Wen Xin exclaimed unexpectedly, "I know! I know!" and then she grabbed Wang Lijuan and ran outside. Everyone followed them out. 0

They arrived at the riverbank in front of the village. Although the moonlight was not particularly bright, the night was not too dark either; there was a gentle breeze, but it was mild. The river flowed softly, and they could occasionally hear distant calls. They reached the bridge, where no one was present. 0

Wen Xin stood there, illuminated by the moonlight, highlighting the girl in her white top and black pants. Her face appeared even paler, with glistening tears sparkling on her long eyelashes. A row of neat white teeth had already bitten her delicate, light pink lips until they bled. Her frail figure trembled under the moonlight. A gust of wind blew, lifting her long hair as she looked around anxiously. No one was there! In the moonlight, visibility stretched far despite the hazy night. 0

"My brother lied to me! My brother lied to me," she murmured. "He’s not here! Why? Whenever I’m unhappy, he always comes here. Why isn’t he here tonight?" The dim moonlight felt a bit cold. Wen Xin shook her head repeatedly, her hair swirling in the wind. 0

Wang Lijuan approached and embraced her, allowing Wen Xin to lean against her. In the hazy moonlight, Wang Lijuan's figure appeared resolute and composed. The wind continued to blow gently, causing Wang Lijuan's skirt to flutter lightly. Her face bore an unusual calmness as her lips moved silently; no one knew what she was saying or thinking. The wind still blew softly. 0

Wen Sheng's Mother also ran onto the bridge and asked, "Wen Xin! Where is your brother?" 0

"Where is my brother? I don’t know! He lied to me! He always comes here when he’s unhappy! He didn’t come; I don’t know why!" Wen Xin's voice suddenly changed, as if Wen Sheng had vanished and she no longer had any connection to him. No one knew why! 0

Wang Lijuan felt that Wen Xin had completely leaned against her as if she had no strength left to stand. Yet she could feel Wen Xin’s body gently moving in her embrace. Wen Xin had closed her eyes. 0

Wang Lijuan lowered her head; her hair fell across Wen Xin’s face, which looked so pale in the moonlight, like snow. 0

"Wen Xin! Wen Xin!" Wang Lijuan kept shaking her gently. 0

Wen Xin slowly opened her eyes and said softly, "Sister! I’m so tired! I just want to rest; Er Ge is tired! I’m tired! I hate them." She didn’t continue speaking; tears fell onto Wang Lijuan’s hand, warm against her skin. The wind still blew softly. 0

Wen Sheng's Mother sat down on the ground, repeatedly murmuring, "My son! My son." Her face was somewhat darkened, perhaps from years of working in the fields under the sun; it bore many wrinkles. In that moment, she appeared aged and helpless. 0

Wen Sheng's Father stood there, motionless, thinking to himself: Wen Sheng is my son! Indeed, he is my own flesh and blood. As he pondered this, tears began to fall. 0

Xiang Shu also stood there. "Wen Sheng is somewhat pitiful; yes, he truly is," he murmured to himself. 0

Gao Ming kept hitting his own head with his hand. His dark face showed no expression. "We are good friends! Brothers!" He repeatedly recalled the words he had shared with Wen Sheng. It seemed he understood now why, during their brotherhood ceremony, Wen Sheng had not spoken the words of sharing both fortune and misfortune. It was indeed a heavy burden. 0

Wen Sheng's Grandmother cried, her heart aching deeply. 0

It was late! Wen Xin had fallen asleep in Wang Lijuan's arms. Wang Lijuan wanted to carry her back but found it too difficult. She handed Wen Xin over to Gao Ming, and they all began to head back. Upon arriving at Wen Sheng's home, they noticed the lights were on. Wen Hao lay on the bed and asked upon seeing them return, "Did you find my brother?" 0

No one answered him. Gao Ming gently placed Wen Xin on her bed and covered her with a light blanket. Then he slowly backed out of the room, as if afraid to disturb anything. 0

Wen Sheng's Mother kept watching Wen Xin, observing how peacefully she slept. How had the child fallen asleep? She thought to herself... 0

Gao Ming led Wang Lijuan to the intersection in town when Wang Lijuan called out to him thoughtfully, "Stop for a moment! I want to walk alone." 0

"Then let me accompany you!" Gao Ming replied with concern. 0

"No need! I want some time alone! You should head back!" Wang Lijuan said softly. 0

"Don't be sad! You shouldn't blame yourself for what happened to Wen Sheng!" Gao Ming tried to comfort Wang Lijuan. Yes! With so many people involved, who could say whom to blame? 0

Wang Lijuan shook her head at Gao Ming and said nothing more. She walked away slowly, carefully, even though the path was flat and visible to all. It was already late, and there were few people left on the road. 0

Under the moonlight, the streetlamp cast a dim yellow glow. The wind seemed to pick up, lifting Wang Lijuan's light yellow long dress. She felt a bit cold and instinctively tugged at her pink short sleeve top. No matter how much she pulled, it still left her fair and smooth arms exposed. The rhythm of her high-heeled sandals echoed softly against the pavement. Wang Lijuan brushed her slightly tousled long hair back with her hand. Although she was not yet eighteen, she had the figure of a girl in her twenties. Bathed in moonlight, she looked beautiful. Standing at one meter sixty, with her high heels, she appeared quite graceful. 0

Seeing Wang Lijuan like this made many men feel a surge of desire. What was going on with Wen Sheng? Would he get into trouble? Wang Lijuan's mind wandered as she walked on. The streetlamp continued to cast its dim yellow light. 0

At that moment, a man stood in the middle of the road with his hands clasped behind his back, blocking her path. He smiled at her, but it was a cold smile that sent a shiver down her spine. His smile was natural and calm. 0

He looked at Wang Lijuan intently, without saying a word. He stood straight, almost rigidly so, as if his feet were firmly planted in the ground. He was confident he wouldn’t fall over. As the wind blew, some strands of hair fell across his eyes, but he didn’t bother to brush them away; he kept his hands behind his back. It was as if the wind had no effect on him, nor did the moon or the streetlamp’s light. He wore a light blue shirt and white pants. His shirt buttons were neatly fastened; many boys preferred to leave their shirts untucked, but he did not—he liked to let his shirt hang outside, swaying gently in the breeze. His clothes were somewhat worn but tidy and clean. He wasn’t very tall, and with Wang Lijuan in her high heels, she appeared to tower over him by half a head. 0

Wang Lijuan stopped in her tracks and stared at him. 0
