The sun had just risen, and the morning air was still cool. Wen Hao had gotten up early, dressed in a light black shirt and black pants, and he had put on a new pair of shiny leather shoes. After washing his hair and combing it neatly, he stood in the yard, breathing in the fresh air. 0

"Mom! Let's go!" Wen Hao seemed a bit anxious. 0

Wen Sheng's Mother also got up, quickly washing her face and tidying her graying hair. She wore a loose white coat and slightly faded blue pants, along with handmade cloth shoes typical of rural life. 0

"It's still early! Why are you up so soon?" Wen Sheng's Mother smiled. 0

"I couldn't sleep!" Wen Hao shivered slightly. 0

"How about we eat breakfast first? I’ll go make some!" Wen Sheng's Mother suggested with a smile. 0

"Let's eat in town!" Wen Hao proposed gently. 0

"Alright then!" Wen Sheng's Mother replied with a laugh. "Wen Xin, I'm taking your brother to Kaifeng. Remember to get up and make breakfast!" she called out to Wen Xin. 0

"Okay!" Wen Xin lazily sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes. "Mom, what time is it now?" 0

"It's still early! You can sleep a little longer. Just get up by eight!" Wen Sheng's Mother chuckled. 0

"Okay! When will you be back, Mom?" Wen Xin asked. 0

"I'll be back by the afternoon! Just go back to sleep for now!" Wen Sheng's Mother said. 0

Wen Xin straightened her back, stretched a bit, then lay back down. She pulled the blanket over herself and slowly closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep. 0

Upon arriving in Kaifeng, they went to a larger hospital. Wen Hao and his mother waited for over two hours before it was their turn. A nurse in a white coat with short hair and a white cap led them into the doctor's office. 0

An elderly gentleman, around fifty years old and resembling an expert, carefully examined Wen Hao. “This child seems to have no significant issues! It’s just…” He instructed the nurse to take Wen Hao outside and turned to Wen Hao's mother. “From his eyes, it appears that this child has experienced some kind of trauma! There might be some psychological issues. Perhaps we should do a scan to check his brain.” 0

“Doctor, do you think he can be treated?” Wen Sheng's Mother asked with a hint of worry. 0

“Absolutely! Even those with more severe conditions can be treated!” The doctor replied confidently. 0

“Take them for a scan!” the doctor instructed the nurse. 0

Wen Hao found himself glancing at the nurse’s legs as he followed her from behind. Before long, they returned to the doctor with the scan results. The doctor examined the images under the light for a moment and shook his head. “The problem isn’t too serious! Perhaps we should observe him in the hospital for a few days.” 0

“How much will that cost?” Wen Sheng's Mother asked, leaning against the table. 0

“Just over 1,000 yuan!” The doctor smiled. 0

“But we don’t have that much! I only brought about 400 yuan!” Wen Sheng's Mother replied, sounding somewhat pitiful. 0

“Well, there’s nothing we can do! The hospital has its regulations! Go home and gather some more money before coming back. In the meantime, you can take some medication!” The doctor suggested. 0

So, he provided Wen Hao with medication worth 100 yuan, and later that evening, Wen Hao and his mother returned home. 0

“Wen Xin! We’re back! Is your father at home?” Wen Sheng's Mother called out as she entered. 0

“Yes!” Wen Xin ran out from the kitchen. “Mom, how did it go? Is Big Brother alright?” Wen Xin asked. 0

“He’s fine! Just give him some medication for now!” Wen Sheng's Mother replied. 0

“How much did you spend?” Wen Sheng's Father walked out from the living room, puffing on a cigarette. 0

“Over a hundred yuan!” Wen Sheng's Mother appeared quite exhausted. 0

“Just wasting money. I don’t think he’s sick at all!” Wen Sheng's Father replied. 0

“It's not a waste! You don't know if the child is sick or not!” Wen Sheng's Grandmother interjected from the side. 0

“Alright! Is Wen Xin ready for dinner? Let’s eat first! Is Wen Sheng back yet?” Wen Sheng's Mother asked. 0

“Not yet! I’ll go check!” Wen Xin said. 0

“No need! Just wait a bit!” Wen Sheng's Mother replied. 0

“Let’s eat! No need to wait for him! He doesn’t even know it’s time for dinner!” Wen Sheng's Father insisted. 0

“The child is at school, after all!” Wen Sheng's Mother defended. 0

“What good is school? Look at those kids who don’t go to school; they can earn money for their families!” Wen Sheng's Father scoffed. 0

“I’ll go see if Er Ge is back!” Wen Xin said as she dashed outside. 0

Reaching the intersection in front of the village, memories flooded back of when she used to come here after school to pick up Er Ge. Wen Xin looked up at the darkening sky, the treetops swaying in the wind, the familiar dirt road, and the figure waiting for Er Ge to return. But now she couldn’t go to school anymore. She missed her time at school and envied the children carrying their backpacks. A sigh escaped her lips as the wind tousled her hair. 0

“Er Ge!” Wen Xin exclaimed as she spotted Wen Sheng riding his bicycle back, arms outstretched, standing in the middle of the road with a smile on his face. 0

"Wen Xin!" Wen Sheng exclaimed as he got out of the car. He reached out to hug Wen Xin and lifted her, placing her in front of the vehicle. "Why are you so heavy!" 0

"Wen Xin has gained weight! Haha!" Wen Xin turned to look at Wen Sheng, laughing cheerfully. 0

Once they arrived home, they found that dinner had already been prepared, with some food left for Wen Sheng and Wen Xin. 0

Wen Xin helped Er Ge serve the rice. They each grabbed a wooden stool and sat across from each other on a bench, exchanging smiles as if they were in a competition to finish their meal. Just as they finished eating, while Wen Xin was about to wash the pot, Lin Lin's mother walked in. "Wen Sheng, is your mom home?" 0

"Mom! My aunt is looking for you!" Wen Sheng called out from the room. 0

"What’s going on?" Wen Sheng's mother asked with a smile as she came out. 0

"Lin Lin's aunt has found her a match! A nice young man is coming over, so please help take a look!" Lin Lin's mom said excitedly. 0

"That's great news!" Wen Sheng's mother replied with a smile. "Lin Lin is such a wonderful girl; we must find her a good family!" 0

"Haha!" Lin Lin's mom laughed joyfully. 0
