As soon as the words fell, a figure like a long rainbow streaked across the sky, plummeting downwards.
Boom!
Dust flew everywhere, and countless branches and leaves were instantly swept away.
In an instant, everyone saw a figure crash down, directly smashing a Tree Puppet into the ground, followed by a surge of dust and air.
Before the dust could settle, amidst the rising haze, a flash of blade light erupted from within, slicing through a nearby Tree Puppet that hadn’t reacted in time, causing it to wail in agony.
When the figure finally landed, Qin Qin realized it was Lu Fei Fan. The pair of Black and White Wings behind him fluttered dramatically, resembling an angel descending or a demon from the depths of the abyss.
Lu Fei Fan wielded the Silver Sparrow like a gust of wind, sweeping past those sluggish Tree Puppets, severing their main branches with precision.
Seeing Lu Fei Fan join the fray instantly boosted the morale of the Fei Hu Battle Team. Jiu Ye even hoisted an Energy Rocket Launcher and fired an Energy Cannon at one Tree Puppet, obliterating it into fragments.
Jiang Yu’s shotgun roared continuously; he seemed to need no aim as he held off one side of the assault effortlessly.
Fu Qinqin leaped out from cover and dashed towards Lu Fei Fan, her two metal guns roaring in her hands.
The cavalry and Da Fu coordinated with others to continue using incendiary grenades, and flames began to spread through the forest.
Suddenly, the situation took a turn. From the rolling moss and debris, something began to emerge.
Bang!
A Scorpion Monster, fierce and resembling a six-legged beast, burst forth from the ground. Its massive mouth filled with jagged teeth lunged towards Qin Qin, who had her back turned. It was eager to make this human its next meal!
Roar!
It couldn't help but let out an excited roar, trembling with exhilaration; this was its first hunt after a long period of hunger, and it was so successful!
Right before its eyes!
Bang!
A figure came rushing in, forcefully knocking it aside!
It collided with the beast.
The creature turned to look at the one who had struck it; it was Cai Bi.
Cai Bi's Submachine Gun was knocked away, tumbling to the side. He crawled on the ground, shaking his head as he prepared to stand up. Fu Qinqin heard the sound of the impact and suddenly turned around, seeing Cai Bi still on the ground. He glanced at the Submachine Gun just a meter away, while the unknown Ferocious Beast also eyed him hungrily from the same distance.
This meddlesome human had ruined its chance for a delicious meal. It roared in fury, its claws scraping against the ground as it lunged toward him.
Qin Qin quickly raised both guns and fired—bang bang bang—
The speeding bullets struck the beast, sending dust and branches flying, but they couldn't stop it from charging toward Cai Bi. Cai Bi also lunged for his Submachine Gun!
Roar!
A desperate struggle ensued!
For some reason, Fu Qinqin's heart raced at that moment; she pulled the trigger with all her might, but still couldn't halt the monstrous creature. She wanted to rush forward!
But something faster shot past her like a shadow.
Clang!
The air trembled with the astonishing Pulse Energy as the blade's shadow sliced through the giant beast's left side, piercing its entire body and shattering it into pieces.
Rolling to the ground, Cai Bi picked up her Submachine Gun and saw Lu Fei Fan standing there, sword in hand, looking at her with a charming smile.
"Hey," Cai Bi quickly stood up and gave Lu Fei Fan an impolite gesture.
The crisis was not over; suddenly, two more ferocious beasts charged out from the bushes on either side, attacking Cai Bi in a similar manner. One lunged at Da Fu Ge and the horse team, prompting both to aim their weapons at the creature and open fire.
Da Fu Ge threw a Hand Grenade into its gaping mouth. The beast swallowed it whole, momentarily bewildered.
Boom!
The explosion erupted from within its body, tearing it apart.
The other beast pounced toward Adi, who curled up in fear. Da Biao swiftly scooped her up and ran away. The beast chased after them, but Da Biao dodged to the side just as Jiu Ye aimed his Rocket Launcher at it. Whoosh!
The speeding projectile struck it head-on, engulfing it in a violent fireball. Despite being consumed by flames, the beast continued to pursue Da Biao for quite some distance before collapsing into a puddle of mush. The burning fire consumed all the branches and debris that made up its body, leaving only black ashes behind.
As the battle drew to a close, all the Tree Puppets that had ambushed the camp were annihilated, and flames engulfed the surroundings.
The members of the Fei Hu Battle Team hurriedly cleared the battlefield before swiftly leaving the area engulfed in flames to avoid being surrounded by the raging fire.
However, not long after they departed, dark clouds gathered overhead, rumbling as rain began to pour down, drenching the burning flames until they were completely extinguished.
The humid atmosphere of the Tropical Rainforest was unbearable.
Fortunately, every member of the Fei Hu Battle Team was wearing raincoats. Large raindrops fell onto the towering trees, sliding down their branches and leaves before dripping onto each member struggling through the underbrush below.
The thick raincoats made a pattering sound as raindrops hit them, and everyone's boots were soaked through; even the most waterproof jungle boots could not withstand such heavy rain.
It was hot and pouring rain.
"I think we should find a place to rest for a while," Da Fu Ge said, lifting his head to peer through a gap in the trees at the darkened sky. It looked like the rain showed no signs of letting up.
The horse team glanced at the sky and then at their watches; it was just past five in the afternoon. Everything appeared gray and murky, and visibility in the jungle was poor. The environment felt almost as if it were nightfall.
Eventually, the horse team agreed to find a spot to take a break.
They settled under a towering conifer, surrounding its trunk. They constructed a makeshift rain shelter and started a fire to heat drinks and food. Jiu Ye even found some branches to prop up near the fire, while everyone placed their wet boots and socks by the flames to dry.
