The air was thick with the rich fragrance of flowers, and my father had prepared a feast of my favorite dishes. “Ling Feng, pour us a couple of drinks,” he said.

The girl looked at me timidly and then nodded, tears welling in her eyes. It was as if I had bullied her.
Just as I turned to leave, I felt a weight on my back, and something pierced my neck.

She burst into a sinister laugh, her expression twisted and far removed from the earlier pitiful look.

With a swift motion, I executed a flip and struck He Qian at the back of her neck with my palm like a blade. Her laughter abruptly ceased as her body slumped to the ground.
I grabbed some rope nearby and tied her up, stuffing a cloth in her mouth. Satisfied, I clapped my hands; this was what it meant to use someone's own tactics against them.
I quietly approached the iron door and listened carefully. After confirming that there was no one outside, I opened the door just a crack and squeezed through. Then I gently locked the door behind me.
When I stepped outside, I realized that this secret room was actually inside a pigsty. As I pushed open the lid above, a foul smell hit me, and two large spotted pigs scurried away.
I closed the lid and quickly made my way to the house in front. Just as I reached the kitchen, the back door of the main house suddenly swung open, forcing me to duck into the kitchen.
However, the kitchen was too small; there was nowhere to hide. I looked around and noticed two ropes hanging from above, with a string of cured meat dangling from them.
I sprang up, grabbed hold of the ropes, and flipped myself upside down, my feet resting on the ceiling.
Just as my face turned beet red and I felt like I might burst from the pressure, the commotion outside ceased. I quickly jumped down, but as I stepped out of the kitchen, I heard thumping footsteps coming down the stairs. Thinking fast, I took a running start, kicked off the wall, grabbed onto the eaves of the kitchen roof, and pulled myself up onto the roof. Then I lay flat on top of it.
From my vantage point, I saw He Yong go to the bathroom and then tell Aunt He that he was stepping out for something.
Since the kitchen was adjacent to the main house, when I got up, I found myself facing a second-floor window. For a moment, I froze; it seemed like there was a faint sound of crying coming from inside…
