Wen Sheng was lost in his thoughts, unable to focus on anything serious. He had a crush on Wang Lijuan, but he needed to be honest and realistic about it! No! His mind was wandering, even thinking about his sister-in-law, and not to mention Qian and that Zhang Yun; he wanted to try his luck with them too! Wasn’t that just asking for trouble?
Later that evening, he had to arrange a date for Changqing. Here he was, without a date of his own, yet worrying about someone else's love life.
Changqing had spent a hefty sum at the Jewelry Store in town, purchasing a Green Jade bracelet. He had the shopkeeper write “00” on the tag! Crooks would always be crooks, he chuckled! He carefully placed it in a delicate Red Box and tucked it into his pocket. He felt as if his head was coated in grease. Dressed in a white shirt with blue stripes that revealed his chest, he wore it untucked. His dark green pants and brown leather shoes were complemented by bright red socks. Clutching his trusty guitar, he knocked on Wen Sheng's door just after Wen Sheng finished dinner.
“Who is it?” Wen Xin asked from the kitchen as she heard the knocking.
“It’s me! Qing Ge!” Changqing replied with a smile.
“Just come in! Why knock? Oh, you’re looking quite sharp! Did you dress up just for me?” Wen Sheng joked.
“Hehe! I really feel like Guo Fucheng!” Changqing laughed confidently.
“Looks don’t mean much; he drives a car while you’re riding a bicycle. The class difference is huge,” Wen Sheng remarked.
“Hehe!” Changqing chuckled foolishly, strumming his guitar.
“Be careful now; don’t rush things. Take it slow; women need tenderness!” Wen Sheng pretended to be wise, though he had never been with a woman himself.
“Er Ge! What are you two up to?” Wen Xin poked her head out from the kitchen.
“Nothing much! You wouldn’t understand, kid!” Changqing replied with a grin.
“Please, I know more than you think!” Wen Xin rolled her eyes.
“Ha ha, kids these days are so precocious!” Changqing laughed.
“You’re not any better; your little sprouts are about to bloom!” Wen Sheng chuckled.
“Hey! Who’s at home?” Changqing asked with a grin.
“My mom went to my aunt’s house! Wen Hao went to play cards, so it’s just Grandma, Wen Xin, and me at home!” Wen Sheng replied.
“Can I invite Lin Lin out today?” Changqing pondered.
“What’s the problem? Just seize the opportunity! What did you buy her today? Let’s see if it can make her heart flutter!” Wen Sheng asked with a smile.
“Well, I bought this for over two hundred!” Changqing said as he took out the exquisite box to show off in front of Wen Sheng.
“Oh! Let me take a look!” Wen Sheng said, curiosity piqued as he took the red box and gently opened it, breaking into a smile.
“Not bad, right?” Changqing squinted with delight.
“Not bad at all! It’s really beautiful! Worth every penny!” Wen Sheng exclaimed.
“Of course!” Changqing said proudly.
“Spending two hundred on this is definitely worth it! Ha ha…” Wen Sheng laughed.
“I really gave the jewelry seller two hundred bills,” Changqing said, putting on a serious face.
“They gave you 180 in change!” Wen Sheng laughed.
“You all come and go, but didn’t this bracelet cost zero?” Wen Xin chimed in with a smile.
“Hehe! Just don’t tell Lin Lin the truth!” Changqing joked.
“Cut it out! Do you think everyone else is a fool? Anyone who asks in the store will know!” Wen Xin replied with a grin.
“Haha! People in love are all fools!” Wen Sheng chuckled.
“Alright! Same old routine! Wen Xin, go get Lin Lin. Let’s head to our usual spot!” Wen Sheng said cheerfully.
“Why is it always me? Why don’t you ever ask me for the good stuff?” Wen Xin pretended to be reluctant.
“This is still a good thing, a chance to do some good deeds!” Changqing laughed.
“Hehe! What’s in it for me?” Wen Xin asked mischievously.
“There’s definitely something good for you!” Changqing assured her.
“Go on! Be good!” Wen Sheng coaxed her.
“Hey hey!” Wen Xin laughed and ran off.
As soon as she stepped outside, she arrived at Lin Lin's house. Just then, Lin Lin had just finished washing her hair; her hair was damp as she sat in a chair watching television, engrossed in the unfortunate show "My Fair Princess." Lin Lin's Mom was sitting next to her, both of them chatting away while watching.
“Lin Sister!” Wen Xin called out with a smile as she entered the house.
“Wen Xin! What’s up?” Lin Lin replied cheerfully.
“I need a little help with something,” Wen Xin said with a light smile.
“What is it?” Lin Lin asked, puzzled.
“Let’s go out and have some fun!” Wen Xin winked at Lin Lin.
“What’s going on?” Lin Lin inquired.
Wen Xin didn’t respond, just stood there smiling at Lin Lin. Having just washed her hair, Lin Lin was wearing minimal clothing—a tank top that revealed her smooth arms, with her curvy figure subtly visible. She wore shorts and had her legs crossed. The room was lit with a soft yellow glow, and the white walls were adorned with posters of celebrity idols, with a traditional landscape painting prominently displayed. The scenery was breathtaking! On the large purple table sat their 17-inch black-and-white television, which was still showing static, yet the two of them were thoroughly engrossed in it!
“Wait! I’m going to change my clothes!” Lin Lin said playfully, giving Wen Xin a knowing glance as she stood up.
In truth, Lin Lin already suspected that it was Changqing who wanted to invite her out again. Learning from her previous experience, she changed into a pair of long pants and tightened her belt. She also put on a red jacket. After fixing her hair in front of the mirror, she turned to Wen Xin and said, “Let’s go! Let’s see what good things you have in store!”
“Hehe!” Wen Xin chuckled.
“Mom, I’m going out for a bit!” Lin Lin called back to her mother, who was watching TV.
“Come back early!” Lin Lin's Mother advised.
Stepping outside, Lin Lin found the path a bit dark. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to adjust, but the way was still somewhat unclear. Looking up, she saw the black sky dotted with shimmering silver stars and the treetops swaying in the breeze. The gentle wind played with her slightly damp hair, releasing a soft, fragrant scent.
“What’s up?” Lin Lin asked as she glanced down at Wen Xin.
“Isn’t it just that your Changqing misses you?” Wen Xin replied in a teasing tone.
“I don’t want to go!” Lin Lin shook her head defiantly.
“Well, that’s up to you. I won’t interfere! There’s a really beautiful gift waiting, though. Just thought I’d mention it!” Wen Xin smiled playfully.
“Then I won’t go either!” Lin Lin stood there, contemplating.
