from his wounds, splattering onto the ground. His opponents were taken aback by Lu Fei Fan's reckless determination. After a fierce close-quarters battle, Lu Fei Fan sustained several knife wounds from Xie Yuanbai's Jifeng Blade, while Xie Yuanbai also received multiple cuts to his thigh, and Da Shuo was significantly injured from exchanging blows with Lu Fei Fan.
Lu Fei Fan's Military Backpack had run out of Rescue Serum. Blood poured from his wounds as he ran, spreading along the path. Although none of the injuries were life-threatening, they were taking a toll on his consciousness and stamina.
He had exhausted all his trump cards, even the large-caliber bullets from his Lie Hound were spent. The price was that Da Shuo had taken a bullet, leaving only Xie Yuanbai able to keep pace with him.
Suddenly, he stumbled; a sharp pain shot through his ankle. Looking down, he saw that a Tiger Tooth Trap had caught his foot among the pile of leaves!
This was dire. He felt that his bones were intact, but blood was gushing from his foot wrapped in Military Boots. He struggled to pry open the trap with his teeth and hands, finally freeing his leg.
The pain nearly overwhelmed his senses as he gritted his teeth and hopped away from the scene. Moments later, Xie Yuanbai and the injured Da Shuo arrived.
The two discovered the bloody Tiger Tooth Trap on the ground.
"It seems he won't get far," Xie Yuanbai said with a mocking smile. He scanned the forest as dawn approached. Once the light broke, this fellow who dared to snatch away his prey would learn what it meant to be overconfident!
