In the early morning, the Green Mist Rainforest was enveloped in an endless thick fog. The humid air clung to one's skin, damp and heavy, while the nearby leaves glistened with dewdrops that seemed ready to fall.
A little further away, only vague silhouettes remained, their outlines blurred and intertwined, making it difficult to discern the shapes of objects. The sky above appeared to be draped in a layer of white gauze, and no matter how sharp the morning light was, it could not pierce through the dense fog.
Compared to the eerie atmosphere of the night, the thick fog that shrouded the forest in the morning created an even more profound silence, as if time had come to a standstill. All living things seemed frozen in Bai Wu, transformed into a magnificent spectacle.
Yet the sound of the wind never ceased. A breeze blew in from the west, carrying with it a salty tang that swept through the trees, but it could not disperse the fog that enveloped the forest. This baffled Lu Fei Fan and his companions from the Fei Hu Battle Team.
"This is one of the rules of the forest's natural cycle," Jiang Yu said as he propped his notebook on a makeshift wooden stand. Holding a pencil, he continuously sketched the silhouettes of trees shrouded in mist, creating abstract 'masterpieces' on his pages.
Lu Fei Fan felt something awaken within him at Jiang Yu's words. His cells stirred as if breaking free from their cocoons, and countless pulses of energy surged within him like a tide. In that instant, Lu Fei Fan sensed something emerging from within.
The cells that had previously released energy now emitted an even more extraordinary force. They enveloped themselves like mist around their own membranes, and within him, a continuous transformation was taking place. This evolution surpassed the inherent structure of Lu Fei Fan's human body, morphing into something far more unique. If before his cells resembled fruits releasing fragrance, now these transformed structures were akin to astonishing ponds or lakes. This biological structure completely transcended Lu Fei Fan's previous understanding and fundamentally overturned his theories on Fu Mai Xi Shu's evolution.
"Is this what rules are?" Lu Fei Fan murmured to himself. Breaking free from established order and altering the natural structure bestowed upon him by nature—this was what all living things had always been doing. However, humans were not as pure as plants and animals; they relied heavily on civilization and technology to solve survival issues, which slowed their biological progression.
So then, what would happen if he continued to change?
With that thought in mind, Lu Fei Fan began to channel all his Pulse Energy, like a raging river flowing upstream...
Crack! Crack!
The sound of bones cracking echoed from Lu Fei Fan's body.
The others busy at camp turned their heads at the noise. The horse team and Da Fu Ge stared in astonishment at Lu Fei Fan. Even Jiang Yu paused his drawing, stroking his chin with interest as he watched Lu Fei Fan standing still.
Fu Qinqin grew anxious and approached to push Lu Fei Fan, but Da Biao quickly grabbed her arm and shook his head.
Squatting by the fire, desperately preparing breakfast for the entire team, Jiu Ye and Jia Jia stared at Lu Fei Fan, who had suddenly fallen into a deep trance.
Fu Qinqin waved her hand in front of Lu Fei Fan's eyes, but he showed no reaction at all. Growing increasingly worried, she glanced over at the horse team, who were also pondering what was happening.
“Wake up!” Fu Qinqin moved to the side and kicked the sleepy Cai Bi awake.
Cai Bi groggily sat up and yawned, scratching his head. He looked around in confusion and asked, “Is it time for breakfast?”
“Quick, take a look at him!” Fu Qinqin urged, pointing anxiously at Lu Fei Fan, who stood there like a clay statue.
“Huh?” Cai Bi stared at Lu Fei Fan from where he sat before hurriedly running over. He examined him closely but found nothing unusual. Then he reached out to check Lu Fei Fan's nose, noting his breath was steady but faint.
“What’s going on?” Cai Bi exclaimed in surprise. He quickly crouched down to find his medical kit and pulled out a stethoscope, placing it against Lu Fei Fan's neck and probing beneath his clothing.
After a moment, he set that aside and switched to a bone density scanner. However, as soon as the scanner began analyzing Lu Fei Fan’s body structure, it emitted a loud alarm and failed to provide any readings!
Cai Bi had no choice but to abandon that device and try another one. Yet with each new instrument he used, it malfunctioned with continuous alarms or yielded no results at all.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead—he wasn’t sure if it was mist or perspiration—Cai Bi felt a wave of helplessness wash over him as he looked at the unmoving figure of his companion.
“He was fine just last night…” Cai Bi muttered under his breath.
“You…” Fu Qinqin was both anxious and unsure of what to do next.
“Is this fellow poisoned?” Jiu Ye asked with concern. After all, Lu Fei Fan had helped him before; he certainly didn’t want anything bad to happen to him.
Cai Bi shook his head. “His breath and physical condition seem normal. It doesn’t look like there are any signs of poisoning.”
“Could it be... because of this fog?” Da Biao glanced at the thick mist that had yet to dissipate, his worry evident.
