Shi Ge did not deceive her; Qing Xue's presence seeped into her body, and she felt as if the pain had lessened.
Nan Jing looked down at Yun Zhi Yue, who was barefoot and frowning. He picked her up with one arm and carried her upstairs. Had she had a nightmare, or was she feeling unwell?
Once inside the room, Nan Jing carefully wiped her feet and then tucked her into bed, wrapping his arms around her while gently patting her back to soothe her. "Don't want to talk about it?"
Yun Zhi Yue pulled at Nan Jing's nightshirt and buried her little head inside it. In a muffled voice, she said, "Nan Jing, I had a nightmare. In my dream, I really liked someone, but in the end, I was abandoned. He destroyed me with his own hands, and I woke up in pain."
Nan Jing pulled the blanket over both of them. His tone wasn't particularly gentle, yet it somehow brought a sense of calm. "So that was just a dream. In reality, you are a cherished little princess. You have a loving mother and a partner who adores you. With your noble background, you will live well."
Yun Zhi Yue lifted her head, revealing eyes filled with grievance as she stared at Nan Jing's chin. After a long pause, she asked, "Nan Jing, what if I betray you? Would you be very sad?"
"I would be," he replied firmly. "So don't do that."
Suddenly, she felt that planning to max out her affection points and then run away was a bit too much. In this lifetime, Nan Jing truly loved her; his affection for her was evident. If she acted that way, wouldn't it make her just like him?
"Shi Ge, how about I spend this life well with Nan Jing? I'm here to save him; even if he's a big shot, he shouldn't hold that against me afterward."
"Everything has its purpose; my goal is to collect the Soul Fragment. You handle your own matters."
Yun Zhi Yue opened her mouth but swallowed back her words. No, she needed to think carefully before acting; something felt off today. She needed to clear her mind first.
She buried her head back into his chest, blinked twice with her little lips, and drifted off to sleep contentedly.
That night, Yun Zhi Yue slept soundly, so much so that she forgot this was the Nan Family's residence and not their small apartment.
In the morning, sunlight streamed gently through the curtain gaps onto her small face. Yun Zhi Yue blinked her eyelashes and slowly opened her starry eyes.
Not noticing anything amiss, she found that Nan Jing was not beside her. Still groggy, she climbed out of bed and opened the door to head downstairs.
As she walked while rubbing her eyes, she called out, "Nan Jing! What did you make for breakfast? I want to eat!"
Yun Zhi Yue rubbed her eyes, her hand frozen in place as she stood on the last step of the staircase, wearing pajamas and sporting a messy bun.
Nan Mu, holding a newspaper, wore a teasing smile, while Nan Jing, neatly dressed and sipping coffee, cast her a glance.
With a grin, Nan Mu asked, "What do you want for breakfast, Yun Zhi Yue? I’ll have Nan Jing make you something special."
Yun Zhi Yue's face turned bright red. She covered her head and dashed outside, repeatedly telling herself, "This is a dream, this is a dream!"
"Hahaha, this little girl is quite amusing. But you two have been engaged for a while now; haven’t you discussed when to get married? I’d like to hold my grandson sooner rather than later," Nan Mu remarked, glancing at his son with a probing look.
Seeing that Nan Jing remained silent, Nan Mu squinted and continued, "That Zhou Yu kid just got out of the hospital. His mother is forcing him to go on blind dates. Apparently, he’s very resistant and outright said he doesn’t want a girlfriend."
His mother was shocked and believed that the incident during the kidnapping left Zhou Yu traumatized. She was currently looking for a psychologist for him.
However, it didn’t seem to be effective; rumors had already spread that Zhou Yu wasn’t getting better and that Yun Zhi Yue would have to marry him to take responsibility.
Nan Jing scoffed, "She can’t do that. I’ll bring up the topic of marriage when the time is right. Now it’s time to get back to work."
