I feel like something is wrong with my mind.
A story of a cheating scumbag and his mistress has turned into a tale of blood relations?
I can't believe it.
This must be a huge lie, so I hid away, letting the distant sound of crashing waves roll in, stirring up chaos within me.
What if,
What if they really are mother and son? What if Gu Yanshen didn’t cheat?
But,
But their affair has already been blown up by public opinion!
Who in the industry doesn’t know, except for those brainless fans?
Gu Yanshen and the media mogul are related by blood? I don’t believe it. I need to confront Gu Yanshen and get an explanation!
I knocked on Gu Yanshen's door. He looked like he had been waiting for me for a long time; his face was haggard, yet his eyes sparkled with energy.
“Xin Xin,” he called my name in a low, husky voice.
I felt a wave of anxiety wash over me, my heart racing uncomfortably. I rolled my eyes at him and asked:
"I need an explanation, Gu Yanshen. I need to hear it for 23-year-old Lin Xin."
Gu Yanshen shrank his head, now looking quite pitiful, trying to evoke my sympathy.
From his narrative, I somewhat believed in their parent-child relationship and understood the antics he had been up to.
His mother, Ms. Zhang Xiaofeng, was attractive but came from a poor background, with low education. After growing up, she left her hometown to work in the city and later married Gu Yanshen's father. He was also good-looking but poor and honest.
Unable to endure the hardships of poverty, when Gu Yanshen was five years old, his mother secretly ran away to live under an alias and sought out wealthy men. After enrolling in several socialite classes and enduring over a decade of struggle, she eventually became the mistress of the media giant Wang Group's CEO. In the end, I don't know what methods she used, but she managed to rise to a prominent position.
After the CEO of Wang Group passed away, it was Wang's Eldest Son who took over the company, and he happened to be the same scoundrel who had once attempted to assault me.
Wang Group had a long-standing presence in the film and television industry and held a leading position in the circle. Its entertainment subsidiary was a major pillar of the group.
Ms. Zhang Xiaofeng, for some reason, decided she wanted to bring down Wang's Eldest Son and chose to target the entertainment sector.
Coincidentally, the company had just signed new talent, and upon seeing one of them, Ms. Zhang realized it was her long-abandoned biological son.
Seizing the opportunity, she conspired with Gu Yanshen under the pretense of being involved romantically with him to meddle in various affairs of the entertainment company. On one hand, she used her guise as an older woman in love to lower Master Wang's guard while repeatedly revealing some foolish maneuvers that played into their act.
On the other hand, she employed some unknown tactics to gather a multitude of competitors to collectively devour the entertainment company, orchestrating a strategy aimed at mutual destruction rather than allowing anyone to thrive.
Listening closely, I thought unless Wang's Eldest Son was utterly incompetent, these tricks were nothing more than a joke when it came to moving capital.
However, Gu Yanshen seemed full of confidence as he said, "Just wait, Xin Xin. You only need to wait a few more days for results."
I scoffed, showing my indifference, but with a hint of confusion, I asked him,
"Have you finished explaining?"
He paused for a moment, sensing that my reaction wasn't as smooth as he had anticipated.
I continued, "So why did you break up with me? To play the lover with your mother?"
Just as he was about to respond, I suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me.
"Forget it. You didn't explain back then, so why bother explaining now?"
I was tired. I didn't give him a chance to keep me from leaving; I simply walked out of his room.
What a joke! It was all a joke—my nearly obsessive struggles and pain were nothing but a farce.
I was exhausted!
I numbly walked back to my room, buried my head in the pillow, and fell asleep.