Adi looked somewhat listless and drowsy. Cai Bi and Jiu Ye gathered some leaves to dry by the fire, laying them on some dry branches before spreading out sleeping bags and blankets. The child soon fell into a deep slumber.
Cai Bi touched her forehead, which felt alarmingly hot. He hurriedly fetched some antibiotics for her to take.
Lu Fei Fan and Da Biao stood guard on the perimeter. Da Biao crouched under a thicket with his Sniper Rifle, camouflaged in a raincoat that blended seamlessly with the green leaves. In the misty jungle, damp wild animals occasionally emerged, searching for food.
Yet, his rifle remained poised, scanning the surroundings with an electronic thermal imager. The communication device in his earpiece connected him to Lu Fei Fan, but aside from the patter of rain, there was little else to hear.
At that moment, Lu Fei Fan crouched against a tree trunk, water sliding off his raincoat as he practiced the Pulse Breathing Technique to harmonize his body temperature with the environment around him.
He sensed that those who had ambushed their camp earlier had not gone far; instead, they were likely lurking nearby, observing them. Thus, he maintained high vigilance in the unusually quiet rainforest.
As Lu Fei Fan had anticipated, Hao and Yura had not strayed far but were following them closely.
Hao stood bare-chested on a tree trunk in the rainforest, while Yura, resembling a Tree Demon, let the raindrops pelt her without concern, appearing quite comfortable.
"These people's route seems to be heading towards the Beast Realm!" Hao exclaimed angrily as he punched the tree trunk.
"Our Tree Puppet and Swamp Beast can't handle them. There's someone in their team whose strength is close to that of a General; neither of us can match him," Yura replied coldly.
“Are we just going to watch them march towards the Beast Realm? What’s the point of everything we’ve done?” Hao was unwilling to accept it.
“But there’s still Gui Luo and Yun Kui; maybe they…” She hadn’t finished.
“Shut up!” Hao interrupted her, catching the sarcasm and mockery in her tone. “What’s Gui Luo even worth?”
“At least he’s the strongest guardian awakened from the Holy Tree seed, much stronger than you, Forest Child.” Yura continued to jab at him relentlessly.
“That’s enough, Yura.” Hao’s expression darkened suddenly. “We should think of a way to deal with these people.”
“Hmph.” Yura snorted coldly, falling silent as raindrops pattered around them.
On the far side, further away from Lu Fei Fan and the others’ camp, a battle was erupting in the forest area amidst the torrential rain and rumbling sounds.
A dozen Mercenaries crouched behind trees or trunks, firing their weapons. In the distance, the trees in the rain were coming to life one by one, angrily roaring as they uprooted themselves and charged at the shooting Mercenaries.
Tree trunks crashed down on the Mercenary positions, and many cried out in agony.
“Quick, they’re coming!”
“Rocket Launcher!”
“Burn them alive!”
Boom!
A flaming Rocket Artillery shot out, striking a Tree Person and blowing off half of its body. It looked down in confusion at its own form before roaring and charging at the Mercenaries.
But those hiding behind the trunks quickly threw Energy Grenades in response.
Boom!
The explosion engulfed the Tree People.
The mercenaries launched a strong assault on the front lines. Judging by their formation, three or four teams of over ten mercenaries had joined forces.
However, the area before them was perilous, clearly beyond their capabilities. All the control stemmed from behind the Tree People, where a girl in white stood, her short hair drenched by the rain. She pressed against the trunk of the most ancient tree, and ancient totems on its bark glowed with a vibrant green energy. This made the ancient tree seem alive, continuously roaring to summon nearby trees to awaken and transform into Tree People.
Beside her stood a towering figure nearly two meters tall, with a handsome bark-like face. Covered in spiked wooden armor, it resembled a human but was constructed entirely of wood. It stood resolutely behind the girl, watching the battle ahead. In its hand, it held a vine-wrapped spear, resembling a forest warrior standing amidst the rain.
Before long, some of the humans in the opposing camp began to crumble.
“They're multiplying!”
“Fall back!”
“There are too many of them! Ah…”
The humans cried out in despair as they retreated. The sounds of gunfire and explosions began to diminish, becoming increasingly sporadic.
The coalition formed by humans ultimately failed in their offensive and began to collapse.
The girl, who had been supporting herself against the tree trunk, finally let go and fainted from exhaustion. The towering Tree Demon guardian wielding the Wood Vine Spear caught her and hoisted her onto its shoulder. Its eerie green eyes scanned the rainforest cautiously before it turned and moved deeper into the woods, disappearing into the curtain of rain.
In the spot that had just been observed, two seasoned humans remained.
One was entirely wrapped in a raincoat, with a bulge on his back suggesting he carried some weapon; his appearance was hard to discern.
The other crouched nearby, using a dagger to peel a crisp plant. He lifted his head to glance at the aftermath of the battle. His face was unkempt, with a large black mole beside his nose. He stuffed the peeled plant into his mouth and bit down with teeth stained black and rotten from years of smoking and drinking, producing a crisp crunch as he chewed.
"It seems that the Forest Child should retreat." He took a few bites of the delicious Succulent Plant, then clapped his hands and stood up. "It's our turn now."
With a wave of his hand, several burly men, hidden among the foliage and disguised as part of the vegetation, emerged from the jungle behind him. Each of them wore a fierce and menacing expression.
Looking at his team members, the young Mercenary with the black mole and rotten teeth proudly stroked his chin.
"What do you think of this strategy of waiting for the enemy to tire themselves out, Crazy? My plan as Li Tiezui isn't too bad, right?"
"Mm." The other man replied curtly, showing no further reaction.
The young man with the black mole and black teeth seemed accustomed to this wooden response from his Fellow and continued to stroke his chin.
"Let's go. The Source of Life belongs to our Mad God Special Operations Team!"
