"Run..." I shouted loudly. Ruo Yu and I had a certain level of tacit understanding; we immediately turned and tore a hole in the tent, then took down the guards stationed outside, one each.
However, in that brief moment of delay, a swarm of enormous mosquitoes descended upon us, their sharp proboscises resembling daggers.
I summoned Fo Xi to raise a barrier in front of us, and the mosquitoes piled up layer upon layer against the shield. They clustered together like a massive heap of sesame seeds. Thankfully, I didn't have obsessive-compulsive disorder; otherwise, even if I didn't die, I would go insane.
Ruo Yu stood behind me, fending off the encroaching attackers. There was no finesse to his technique; he relied solely on brute strength, lifting them up and throwing them down or simply punching them out of the way. It was straightforward and effective.
Under the control of Wasp King, some mosquitoes flew towards Ruo Yu. Despite his tough exterior, he couldn't withstand being covered by them entirely, letting out muffled groans of pain.
While maintaining the barrier, I moved closer to Ruo Yu. Mosquitoes thrive in filthy environments and were repelled by Fo Xi's pure aura. As I approached, some of the mosquitoes on Ruo Yu lessened. I placed my hand on him, and Fo Xi's barrier protected both of us.
Outside, mosquitoes continued to swarm.
Ruo Yu and I slowly retreated. I pulled unwanted clothes and oil from my Qiankun Bag while Ruo Yu wielded a torch in each hand, constantly driving away the mosquitoes clinging to the barrier.
The flames crackled as they burned the mosquitoes, filling the air with a charred scent while piles of mosquito corpses accumulated on the ground.
Seeing an opportunity, I exchanged glances with Ruo Yu and quickly dashed toward the central campfire in the tent.
I tossed two torches onto the tent. The fabric was flammable, and with some blankets inside, it didn't take long for flames to shoot up high, casting a red glow on our faces.
Wasp King wore a grim expression as he shouted at his remaining subordinates, "Kill them!"
These lackeys were no match for us; we dispatched them swiftly without breaking a sweat.
I looked at the groaning figure on the ground and coldly pointed at Wasp King.
Wasp King showed no sign of fear; clearly, he was unaware that in a two-on-one situation, he stood no chance.
A smirk curled at the corner of Wasp King's mouth, and I sensed trouble. Before I could even warn Ruo Yu, a shadow darted out from the bushes and tackled me to the ground.
As we both rolled over, I realized that a large, soft mass was pressing against my chest. It must have been a woman with an incredible figure; one hand wouldn’t be enough to grasp her.
In the heat of the moment, I didn’t have the luxury to savor the situation. My right hand shot out, aiming to seize her throat.
To my surprise, she was no pushover. With her knee slightly bent, she delivered a fierce strike right to my groin.
I reacted instinctively, flipping over and pinning her down beneath me, raising my right hand to deliver a punch to her temple.
In that moment, gender didn’t matter; besides, if I hadn’t reacted quickly enough to her earlier attack, I would have lost my manhood for good. So I held nothing back with that punch.
The woman had anticipated my move; she tilted her head just in time and charged straight at me, looking for a head-on collision.
I wasn’t afraid; I had never backed down from a headbutt challenge before. We collided with a resounding thud.
There was a moment of disorientation, but instinct kicked in, and I stepped back to create some distance between us.
When my vision cleared, I found that she had recovered as well. Clenching her fists, she charged at me again. She was tall and wore a tight black outfit that accentuated her figure. Her long legs aimed a kick straight at my chin.
I raised my leg to block her attack, deflecting her strike. Using the momentum, she spun around and unleashed a flurry of kicks.
Realizing that this back-and-forth would lead nowhere, I decided to employ the Great Shift technique and retreated slightly. Turning to Ruo Yu, I asked, "What’s going on over there?"
Ruo Yu spoke a bit breathlessly but with a strong voice, "I can still manage." Indeed, the Wasp King, aside from his ability to control insects, wasn't much of a fighter. Ruo Yu, enduring the discomfort of mosquitoes crawling all over her, charged straight towards the Wasp King. The Wasp King was clever enough to know he couldn't take a hit, so he led Ruo Yu on a wild chase through the forest, trying to wear her down.
With too many lice, the bites hurt. And these were mutated mosquitoes. Each bite could drain a considerable amount of blood.
Currently, it was a deadlock at two against two. If Ruo Yu fell, I feared I wouldn't escape unscathed either. I was planning to join forces with Ruo Yu to subdue the Wasp King when that woman smiled knowingly and blocked my path. Clearly, she had seen through my intentions.
The woman's skin was dark, but her features were striking. With a heart-shaped face and alluring phoenix eyes, she looked at me as if I were a delicacy laid out on the table for her to savor. Although her smile had a certain charm reminiscent of a captivating glance that could enchant anyone, to me, it felt like the most poisonous of hearts.
"You are the one who took down Sang Ji's lair, aren't you?" The woman's Mandarin was not very good; her voice was slightly hoarse as she asked.
It was evident that this woman held a higher status than the Wasp King, who stood half behind her. Ruo Yu was dressed as a National now, but this woman seemed not to recognize her and instead scrutinized me from head to toe.
I realized this must be Sang Ji's accomplice; no wonder she was so difficult to deal with. But then I straightened my chest and declared loudly, "That's right, it's me."
The woman seemed taken aback by my confidence and frowned slightly.
I continued, "To be honest with you, we've already seen through your little schemes. Don't make a fool of yourself by trying to cover your ears while stealing a bell. With tricks like yours—ha!"
The woman's expression changed again. "You’re a spy?"
I held my head high and replied, "Naturally. A Big Shot from the Special Investigation Bureau has already reached the border. I advise you to keep your heads down; you might still save your lives. Otherwise, if you end up dead without a trace, don't blame anyone but yourselves."
"Big Shot from the Special Investigation Bureau? Who is coming?" The woman countered, seemingly very interested in this information.
I smirked and said, "Guess."
The woman cursed, "Looking for death," and charged forward, ready to fight without any hesitation. "No matter who you are, your life is mine today."
The Wasp King also commanded the mosquitoes to swarm around Ruo Yu.
The woman's attacks became increasingly swift, her body moving like a snake, able to strike in ways that ordinary people could not. Her techniques were cunning, targeting vital areas. I found it somewhat difficult to defend against her.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Ruo Yu's speed had noticeably slowed. The mutated mosquitoes were clearly laced with toxins; a few bites were manageable, but in swarms, I feared Ruo Yu would not be able to withstand them.
In that moment of distraction, I took a hit to my chest and staggered backward. Meanwhile, Ruo Yu could no longer hold on; his massive frame collapsed to the ground.
I couldn't afford to pay attention to the woman behind me and hurried over to Ruo Yu's side. "Ruo Yu Brother, are you okay?"
Ruo Yu's voice was weak. "I'm fine; it's just that the mosquitoes bit too hard. I won't die from it."
