Ruo Yu looked at me, surprised by my indifference, and asked, “Ling Feng, don’t you have any thoughts about this?” 0

I shrugged and replied, “Given my current situation, even if I had thoughts, there’s nothing I can do about it.” 0

Ruo Yu lowered her voice mysteriously and said, “Do you know who the Special Investigation Bureau sent to take charge this time?” 0

I countered, “It wouldn’t be An Old Man, would it?” 0

Ruo Yu widened her eyes and exclaimed, “You know about that? It must have been Ren Yi who let it slip.” 0

“Is it really An Old Man?” I asked skeptically. 0

Ruo Yu nodded. “Not just An Old Man; there’s also a Big Shot involved. This shows how determined the Special Investigation Bureau is regarding this matter. Those evil forces wouldn’t dare to come lightly.” 0

I shook my head. “That’s not necessarily true. You have to understand that Jiao Zhu is something rare and hard to come by. Especially in times like these, once you miss this opportunity, there won’t be another.” 0

Such a huge temptation is not something everyone can resist. 0

I then asked, “When is An Old Man arriving in Y City?” 0

Ruo Yu replied, “I heard it’s tomorrow? Why? Do you have something in mind?” 0

“An Old Man has always treated me well. If he comes, I naturally have to go pick him up. It’s only proper,” I responded. 0

Ruo Yu seemed puzzled. “With your condition, you still want to go out? You should get past the nurse first.” 0

I chuckled; that nurse was quite formidable, especially when it came to giving injections. 0

After a light dinner, I closed the door to my hospital room and put up a warning talisman. 0

Then I sat cross-legged on the bed despite the pain and began my cultivation. The Wood Heart, glowing with a green light, rested in the palm of my hand. 0

It felt as if my entire body was soaking in a warm medicinal bath, so comfortable that I couldn’t help but let out a soft moan of pleasure. 0

The place where my ribs had broken was healing rapidly, and the dislocated parts were also recovering. My body was functioning at an accelerated pace. 0

The long night quietly passed, and dawn was approaching. I exhaled a breath of stale air, moved my body a bit, and surprisingly, most of my injuries had healed considerably. 0

However, the light of the Wood Heart seemed to dim just a little. 0

After suffering such severe injuries, if I were to rest for three months—no, even just one month—I would probably suffocate from boredom. 0

I thought to myself that life should be full of challenges; that’s what makes it interesting. 0

Ruo Yu wasn’t surprised by my recovery. Although others at the Special Investigation Bureau were accustomed to bizarre occurrences, they were astonished to see me, after just one night’s sleep, nearly healed from such serious injuries. Their jaws almost dropped to the floor in disbelief. 0

The doctor in charge of my treatment looked at me with shining eyes, eager to strip me down for a thorough examination. 0

While heading to the cafeteria with Ruo Yu for breakfast, she focused on her large meat bun and remarked, “Ever since becoming human, I’ve realized how I wasted my previous life. Hey, Ling Feng, I think this Special Investigation Bureau isn’t too bad. Are you really not considering it?” 0

I stuffed a bun into Ruo Yu's mouth and replied, “I don’t think it’s the Special Investigation Bureau that’s good; it’s the food here that’s great. Honestly, I’ve considered it before, but I can’t stand the bureaucratic nonsense. Even if it’s someone like Han Che, I wouldn’t be able to learn it in several lifetimes. Besides, my goal is to open a shop and make money. If I really manage to get somewhere in the future, then maybe I’ll think about joining the Special Investigation Bureau.” 0

As I was outlining my future plans to Ruo Yu, a sarcastic voice came from behind me. “So you’re treating our Special Investigation Bureau as a backup plan? Ling Feng, you really have some skills!” 0

Han Che patted me on the shoulder and laughed. Feeling a bit awkward, I chuckled and said, “Boss, that’s not what I meant! I’m just used to being free-spirited. Having someone like me in the Special Investigation Bureau would only cause trouble for you.” 0

Han Che nodded and said, “Not bad; you have some awareness.” 0

I continued, “I heard An Old Man is coming today. I want to go pick him up; what do you think...” 0

Han Che glanced at me and said, “You say you don’t know how to play the bureaucratic game, but it seems you’re quite good at flattering.” 0

I didn’t bother explaining further. To him, this might seem like flattery; to me, it was simply picking up a friend. I respected An Old Man for who he was. If it were anyone else—even if they were royalty—if I didn’t like them, no amount of effort would make me go. 0

But even if that was my perspective, Han Che would likely see it as mere excuses. So I chose not to argue further. 0

"Since you have this intention, I'll have Mao Master take you there," Han Che said straightforwardly. 0

I thanked him and happily got into the car heading to the airport. 0

"Ling Feng, should we buy a bouquet or something to show our appreciation?" Ruo Yu asked. 0

I looked at Ruo Yu as if I had seen a ghost. "These are all just formalities. When did you start thinking like Han Che and his crew?" 0

This was my first time at the airport. It wasn't crowded, and the place was bright and spacious. Ruo Yu and I, two country bumpkins, almost got lost. 0

Fortunately, Mao Master often came to pick people up and was quite familiar with the place. He led us to a special passage. 0

"With An Old Man's status, they take a private jet and have a dedicated exit," Mao Master explained. 0

I curiously asked, "Isn't it a waste to use such a big plane for just a few people?" 0

Mao Master replied, "How can that be called waste? An Old Man and his companions are great contributors to our country. These are rights they deserve." 0

I couldn't help but click my tongue in admiration; the Special Investigation Bureau really was wealthy and impressive! 0

As we spoke, An Old Man walked out from inside, accompanied by a serious-looking elder of similar age, dressed in a Zhongshan suit with meticulously combed hair, walking alongside An Old Man. 0

Next to the elder was a sweet-looking girl, probably not even twenty. She had a round, rosy face that was quite adorable, smiling sweetly while holding onto the elder's arm. 0

Upon seeing me, An Old Man was pleasantly surprised. "Ling Feng, weren't you injured? Why did you come here?" 0

I smiled and replied, "You're visiting Y City; how could I not come personally to welcome you?" 0

An Old Man laughed heartily and slapped his forehead. "You see, as one gets older, they tend to forget things easily. Let me introduce you." 0

"Lao Wu, this is Ling Feng whom I mentioned before. What do you think? Quite an impressive young fellow!" An Old Man introduced me. 0

“Welcome to the Special Investigation Bureau's Special Operations Bureau. This is Wu Yuanyuan, the granddaughter of the Special Operations Bureau.” 0

I respectfully called out, “Wu Lao,” and then nodded at Wu Yuanyuan. 0

Wu Lao merely responded with a nonchalant “hm.” I suddenly felt a bit awkward. 0

An old man chuckled and patted my shoulder, saying, “Don’t mind him; that’s just his nature.” 0

Wu Yuanyuan, however, was quite friendly as she asked, “Brother Ling Feng, I heard you had a run-in with Jiao Long. Is Jiao Long really that terrifying?” 0

I scratched my head and smiled, “I was just lucky to have survived.” 0

Wu Lao snorted, “At least you have some self-awareness.” 0

I was furious. If it weren't for helping your Special Investigation Bureau, would I have to deal with this? Not a single word of thanks, just some cold remarks? 0
