Duan Xia had come to enjoy the comforts of Chen Yu's home, not to seek her own demise, and she quickly ran off with her relatives.
When one plan failed, another was devised. She called the media, sobbing and lamenting about how difficult it had been to raise Chen Yu, only for him to forget his mother now that he had become a successful entrepreneur.
When Chen Yu received the media's interview notification, he thought to himself that he hadn't done anything wrong and had nothing to fear. He couldn't let Duan Xia tarnish his reputation.
At the entrance of their community, Chen Yu and Chen Zhixing took on the interview. Duan Xia wiped her tears and spoke pitifully.
"Nobody is perfect; who hasn't made mistakes? I've already paid the price for my past errors. Why do you still hold onto them? Chen Yu, I raised you after all. You can't just abandon me because of our previous disagreements and leave me to starve on the streets!"
Chen Yu let out a few cold laughs and took out a letter.
"I admit you raised me, but you didn't earn a single penny. Everything I had was from my father. This is twenty thousand yuan for your annual support; take it wherever you want and stop bothering me."
A middle-aged mediator interjected, "Comrade, you live in such a nice house. How can you only give your mother twenty thousand yuan a year? She's your biological mother after all. Why can't you bring her back home and give her a chance to change?"
The mediator continued confidently, "Having an elder at home is like having a treasure. A harmonious family enjoying each other's company is such a wonderful thing; one should be magnanimous."
"Magnanimous?" Chen Zhixing pointed at Duan Xia angrily. "Have you ever asked her about the shameless things she's done? She pressured my son twice to take the blame for another man's child and even caused trouble at my son's girlfriend's workplace, nearly ruining her job. How can someone like that be considered a treasure? Bringing her back home would only lead to chaos!"
Chen Yu smirked with a playful expression and teased, "Since she's such a treasure, why don't you take her home?"
The mediator shook his head. "You two have such narrow minds! One should be understanding! She knows she was wrong and has promised to change. As men, you should be more forgiving."
"Forgiving, huh?" Anger surged in Chen Zhixing as he grabbed the mediator's tie and landed several punches.
Chen Yu wanted to intervene but was too late. The punches left the mediator bleeding profusely from his nose, with his nose bridge likely broken.
Everyone around stared in shock and hurriedly stepped in to separate the two.
Chen Zhixing provocatively looked at the mediator. "You said to be magnanimous, right? Now it's your turn to show some magnanimity."
The mediator wiped the blood from his face and shouted in anger.
“Dadu Nima, you hit someone, so why should I be magnanimous?”
He took out his phone and dialed the police.
“Just wait, I will make sure you go to jail.”
Chen Zhixing mocked.
“Pah! You can’t even be magnanimous yourself, what face do you have to ask others to be? Just wait and see how long I can stay in jail; when I get out, I’ll make sure to hit you every time I see you.”
His colleagues hurried to persuade the Mediator.
“First, let’s go to the hospital to treat your injuries. Besides, the whole incident of him hitting you was recorded; he can’t escape responsibility.”
Duan Xia saw that Chen Zhixing was truly ruthless and didn’t dare to mention anything about living together anymore. He took the money and left in disgrace.
Chen Zhixing was taken away by Hat Uncle.
Chen Yu couldn’t just stand by and watch his father go to jail, so he lowered his pride and accompanied the Mediator and the others to the hospital, bustling around to pay for the hospitalization.
He hoped that the Mediator would agree to a settlement.
However, that Mediator showed no gratitude at all, insisting that it was his duty and declaring he would never settle.
Seeing this situation, Chen Yu decided to bring in another media team for mediation.
Among them was a Female Mediator.
The Female Mediator sat by the bedside, speaking softly and gently persuading him.
“We should be a bit more magnanimous; you work in this field too, shouldn’t you be more generous than others? Otherwise, how can you expect others to listen to your mediation?”
The beaten Mediator shot her a fierce glare.
“How about this: I break your nose too, then you can be magnanimous once?”
The Female Mediator smiled awkwardly.
This Female Mediator had come several times but had never succeeded in mediating.
In the end, money spoke louder; Chen Yu forked out fifty thousand yuan, and finally, the Male Mediator agreed to be magnanimous.
Though there was a small hiccup, at least Duan Xia’s trouble was resolved.
Afterward, Chen Yu deposited his annual alimony directly into his bank account, giving him no chance to meet face-to-face.
As Chen Yu’s career flourished while he only received twenty thousand yuan in alimony each year, Duan Xia deeply regretted persuading him to take the blame for Xiao Jiba back then.
One evening a few years later, she squatted at the entrance of Chen Yu’s community, hoping he would give her more alimony. Chen Yu coldly replied,
“Go ahead and sue me; if you can win, I’ll pay whatever the court decides.”
Duan Xia knew very well that Chen Yu’s company had a professional legal team; she had no chance of winning a lawsuit and ultimately gave up on the idea of suing.
One morning, Xiao Jiba was sleeping in bed when someone nudged him.
"Are you going to get up or what? They're doing room checks."
Xiao Jiba groggily opened his eyes, somewhat bewildered.
"What room check? Hey, who are you? Where am I?"
Suddenly wide awake, he sat up with a jolt, looking around and screaming in shock.
"This is... a prison?"
"Congratulations, you got it right, but there’s no prize."
His roommate looked at him with a sarcastic expression.
"Stop pretending, you've been here for three years. Don't you know where you are?"
Xiao Jiba felt a chill run down his spine.
How could this be? Just last night, he had been singing at a KTV, clearly spending an unforgettable night with a charming girl from the club. How did he wake up in prison?
Was he still dreaming from drinking too much last night?
He slapped himself hard several times and finally confirmed that this was not a dream.
The whole situation sent shivers down his spine.
What on earth was happening?
He began to recall the events, but his memories were jumbled. As he pieced things together, he felt cold from head to toe, his face turning as pale as paper.
"Has my life been stolen?"
Comparing his former life with his current memories, he realized he hadn’t impersonated Chen Yu to go to college.
Nor had he taken over his Fresh Flower Farm; in fact, Chen Yu hadn’t even started a flower farm at all.
After careful consideration, Xiao Jiba found the reason: Chen Yu hadn’t taken the fall for him and gone to prison instead.
"You son of a bitch."
Xiao Jiba frowned deeply.
"That idiot didn’t cover for me? And that useless mother of mine—she’s truly the worst of the worst. If that fool didn’t cover for me, couldn’t she have done it instead?"
"If she had covered for me, how could I be stuck in this hellhole? Liu Ru Yan, you’re something else—betraying me and making me a father! Just wait; I’m going to set everything back on track."
