In this world, many people live in a state of sameness, sharing identical experiences and encounters.
Most of the unhappiness occupies a significant part of your life.
In this jungle of steel and concrete, where material desires run rampant, the people living in island cities, whether rich or poor, will inevitably be carved into lonely and desolate beings by the tides of time.
Perhaps, amidst the vast and boundless sea breeze, they will wait for the clouds to disperse and the sunlight to shine down. However, wanting that sunlight to warm their hearts is ultimately a long and arduous process.
Sometimes hope can feel more despairing than despair itself. Lu Fei Fan is acutely aware of this and understands the deeper meaning behind Qin Qin's words.
Fortunately, he believes he has the ability to grasp that hope and to help his father recover. Yet, how many people are there in the Free Federation who are just like his father? Where does their hope lie?
Perhaps it has withered away in dark corners, turning to dust without leaving even a trace.
Fu Qinqin gazes at Lu Fei Fan, who is lost in thought and silence. She decides not to criticize him anymore—strong-willed, stubborn, determined, single-minded, rigid, and unable to adapt; sometimes she really dislikes these flaws of his.
So she turns her head away and looks outside, yawning and beginning to doze off.
Time is a cruel thing; it leaves marks on all things in the world, decaying layer by layer until obliteration.
Jiu Ye's injuries are no different.
During his hospitalization, under the watchful care of Da Biao, Cai Bi, and several fellows with ulterior motives, the entire ward often descended into chaos. The ones who suffered the most were the nurses—either being interrogated by Cai Bi about their measurements and marital status or being flirted with by Da Biao, who was an expert at teasing. Jiu Ye, a rough man himself, occasionally joined in on the antics with these two carefree rascals.
The once dreary ward became lively with their antics. Meanwhile, Da Biao and Cai Bi collected gossip about the nurses—tall or short, fat or thin—labeling each one as they went along.
When Jiu Ye was discharged from the hospital, Da Biao hooked his arm around Lu Fei Fan's neck and pointed at two pretty nurses at the Nurse Station.
"Hey, did I ever tell you that those two have a crush on you?"
“Cough, is that so?” Lu Fei Fan pretended to cough and shook his head. “With my good looks, isn’t this a normal phenomenon?”
At that moment, Cai Bi popped up from somewhere, leaning over the Nurse Station’s counter and handing over a box of something with a rather mischievous glint in his eyes. “Seize the opportunity and make the most of it; this is my secret stash!”
Lu Fei Fan looked at the box, feeling utterly helpless, still pondering how to deal with this beast.
Suddenly, Da Biao shouted to the nurses at the Nurse Station, “Nurse, he wants to take you out… for some fun!”
Yes, the last two words were emphasized very clearly by Da Biao!
The two nurses, who had been focused on preparing medication, lifted their heads to look at Lu Fei Fan. Their gaze quickly fell on the strange box in his hands… and then they looked at him with disdain.
Lu Fei Fan was momentarily stunned, feeling as if he had been betrayed!
Da Biao and Cai Bi were laughing so hard behind him that they could barely stand. When Fu Qinqin came out after helping Jiu Ye pack up his things and saw these two laughing like lunatics, she also looked at Lu Fei Fan with curiosity. However, when her gaze landed on the box in his hands, she shot him a look filled with contempt.
Lu Fei Fan raised the box awkwardly, wanting to explain something, but the nurses ignored him completely, as did Fu Qinqin.
“You two bastards…” Lu Fei Fan charged at Da Biao and Cai Bi, who immediately took off running.
It was quite an achievement to have his glorious image shattered like this; Da Biao and Cai Bi had effortlessly destroyed Lu Fei Fan’s suave and elegant persona in front of those nurses.
The days of rest for the Fei Hu Battle Team passed quickly. Each member seemed to be enjoying their time off, laughing and joking as if they were trying to empty out all the emotions and burdens accumulated from work.
This brief respite allowed the Special Operations Team members to feel human again rather than mere war machines. This was a requirement set by their commander for everyone to follow, which also aligned with the consistent style of the Fei Hu Battle Team.
Decisions for the Fei Hu Battle Team were primarily made by him and Da Fu. Once they agreed on a plan for a barbecue party to lighten everyone’s mood after recent tensions, they set it in motion.
Everyone seemed to be in sync, not mentioning Jiu Ye’s conflict with those thugs. That was something Jiu Ye could handle himself; it was a matter of basic trust.
Lu Fei Fan was visiting this base for the second time. He remembered his first visit, finding the place too dull, but this time he had a different experience.
Da Fu Ge and the horse team had set up a charcoal stove at the entrance of the base long ago, with a whole lamb sizzling on the grill, its golden oil dripping enticingly. Previously, the responsibility of serving drinks fell to Jiu Ye, who had a passion for it, but after his injury, Da Biao took over his duties. From what everyone had tasted, Da Biao's concoctions were indeed better than Jiu Ye's.
Cai Bi had brought a guitar, hoping to impress Qin Qin with a song, but Qin Qin showed little interest, either yawning or polishing her two shiny handguns throughout the performance.
