Was Tian Tian discovered? Or were those people just setting a trap? I couldn't be sure for a moment. But even if there was only a one in ten thousand chance, I had to follow.
I had promised Tian Tian that I would take her out; a man's word is his bond.
The dark night served as the best cover, and I cautiously followed the traces on the ground, slowly pursuing them. After all, it was nighttime, and I figured those people wouldn’t be traveling in the dead of night.
After about half an hour of walking, I could faintly see flickering lights ahead. I adjusted my breathing and then quietly made my way closer.
In front of me, a thicket had been cleared to reveal an open space where a few people were gathered around a fire, warming themselves.
Their voices were low, but the chatter didn’t sound like the local dialect. My heart sank as I took another look at their features; their skin was generally darker, and their eyes were particularly striking.
I didn’t dare to stare for long and quickly glanced at them. Even so, one man sitting in the corner was sharp enough to notice my hiding spot.
Fortunately, a wild bird flew out, and that man sat back down after half rising.
I let out a silent breath; it turned out there was such a skilled person among this group. Just from my brief glance, he had become alert.
This made me even more certain that Tian Tian must have fallen into their hands.
After a long while, I resumed my observation and looked around but didn’t spot Hong Chou or Tian Tian. By the fire, there was a military-green tent.
The light illuminated a dark silhouette inside the tent. It was unclear whether it was one person or two. Just when I felt helpless, an annoyed voice came from inside the tent.
“I need to relieve myself; can’t you hurry up and untie me…”
The men gathered around the fire let out a series of mocking laughs but did not get up. Eventually, it was that man lurking in the shadows who spoke up before someone lazily stood up and headed toward the tent.
Seeing that this person was the leader made sense; no wonder he was so alert!
When the tent flap opened, I seized the opportunity to take a peek inside. Besides Hong Chou, there was also a woman lying on the ground with her long hair covering her face. However, from her clothing, I could still tell that it was indeed Tian Tian.
Hong Chou wore a serious expression and said, "With all of you watching me, do you think I can run away? You all look more like men than women, and your courage is certainly less than theirs."
She flexed her wrist and continued to mumble. The man, seemingly unable to tolerate Hong Chou's incessant chatter, coldly remarked, "If you don't go soon, you won't need to go at all."
Hong Chou stepped out of the tent and looked around before heading straight towards a dense patch of grass.
Oh my gosh!
That direction was exactly where I was hiding.
As Hong Chou approached the edge, she turned back to the group and warned, "If I catch any shameless person peeking, don’t blame me for being rude."
Then she disappeared into the grass and crouched down.
I was lying just a few dozen centimeters away from her. My face burned with embarrassment.
I reached out to greet Hong Chou, but as soon as my hand touched her arm, she jumped up as if shocked by electricity.
"Ah..."
Hearing Hong Chou's scream, which could only be described as heart-wrenching, the group quickly gathered around. Realizing I couldn't escape now, I grabbed Hong Chou's hand and ran, saying, "Sister, it's me."
To my surprise, her first reaction was to pull her hand away from mine and slap me across the face. "Pervert!"
I was stunned by the slap. Shouldn't she be grateful and begging me to help her out? What was going on here?
After all my effort lying in the grass while enduring bug bites, I just got slapped?
I felt more wronged than Dou E. In that darkness, it was only natural to have a clear eye to see what was happening.
In that moment of distraction, eight people surrounded us, blocking all escape routes. I forced a smile at the man whose arm I had previously broken. "Hi, nice to see you again."
The person spoke rapidly to the leader, and although I couldn't understand the words, I saw him raise his hand, likely indicating that he was reporting something.
After listening, the leader approached me. It was only then that I got a clear look at him. His skin was dark, and he wasn't very tall, but the muscles on his arms were as thick as my legs. He seemed to be a trained fighter.
"Beat me, and you can leave. Lose, and you die." His speech was halting, with a strange intonation.
I glared at Hong Chou and said angrily, "You got me into this mess."
Hong Chou finally realized what was happening but stubbornly refused to admit fault. He stiffened his neck and said, "Who knew you would be so shameless, hiding in a place like that to spy on others..."
I was at a loss for words and could only scratch my head in frustration.
It was clear that reasoning with a woman was futile. I shouted at the man in front of me, "If we're going to fight, no guns allowed; otherwise, I'm not playing."
He beckoned me with his hand and assumed a fighting stance—his legs slightly bent, fists raised in front of his chest. With all my pent-up anger, I charged at him.
He easily deflected my punch and then aimed to strike my chest with his elbow. I ducked down and kicked at his elbow joint.
His expression grew serious as he lightly tapped his toes on the ground before launching a flurry of punches and kicks at lightning speed. I stepped back a few paces, lifting my leg to block some of his attacks.
I gritted my teeth and held my ground. When we finally separated, I shook my injured leg repeatedly; it took a while for the numbness to fade.
I noticed he was also pressing his lips tightly together, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. I knew he wasn't feeling great either.
With a sudden burst of speed, he ran toward me and delivered a powerful kick. For a moment, he seemed suspended in mid-air before landing the blow. I crossed my arms over my chest just in time; when his kick connected, it felt like being hit by an elephant. I slid backward for quite a distance before managing to regain my balance.
Fueled by anger from the hit, I activated the Great Shift Technique. The characteristics of Luohan Fist became apparent as its long-range attacks flowed seamlessly. As my momentum built up, the pressure on him increased.
Seizing the opportunity, I executed a sweeping kick that sent him crashing to the ground. Feeling triumphant, I lifted my chin in challenge.
However, in my moment of satisfaction, I completely forgot about the situation behind me when something cold pressed against my lower back.
I raised my hands and said, "Isn't this supposed to be a fair duel? Aren't you afraid of what the international community will say about this?"
The man chuckled coldly while rubbing his chest, "All I know is that dead people don’t talk."
I felt a chill run down my spine and quickly replied, "Come on now. I have many good qualities... I can cook, wash dishes, keep you warm at night... You won't regret taking me along."
He glanced at me and gave a few instructions to his subordinates, and before I knew it, I was tightly bound and thrown into the tent.
At that moment, the difference in gender became apparent. The two men who were holding me simply tossed me inside, and I landed in a heap. Meanwhile, they treated Hong Chou with much more courtesy, gently pushing him into the tent. In comparison, it was quite tender.
I felt like crying; why was I so unlucky?
Once again, I found myself as a captive!
