After parting ways with Ruo Yu, I randomly chose a direction and activated the Great Shift Technique to dash forward.
To my surprise, after running for a short while, I heard a rumbling sound coming from behind, accompanied by blinding beams of light.
I turned around to see motorcycles speeding towards me. Instinctively, I ran into the fields; wherever the terrain was rugged and the path difficult, that was where I headed.
However, H City is relatively flat, and despite the crops growing there, the ground was still manageable. The roar of the motorcycles grew louder and closer.
As the distance between us diminished, my only thought was that the longer I delayed, the greater the chance Ruo Yu had to escape. If Ruo Yu transformed back into her original form and hid in the grass, those pursuers would likely never suspect it. Therefore, I had to hold on and buy Ruo Yu as much time as possible.
As long as the message got out, as long as I stayed alive, there would always be a chance to get away.
With my head down and gritting my teeth, I ran for my life. Fortunately, Fo Xi was sufficient for now; if it were before, I would have probably been caught after just a few steps.
Bang... Bang... Bang...
The loud noises echoed behind me, like arrows whizzing past my ears.
I realized something was wrong; these guys actually had guns. With no time to spare, I continuously changed directions. As long as they couldn't aim properly, I still had a chance.
I decided to take a gamble! If I really got hit, then it would just be my bad luck. After running for a while longer, I could no longer see Pig Farm behind me, but the motorcycles were still hot on my trail.
Just as I was secretly relieved that they hadn't hit me despite firing so many shots—what incredible luck!
But just as that thought crossed my mind, pain shot through my knee. Because I was running so fast, I ended up kneeling on one knee. However, due to inertia, my body leaned forward and my other leg nearly straightened out completely. Thankfully, my training helped me avoid injury; otherwise, this split would have been disastrous.
As I struggled to get back up and continue running, a cold gun barrel pressed against my forehead.
Xia Xing said, “I want to see which ghost dares to eavesdrop on matters of the Evil Spirit Cult.”
When the intense beam of light from a flashlight shone on me, I instinctively shielded my eyes. However, Xia Xing seemed to recognize me anyway and chuckled, “I thought it was someone else. Turns out it's you!”
I grinned and said, "Yeah! We're familiar enough, so no need to be so polite!"
I gestured to the two people behind me who were holding me captive. Xia Xing laughed, "Back when you were trying to steal Jiao Zhu, you did everything you could to oppose us. Now the tables have turned, and you've fallen into my hands."
With that, he gave my face a light slap.
I explained, "Stealing Jiao Zhu was the work of the Special Investigation Bureau; it had nothing to do with me! I'm just an ordinary civilian. They paid me to do a job; how could I refuse?"
Xia Xing said, "You're quite the smooth talker! Take him back!"
The motorcycle roared through the night. When we returned to the Pig Farm and I heard no other sounds, I felt relieved. It seemed they hadn't caught Ruo Yu.
"Hmph, letting that guy escape!" a woman said angrily. As we stepped into the light, I was surprised to see a familiar face.
After the Poison Scorpion Master met his tragic end, his female disciple Yao Ji had ended up with Xia Xing. It seemed they were the ones doing good deeds in that house earlier!
When Yao Ji saw me, her face showed surprise. "Oh, it's you!"
She reached out to touch my face and then my chest muscles. "What a shame for such a handsome face! Why would you be so foolish as to join the Special Investigation Bureau against us Evil Spirit Cult? It's like the birthday celebrant hanging himself—asking for trouble!"
I chuckled, "Beauty, it's great to see you again! What an honor. I must clarify that I'm not one of the Special Investigation Bureau's people. They just hired me for some work. If you pay me, I can work for you too. That Holy Son Mo Cang has been quite good to me!"
Xia Xing scoffed, "You even want double pay? Be honest—who's your companion and where did they run off to?"
Xia Xing pinched my chin tightly, almost crushing it.
I smiled at him and said, "I came alone. Who would be bored enough to come investigate with two people? That would make us too obvious. Besides, since you've caught me, how many young people in the Special Investigation Bureau do you think are stronger than me?"
Xia Xing looked skeptical and glanced at Yao Ji. She frowned and said, "He seems to have a point. When I chased after that shadow earlier, it was running on all fours and was incredibly fast; it disappeared into the grass."
“Then what do you think it looks like?” Xia Xing asked.
Yao Ji thought for a moment and replied, “A pig!”
Then someone behind them chimed in, “It really doesn’t look much like a human. It must be some kind of animal!”
Xia Xing said, “This one is too cunning; tie him up tightly. Also, give him some soft bone powder!”
I was then tossed into an old room nearby, right next to the pig slaughtering area, and the smell was unbearable.
Although I felt dizzy, I could still hear their conversation. The gist was that an important person would arrive soon. They would decide whether to evacuate once the person arrived.
After that, I couldn’t catch any more of their words. That soft bone powder was indeed powerful; my whole body felt limp and weak, even my thoughts slowed down, leaving me feeling empty and uncomfortable.
I lost track of time in my dazed state until I finally woke up, feeling dizzy and disoriented. It took me a while to regain my senses.
So I listened carefully to the conversation outside.
“This time it’s a loli who’s coming, and she’s incredibly beautiful. Hehe…” The speaker laughed lewdly.
Another person said, “I advise you to be cautious. This girl is quite formidable; don’t think you can take advantage of her without consequences. Brother, lust can lead to disaster; it’s better to restrain yourself.”
The first man replied, “Of course. Who would dare touch someone from the Holy Son? I’m just indulging in idle talk!”
“Ever since the Black Magic Cult was wiped out, the Holy Son has ordered everyone to go underground. What’s going on with that?” another person asked.
The other man whispered, “I have a relative working in the headquarters, and according to him, the Holy Son is planning something big this time—he wants to go all out against the Special Investigation Bureau.”
The first man nodded, “I see! No wonder they’re so eager to bring the Holy Demon Sect on board.”
“Isn't that right? The Holy Maiden of the Holy Demon Sect is not even eighteen yet. If it weren't for the Holy Son pushing too hard, she probably wouldn't have agreed at all,” another person replied.
Hearing the words "Holy Demon Sect," my mind exploded with a rush of thoughts. My poor sister is in the Holy Demon Sect, isn't she?
I remember when we parted, Liu Er tearfully said to me, “ Ling Feng, I’ll be waiting for you to rescue me from the Holy Demon Sect.”
“ Ling Feng, when I get out, you must let me taste Dad's cooking!”
…………
Fragments of memories suddenly surged forth. I wondered if the important figure they mentioned would be her.
It’s been so long since we separated. Is she doing well? Does she still remember her brother?
