I realized I couldn't avoid this any longer, so I decided to go all out. According to the earlier words of the Swallowing Demon Lord, this was my Sea of Thought—my territory, where I was in charge. What was there to be afraid of? 0

"What's wrong? Have we met before?" I asked, trying to sound calm and regain the initiative. 0

But when I faced him directly, I couldn't help but be taken aback. He looked so damn similar! Even identical twins couldn't compare; it was as if he had been carved from the same mold. 0

It felt like looking into a mirror and talking to my own reflection. 0

He snorted coldly, his eyelids drooping as he said, "If it weren't for that Old Bald Donkey getting in the way back then, I'd be the one out there now, not you." 0

I was a bit curious. Old Bald Donkey? Was that my master? Considering what my father had told me before, my master was my savior and also a benefactor to our Ling Family. 0

"Look at you—neither human nor ghost. Which blind person would choose you over me?" I retorted with irritation. 0

He didn't seem offended; instead, he chuckled lightly. "Still as sharp-tongued as ever. Soon enough, you'll be begging for mercy." 0

No sooner had he finished speaking than an immense force pulled me toward him. I flailed my arms wildly, forgetting that this was the Sea of Thought—what could I possibly grasp here? 0

My neck was suddenly gripped! 0

I felt incredibly frustrated. Why was my slender neck such an easy target? What had I done to deserve this? Just escaped from the Swallowing Demon Lord's grasp only to fall into the hands of someone who looked just like me. 0

Our noses were almost touching. 0

"A wise person knows when to yield. I advise you to let me go early; otherwise, when I get angry, even I won't recognize myself," I threatened weakly. 0

His eyes were filled with disdain as he scoffed, "You're like a grasshopper in autumn; now that you're in my hands, do you think you still have the right to struggle?" 0

Before his words faded, I felt something within me begin to drain away, and my eyelids grew heavier. Just as I was about to lose consciousness, I saw the Shari on my chest emit a brilliant light. 0

A bright light filled my vision, accompanied by what seemed to be the voices of Feng Ming and Long Yin. 0

"I will not let you go..." 0

A voice filled with resentment and unwillingness echoed around me. My body instinctively recoiled... 0

When I finally regained consciousness, the roaring sound of a waterfall filled my ears, and my back felt damp. Dazed, I stood up and realized I was lying on a massive stone. 0

The flashlight I had earlier was nowhere to be found. I retrieved another one from my Qiankun Bag. On the ground, remnants of the Swallowing Demon Lord's clothing lay scattered; it had disintegrated into powder at the slightest touch, likely due to its age. 0

I searched the coffin three more times, only to confirm that the Swallowing Demon Lord was nothing more than a decorative facade. Despite its notorious name, its pockets were emptier than mine; there wasn't even a single hair left in the coffin. 0

Sighing, I thought to myself that making money still depended on my own efforts. Relying on others would likely yield no hope for a lifetime. 0

Once my strength returned, I decided it was time to head back. I hadn't come out with my father this time, and I had no idea how long I had been unconscious. It was best to report my safety quickly to avoid worrying him. 0

Fortunately, the return journey was free of any unpleasant surprises; otherwise, my stomach would have nothing left to expel. 0

Upon exiting the cave, I squinted against the bright light outside until my eyes adjusted. It was already evening; the setting sun bathed the clouds in a layer of orange hue. Wisps of smoke rose from chimneys in the village. 0

Birds chirped while dogs barked in the distance. The air was fresh and invigorating. 0

I spread my arms wide and took a deep breath, marveling at how wonderful it felt to be alive. 0

Though I couldn't comprehend what had transpired in my mind or how I had escaped, I was grateful for one thing: I had emerged alive. 0

With a cheerful tune on my lips, I made my way home. 0

"The pond is full, and the rain has stopped..." 0

"Big Brother, how about it..." 0

"Let's go catch some Mudfish..." 0

I hummed happily to myself, singing "Catch the Mudfish." It wasn't until much later that I realized I was not just tone-deaf; my singing was practically a noise nuisance. 0

As I walked towards Village East, lost in my melodious thoughts, a sudden blaring horn from behind interrupted me. 0

"Beep beep beep..." It sounded like an urgent summons. 0

I turned around, annoyed, wondering who could be so inconsiderate. To my surprise, I saw a black sedan. At that moment, I had no idea what brand it was; I only knew it had four wheels. 0

The car's shiny surface was almost reflective enough to serve as a mirror, and it was nearly touching my legs. The rural road was already narrow, and with me walking ahead, it was no wonder the driver was honking desperately. 0

I thought perhaps I had been too engrossed in my singing to notice. Realizing I might have been in the wrong, I stepped aside to let the car pass. 0

However, as the vehicle approached, it suddenly stopped. The window rolled down, revealing a young man with slicked-back hair. He looked somewhat familiar, but I couldn't quite place him. 0

The man in the car smiled at me and said, "Aren't you from Ling Shu's family at the west end of the village? Come on, hop in; I'll give you a ride." 0

Suddenly, it clicked. The young man in the car was Shen Tao, who was about seven or eight years older than me. I remembered him as someone who used to bully us when we were younger. Now he seemed to have made something of himself; his hair was styled with so much mousse that even flies would struggle to land on it. 0

I smiled and waved my hand. "Thanks, Tao Ge, but it's just a short walk. I need to stretch my legs anyway. You go ahead." 0

Then Shen Tao pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and offered me one. I waved it off again. "Tao Ge, do I look like someone who smokes?" 0

Shen Tao looked me up and down before laughing, "You must be in your twenties after the New Year, right? A man has to smoke and drink; otherwise, how can he get by? Just look at me, Tao Ge. The designer clothes I wear and the car I drive are all thanks to socializing. In this day and age, if you can't smoke or drink, you won't get anywhere..." 0

Just as Shen Tao was enjoying himself, a delicate voice from the passenger seat interrupted with a playful complaint, "Why aren't we leaving yet? I'm getting sleepy." 0

Shen Tao retracted his head back into the car and waved at me, saying, "I'll teach you some tricks next time we meet." 0

I smiled and replied, "Sure thing. Tao Ge, you'll come looking for me soon enough. Just remember to bring some drinks." 0

Shen Tao was momentarily taken aback by my strange remark. He was about to ask what I meant when he was interrupted by the urging of the woman beside him. He flashed me an apologetic smile and said, "Women are always like this. Let's hang out just the two of us another day." 0

With that, he started the car and sped away, the roar of the engine echoing through the village. 0

I watched the exhaust fumes trailing from the back of the car with a serious expression, thinking to myself that there would come a time when he would need to seek me out. 0