“If the fog is the problem, then he must be the last one to fall,” Cai Bi shook his head. “I’ve examined this Fellow’s physical structure; his skeletal strength and physique are definitely the strongest among us. The intensity and degree of his power are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. If we were to compete, I doubt anyone here could match him in terms of vitality. This was also confirmed by the data Jiang Wannian provided me back then.”
“Maybe he just got too tired and fell asleep?” Jia Jia recalled their night shift together and speculated.
“Is there any way to wake him up?” Fu Qinqin asked anxiously, fearing something might happen to him.
Cai Bi pondered for a while, then rummaged through his backpack for testing equipment, ultimately shaking his head.
“Damn it, maybe I should just give him a shot of energy stimulant!” Jiu Ye exclaimed, pulling something from his pocket, ready to inject Lu Fei Fan.
However, he was stopped by Jiang Yu, who gestured to Da Fu Ge to shake his head.
“Right now, it’s best that we don’t do anything to him. On the contrary... we need to wait,” Jiang Yu surveyed the group and stated.
“You mean we should just stay here and wait for him to wake up?” Da Fu Ge asked, looking at Jiang Yu.
“It seems we have no other choice,” Jiang Yu shrugged.
“What if he doesn’t wake up for a long time?” Cai Bi suddenly interjected.
A heavy silence fell over the group. They had come here on a mission; if they returned empty-handed, it would all be for nothing.
“I can stay behind,” Fu Qinqin decided firmly.
“Heh, what’s ten billion? I don’t care about that. If you don’t mind, I’d like to stay and see what this guy is really up to,” Jiu Ye said with a grin, rubbing his hands together.
The cavalry scanned the crowd, seemingly finding no objections from anyone.
"Then let's wait and see," the cavalry leader instructed as everyone continued to set up camp, remaining vigilant.
However, the thick fog did not dissipate as everyone had anticipated after noon. Instead, it lingered over the forest, and even many animals and plants seemed absent. Was this a phenomenon of the Green Mist Rainforest?
This deepened the understanding of both the cavalry and the Fei Hu Battle Team regarding the Green Mist Rainforest.
The white mist was manageable; they could still discern any beastly ambushes by the sound of the wind. As night fell, however, it seemed that sounds came from all directions—whispers of wind and occasional calls of birds or roars of beasts echoed through the dense fog. The cavalry had no choice but to assign three or four more people to keep watch.
As the night passed, Lu Fei Fan remained in his standing position. To alleviate his weight, the cavalry carefully removed his backpack and gear.
When the second night arrived, the fog appeared even thicker, enveloping everyone so that they could barely see their hands in front of their faces.
"Go set up warning landmines thirty meters out!" The cavalry leader, concerned by the worsening conditions, commanded Jiu Ye, Jia Jia, Cai Bi, and others to establish a perimeter around the camp.
During the night watch, everyone donned thermal imaging goggles. In truth, no one could sleep in such damp conditions; yet Adi seemed unaffected—eating when she wanted and sleeping when she pleased. Jiu Ye offered her sleeping bag and rations to Lu Fei Fan, who appeared unhurried.
"Have you ever encountered this kind of atmosphere before?" Da Biao suddenly asked her.
She shook her head and pointed at Lu Fei Fan. "What's wrong with him?"
Da Biao glanced at Lu Fei Fan, who had maintained his stance for one or two nights now. Concerned he might catch a chill from the mist, they had covered him with a sleeping blanket while keeping a fire nearby to warm him.
"He's probably just sleeping," Da Biao said, unable to find a better explanation.
"Doesn't seem like it," Adi replied, shaking her head.
“Then what do you think it looks like?” Da Biao continued to ask her.
Adi paused her nibbling on the Compressed Biscuit, her eyes darting around as she struggled to think. This was completely beyond her understanding, and after a moment, she gave up and shook her head.
“I don’t know…” she said, resuming her chewing. “When are we leaving?”
After finishing the Compressed Biscuit, she asked Da Biao again.
“We’ll leave once the fog clears,” he replied, glancing at the horse team. At that moment, he and Da Fu Ge were studying a map by the campfire, clearly preparing for something. If the thick fog dissipated and Lu Fei Fan didn’t wake up, they would likely send someone to take him back to the dock base while the others continued onward.
Thus, the group stayed in this camp for two or three nights. The fog never weakened; on the contrary, despite its overwhelming presence, there were no dangers reported. The warning devices set up thirty meters outside had not triggered any explosion alerts.
By the third night, the fog receded like a tide, suddenly revealing the true appearance of the Rainforest that had been obscured for three days.
The fog had lifted, yet Lu Fei Fan remained motionless under his blanket with no signs of waking up. A heavy gloom settled over everyone; if he didn’t wake soon, it seemed likely that things would take a turn for the worse…
