As soon as Consort De stormed out of Crown Prince Hall with a face full of anger, I anxiously waited outside for a long time before cautiously stepping inside.
Once I entered the hall, I dared not make a sound. I tiptoed to the Crown Prince's table and placed the fruits down.
The Crown Prince still had his back to me, and all I could see was his tall figure, leaving me unaware of his expression at that moment.
I didn't dare linger, quickly bowed to him, and turned to leave. Just as I lifted my foot to walk away, my right hand was suddenly grabbed with great force.
Startled, I turned back to meet the Crown Prince's deep-set eyes. Before I could react, he pressed his lips against mine fiercely.
"Be my woman, and I will make you the second most important person in the future, just after me and the Empress." His enchanting almond-shaped eyes locked onto mine, and his seductive voice echoed in my ears, causing my heart to race and my face to flush instantly.
I nervously swallowed and stammered, "Crown Prince... are you serious?"
The Crown Prince frowned slightly and looked at me. "What? You don't believe it? To have you is to have the world! Tell me, isn't it only I who am worthy of being your man?"
I quickly shook my head and respectfully replied, "Thank you for your kindness, Crown Prince. I am unworthy of your noble status. I shall take my leave." With that, I hurriedly turned to leave.
When I rushed back to Seventh Prince's side, Qing Yu was sitting at the table flipping through a thick scripture.
Upon seeing me enter, Seventh Prince immediately stood up, hurriedly hiding the book behind him with a hint of panic on his face.
Curiosity piqued in my heart as I wondered what he was reading that required such secrecy.
Just as I was about to approach him with a question, Seventh Prince startled me by exclaiming, "Shaohua, why are your lips so red?"
I was momentarily speechless and felt a bit embarrassed, unsure how to respond.
"Hmph! Shaohua, did you sneak some fruits?" Seventh Prince bounced over like a child, scrutinizing me with an inquisitive gaze that made my heart sink.
"I want some too!" He said as he pressed down on the back of my head and leaned in with puckered lips.
I widened my eyes in terror; before I could struggle, his tongue swiftly licked across my lips and then forced its way between my teeth.
Afterward, Seventh Prince pulled away from my lips, smacking them as he savored the taste. He looked at me in confusion and asked, "Shaohua... did you rinse your mouth? Why does it taste like nothing?"
My face turned crimson as I stammered and couldn't find the words to respond.
The Seventh Prince, completely unconcerned, smiled and said, "Shaohua... If you want to eat fruit in the future, just tell me, and I'll grow it for you! After all, you're someone I like, Shaohua!"
A mix of emotions surged within me as I softly asked, "Seventh Prince... What do you like about me?"
The Seventh Prince scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed as he replied, "Everyone else thinks I'm foolish, but you, Shaohua, don’t think that of me..."
My heart sank at his words. I recalled all the teasing and impatience I had shown him these days, and a wave of guilt washed over me.
He actually sees me as someone who doesn’t look down on him.
"Seventh Prince," I said slowly, lowering my head. "We are not from the same world."
Upon hearing this, the Seventh Prince became flustered and anxiously exclaimed, "No! I want Shaohua!"
Just then, a maid rushed in in a panic, shouting loudly, "It's bad! It's bad! The Crown Prince ate the fruit that the Seventh Prince's messenger brought and has been poisoned! The imperial physician says the prognosis is grim!"
Qing Yu tilted her head and pondered for a moment before wrinkling her nose and saying, "Poisoned? Why would he be poisoned?"
I was taken aback, recalling what the Crown Prince had just said to me. My breath quickened as if the air had thickened around us.
"Biyu! Keep an eye on the Seventh Prince! If I don’t return by dinner tonight, then... make sure to take good care of the Seventh Prince for me!"
I took a deep breath and strode forward.
This must be the Crown Prince's scheme; it was his plot to harm Qing Yu!
I couldn’t understand why the Crown Prince, soon to ascend the throne, would harbor ill will toward a simple-minded boy. He should be focused on dealing with powerful rivals like the Third Prince or Eighth Prince. The Seventh Prince was nothing more than a laughingstock to the royal family.
When I arrived at Crown Prince Hall, the Crown Prince lay on his bed with his eyes half-closed, looking weak.
"How dare you enter here? Is Crown Prince Hall a place for you to come and go as you please?" The old matron at the door scolded haughtily.
"Let her in," came the Crown Prince's weak voice from inside.
I couldn’t help but smirk inwardly; it seemed that the Crown Prince was indeed a master of theatrics.
I quickly walked to his bedside and respectfully knelt down to pay my respects.
After getting up, I took a moment to gather my courage and said, "Your Highness, the Seventh Prince will not cause you any trouble for your kingdom. Why not spare him a life?"
The Crown Prince slowly raised his gaze, his clear eyes looking at me with a smile that was neither here nor there. "What? Are you negotiating with me now?"
I felt a surge of anger within me, but I could only suppress it.
Such a monster should be despised, trampled upon, and dragged to a brothel to sell himself in the Twenty-First Century!
Yet I respectfully replied, "This servant does not dare."
"Why do you think I am framing Qing Yu? The fact that I was poisoned is absolutely true." The Crown Prince's lips curved into an attractive arc, and a hint of cunning shone in his eyes, as if he were a big bad wolf waiting for a little rabbit to take the bait.
I scoffed inwardly, thinking: Who knows if you didn't just drink a spoonful of poison yourself and are now pretending to cry and make a fuss, blaming it on Qing Yu! But I still spoke respectfully, "Your Highness, you are mistaken. The Seventh Prince is merely a child with an incomplete mind; how could he go to such lengths?"
Suddenly, the Crown Prince grasped my hand and gently pulled me closer. He leaned in and whispered softly in my ear, "Be my woman, or I will ensure he has no place to be buried."
I was taken aback. Could it be… that the Crown Prince truly believed I was a celestial being from the heavens, and possessing me would grant him the kingdom?
"Your Highness…" My heart was torn. Given my current status, there was absolutely no way for me to negotiate for the Crown Prince to spare the Seventh Prince. Although he and I were from entirely different worlds, he represented the greatest favor this cursed era had bestowed upon me.
If agreeing could save his life… I bit my lip and closed my eyes. "If that is what it takes, then I agree."
