A man leaned on a branch he had broken off from a tree, using it as a cane, for he had completely lost his sight. However, his sense of smell remained intact. He sniffed the air with his dark gray nose and detected the metallic scent of blood, confirming that the person lying on the ground before him was the one who had stolen the Poison Nest Spider Emperor Heart and had also blinded him.
His eyes were temporarily bound, and beside him stood a woman—Hong Xin, the Mind Weaver. Lu Fei Fan had just been tossed around by an invisible force, likely orchestrated by her.
She stood there, coldly observing Lu Fei Fan, even playfully tossing her hair as if trying to entice him. Yet, Lu Fei Fan's icy gaze left her feeling foolish.
Xie Yuanbai approached Lu Fei Fan, twisted his neck, then crouched down, tapping a dagger against Lu Fei Fan's cheek with a playful smirk. "Why aren’t you running?" he taunted.
Then he turned and picked up a backpack before returning to Lu Fei Fan. Meanwhile, Lu Fei Fan quietly activated the Pulse Breathing Technique within him. Waves of Pulse Energy surged into his chest, gathering in his fists like meteorite projectiles as he launched them directly at Da Shuo's feet.
Da Shuo suddenly lifted his foot as if kicking against a steel plate. The impact echoed with a resounding bang, reminiscent of two incredibly hard objects colliding, making one realize just how terrifying the force of their clash was.
Da Shuo intended to stomp down again, but Lu Fei Fan rolled away. As he half-stood up, his fists—charged with formidable Pulse Energy—smashed toward Da Shuo like shooting stars.
Da Shuo's eyes widened; moments ago, he thought this Fellow’s Pulse Energy was depleted. How could he suddenly retaliate?
In an instant, he dared not hesitate. He channeled all his strength into his legs, unleashing a whip-like kick that swept through the air like a Thousand Thunderbolts!
Bang!
Another sound erupted as if two steel blocks collided violently. The Pulse Energy from their punch and kick clashed and sent shockwaves that distorted the air for a brief moment.
Da Shuo retracted his leg and staggered back several steps before regaining his balance. Lu Fei Fan disregarded the numbness in his arms and turned to flee in another direction.
"Thinking of escaping?" Xie Yuanbai brandished a long knife, summoning a powerful Energy Current that coalesced in the air like a pure white energy fist!
As Lu Fei Fan ran, he suddenly sensed an immense danger behind him. With a roar, he turned and crossed his fists in front of him, conjuring a Force Field Shield made of Pulse Energy that abruptly blocked his path.
Clang!
The sound echoed like a resounding bell.
Before Lu Fei Fan, the energy shield shattered into pieces, and the long blade, which contained Xie Yuanbai's full power, was sent flying, landing haphazardly in a nearby patch of ground.
Xie Yuanbai was slightly surprised that his full-force throw had been blocked. It was unexpected; after all, he had seen Pulse Energy Shields before, but those were abilities possessed only by Fusers with a solid foundation in Pulse Energy cultivation.
No wonder the Chairperson of the Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce held this young man in such high regard and was eager to sign him.
Thinking of this, Xie Yuanbai felt a surge of frustration.
"Hong Xin, capture him!" Xie Yuanbai commanded.
"Alright," Hong Xin shrugged without hesitation. A peculiar wave of Pulse Energy surged from her body, and tendrils resembling tentacles emerged from behind her, ensnaring Lu Fei Fan's limbs as he struggled to regain his footing.
Of course, Lu Fei Fan fought back with his own Pulse Energy, but as Hong Xin's eyelids glazed over with a white film, she smiled slightly. The fine strands suddenly tore through Lu Fei Fan's nascent Pulse Energy field, lifting him up and pinning him in mid-air like a starfish.
Lu Fei Fan felt as if his wrists and ankles were bound tightly by steel bands. What sent shivers down his spine was the realization that a mental force had seized control of his limbs. The red strands he saw were the tangible manifestation of Hong Xin's Pulse Energy.
Was this what it meant to be a Mind Weaver? To manipulate objects from afar and capture Lu Fei Fan in an instant? Even when he exerted enough strength to crush several steel plates, he could not shake off the feeling of being restrained.
"Stop struggling. The more you resist, the stronger my mental control will become," Hong Xin warned.
But Lu Fei Fan did not believe her. He continued to exert force—doubling it, tripling it—until his limbs felt as if they were weighed down by lead.
This caused shock among Hong Xin, Xie Yuanbai, and Da Shuo. Even the black dog looked surprised at the sound; never had anyone managed to struggle under Hong Xin's mental control—this person was the first!
"I have to admit, you are quite surprising," Hong Xin said seriously. Then, with a hum, an invisible wave swept through the air. An intangible force strengthened the tendrils binding Lu Fei Fan, pressing his struggling limbs firmly back into place.
Lu Fei Fan felt as if he were being crushed by a massive boulder. Suddenly, he recalled the tale from his previous life of Sun Wukong being trapped beneath the Five Elements Mountain by Tathagata Buddha; surely his situation was similar to that now?
He finally gave up struggling, gasping for breath as the Pulse Energy mechanism he had been operating ran out. Exhausted, he began to think of other methods; after all, he was not the type to wait passively for his doom.
"What a tenacious cockroach!" Xie Yuanbai said as he approached Lu Fei Fan, who was being restrained and suspended in mid-air, holding the backpack that had been snatched from him earlier.
He opened the backpack and pulled out the already still Poison Nest Spider Emperor Heart.
"Do you want this?" He looked at the Heart, then let out a hateful laugh. Suddenly, a malicious idea took shape in his mind, and he couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement at the thought.
"Alright, then I'll give it to you." Xie Yuanbai said abruptly.