As night fell and the fire blazed, the whole lamb continued to roast. In addition to the lamb, Lu Fei Fan showcased his skills by grilling fish and expertly preparing ribs, with Jia Jia handling the precise knife work.
The grilled fish was not a product of this world; it was something Lu Fei Fan had stored in his mind from his previous life. His professional technique earned him several praises from Da Fu as he watched. Once the fish was plated with an array of side dishes and drenched in Spicy Sesame Oil, its crispy and spicy aroma wafted through the air.
When he brought it to the table, everyone eagerly dove in, and surprisingly, the spicy and delicious grilled fish outshone Da Fu's hard work with the lamb.
Just as they were enjoying their drinks and barbecue, two vehicles approached from afar with their high beams on and stopped outside the lively base.
The doors opened, revealing a man dressed in a crisp white shirt, black vest, black bow tie, and a sharp black tailcoat, paired with perfectly pressed black trousers and shiny black shoes. He had neatly combed hair and stood tall like a gentleman.
Behind him followed several well-dressed men in suits. These men wore serious expressions and spread out to take their positions; some even opened car doors to stand guard against their surroundings.
"Is this the place?" The man surveyed the crowd gathered around the fire. The strong smell of grilled meat and alcohol in the air was not to his liking. While it was indeed a base, its simplicity fell far short of his expectations for a grand Special Operations Team headquarters; it resembled more of a large warehouse.
Indeed, the Fei Hu Battle Team's base was just that—a two-story warehouse.
The lead bodyguard following this man activated a virtual Power Display. A Light Screen popped up confirming that they had arrived at the designated location. He turned around to report.
"Mo Guan Shi, this is it."
The middle-aged man referred to as Mo Guan Shi nodded and pointed at the group laughing by the fire. "Are they the ones?"
The bodyguard craned his neck for a better look and replied uncertainly, "Shall I send someone to ask?"
"No need for that," Mo Guan Shi said, stopping the reckless fellows, and then he elegantly straightened his waist as he led them toward the fire pit.
Lu Fei Fan was reminiscing about the embarrassing moments when his father took him on mischievous escapades, and everyone was laughing heartily at the vivid recounting. Just then, a voice interrupted them all.
"Excuse me for interrupting," Mo Guan Shi said with an apologetic smile. Once everyone's attention shifted to him, he gracefully made a gesture of apology by placing a hand on his chest and bowing slightly.
This gesture eased some of the irritation from Lu Fei Fan, who had been interrupted.
"Which one of you is the captain of the Fei Hu Battle Team?" the elegant visitor inquired politely.
"That's me. May I ask who you are?" the horse team replied.
"Oh, hello." The visitor immediately walked over and presented a business card with both hands. "This is my business card. You can call me Mo Guan Shi. I represent Bai Ye Group. My family head would like to invite you to discuss a task. Would you be willing?"
Seemingly worried that the horse team might decline, he quickly added, "Even if you decide not to accept the task after our discussion, our Young Master will still pay you fifty thousand for your trouble!"
This was clearly an offer of easy money!
"Hey, there's actually such a good deal? Just for showing up and doing nothing, we get fifty thousand?" Jiu Ye scratched his head in disbelief, rubbing his ears as if he might have misheard.
"You heard correctly; this is one of our paid tasks and also an invitation," Mo Guan Shi replied with a smile.
Everyone looked at the horse team. The captain stroked his chin, glanced at Da Fu, and handed him the business card.
Da Fu examined the card and explained to everyone, "Bai Ye Group has monopolized a large portion of the Free Federation's black market trade. Their most renowned product is their top-notch bullet craftsmanship. I've heard that their custom-made Electromagnetic Armor-Piercing Rounds and electric explosive bombs can severely injure monsters below the level of a Predator!"
The group looked at Mo Guan Shi with suspicion, but he remained patient, smiling as he awaited the horse team's response.
Da Fu thought for a moment and cautiously asked, "Can I know the details of the mission we are discussing?"
Mo Guan Shi apologetically placed a hand on his chest and bowed slightly, saying, "I'm sorry, but I don't know either. However, we mean no harm to you all. It is precisely because your team has gained such a great reputation recently that we have extended this invitation. Please trust in the reputation of our Bai Ye Group."
The horse team pondered for a moment and nodded. "Since Warm Hospitality is hard to refuse, how can we turn it down?"
Mo Guan Shi nodded in confirmation. "So, you agree?"
"Of course! Why would we pass up an opportunity to earn money? As long as your mission does not involve harming anyone, we will consider taking it on for a reasonable reward," the horse team replied with arms crossed.
"That's wonderful," Mo Guan Shi gestured invitingly, indicating that the horse team should follow them out immediately.
Jiu Ye and Da Biao were about to stand up and join them when Da Fu stopped them, saying, "Qin Qin and Fei Fan should accompany the captain on this trip."
Lu Fei Fan and Qin Qin exchanged glances, then stood up and followed behind the horse team as they walked out. Mo Guan Shi and the other three led the way, with them trailing behind to get into the vehicle.
The remaining members of the Fei Hu Team watched as the vehicle sped away, each of them wondering what kind of mysterious invitation the Bai Ye Group had in store. Why had they specifically sought them out? Could it really be because their Special Operations Team had recently gained such notoriety?