At this, Hong Xin and Da Shuo were taken aback, and even Lu Fei Fan was momentarily stunned. However, as reality sank in, he realized that Xie Yuanbai's playful gaze was anything but benevolent!
"Then eat it!"
In the next moment, Xie Yuanbai tossed aside the backpack and grabbed the Poison Nest Spider King’s Heart, shoving it toward Lu Fei Fan's mouth!
Lu Fei Fan kept his mouth tightly shut. Finally, Xie Yuanbai stepped back half a pace while still holding the foul-smelling Poison Nest Spider Emperor Heart.
"Da Shuo, pry open his mouth! If he doesn’t open it, use a steel knife to cut it open!"
Da Shuo hesitated for a moment and glanced at Hong Xin. Seeing him silent and standing there, Da Shuo understood what was happening. If his eyes weren't blinded by that young man’s explosion, perhaps he wouldn't agree to such an act. But with his vision lost due to this young man’s actions, he felt a fire of resentment still burning within him.
He resigned himself to Xie Yuanbai's plan to torment this ignorant brat; otherwise, how could he relieve his pent-up anger?
Da Shuo stepped forward, his hands like Iron Pincers easily prying open Lu Fei Fan's mouth. In truth, Lu Fei Fan had exhausted all his Pulse Energy; if he had struggled against Da Shuo's grip, his teeth would have easily been crushed.
Xie Yuanbai sneered and began shoving the Heart into Lu Fei Fan's mouth repeatedly. The foul and bitter taste flooded Lu Fei Fan’s mouth, instantly making him feel nauseous. However, Xie Yuanbai lightly slapped Lu Fei Fan's chest cavity; the sensation of vomiting was forced down as the Pulse Energy mixed with the stinking Venomous Nest Spider Heart was pushed down his throat.
Juice oozed from his mouth and nose, but apart from muffled struggles, Lu Fei Fan had no way to escape.
When Xie Yuanbai stuffed that foul, stinking Heart into Lu Fei Fan's mouth, he finally stepped back with satisfaction, and Da Shuo released his grip on Lu Fei Fan's jaw.
"Alright, do you have any last words?" Xie Yuanbai asked insincerely.
With his head drooping and his body slumped, Lu Fei Fan hung in mid-air as if bound to an invisible gallows, resembling a lifeless figure. He murmured something barely audible.
"What? What did you say? Speak up, I can't hear you!"
Xie Yuanbai slapped Lu Fei Fan's head and admonished him loudly.
Still hanging with his head down, Lu Fei Fan raised his voice slightly, ensuring everyone present could hear him.
"I will kill you all!"
Lu Fei Fan's tone was numb and almost icy, as if he were repeating a predetermined fact.
This statement sent an unsettling feeling through the crowd. If he hadn't fallen into their hands, there might have been a risk of that happening. But now, this young man was merely a lamb waiting to be slaughtered; who would kill whom was uncertain.
"Alright then, I'll be waiting," Xie Yuanbai said, reaching out to pat Lu Fei Fan's cheek. Lu Fei Fan showed no reaction, hanging there like a lifeless corpse.
"Oh, by the way, I forgot to tell you that the Heart of the Poison Nest Spider King is also highly toxic. I believe that after you consume it, you might not even fulfill your earlier wish before you die. You’re probably going to suffer quite a bit..." Xie Yuanbai finished speaking.
Suddenly, Lu Fei Fan lifted his head sharply. His mouth was smeared with dark filth as he widened his eyes in shock; his Heart raced violently like a drumbeat.
A surge of toxins erupted from his chest cavity like a scalding bomb detonating within him. The energy crashed through his nervous system and throughout his limbs and bones, sweeping through his cells like a nuclear explosion.
Soon after, veins began to emerge on Lu Fei Fan's cheeks and limbs. These veins transformed from red to black and finally to green, swelling grotesquely beneath his skin. The blood vessels filled with black toxic blood twisted and writhed frantically; the bulging veins beneath his skin resembled parasitic creatures threatening to burst forth.
"Let him go," Xie Yuanbai commanded Hong Xin, then instinctively took several steps back.
Lu Fei Fan was released, and he collapsed to the ground, rolling in agony. His hands, covered in bulging veins, had begun to swell, and his face was marred by dark, twisted veins. In a fit of pain, he tore at his own clothes, the heat coursing through him felt like being set ablaze. It was as if thousands of ants were gnawing at his veins, internal organs, and brain. He felt like he was about to explode, writhing on the ground like a mad primitive man, struggling as his veins throbbed and pulsed beneath his skin, creating a terrifying sight.
The continuous cries of anguish made Xie Yuanbai, Da Shuo, and even the black dog and Hong Xin step back a few paces, fearing that this thrashing, dying man might inadvertently harm them.
Seeing Lu Fei Fan tormented like a wild beast, Xie Yuanbai laughed maniacally.
“Hahaha! Hahaha…”
The black dog frowned as he listened to the agonizing cries that filled the air, falling into silence. Da Shuo seemed unfazed, while Hong Xin watched the unfolding scene with keen interest.
Suddenly, Lu Fei Fan lifted his head. His blood-red eyes and the rotting skin on his body were truly horrifying!
Xie Yuanbai and the others instinctively recoiled in fear as Lu Fei Fan roared and charged into the forest.
Xie Yuanbai observed the writhing figure but had no intention of pursuing him. He held tightly to the half Heart in his hand; it was his proof for returning home.
As for Lu Fei Fan, he had completely slipped from Xie Yuanbai's mind. Having consumed most of the Poison Nest Spider King's potent Heart, it was likely that even a divine intervention would not save him now.
