Chen Rui finally escaped the factory amidst the chaos, knowing that this was just the beginning. The footsteps behind him and the hurried breaths in his ears were the summons of death. The city’s neon lights above had become blurred after the explosion, with only the distant flames and echoes reminding him that the fate of the Special Zone had quietly changed. 0

Eileen was waiting ahead, her figure flickering in the shadows of an abandoned warehouse. When Chen Rui lunged to her side, he was already gasping for breath, covered in blood, yet his gaze remained as resolute as iron. "We need to leave here immediately," Chen Rui panted. "The Old Man won’t let us take that data." 0

Eileen pulled out a miniature display from her backpack, operating it rapidly. The screen showed a map marking their current location and several nearby safe evacuation points. "We need to go through the underground tunnel," she whispered. "There are old spies and surveillance cameras there; it’s our only escape route." 0

Chen Rui nodded and quickly took her hand, both of them moving swiftly along the path indicated on the map. 0

However, fate seemed to enjoy playing tricks. Just as they were about to reach the tunnel entrance, a roar of vehicles shattered the night’s silence. Several armored vehicles came rushing from afar, their bright lights cutting through the darkness like scythes of death, illuminating their escape route. 0

"They're here!" Eileen's face turned pale, a glimmer of despair flashing in her eyes. "There’s no time!" 0

Chen Rui didn’t look back; he knew that every second of hesitation could mean death. "Quick, hide!" He yanked Eileen into a dilapidated building, using all his strength to crash through a broken window. 0

Inside was pitch black, with discarded wooden crates and scattered mechanical parts strewn across the floor. They lay flat on the ground, holding their breath as they waited for everything outside to settle. Through a gap in the torn curtains, Chen Rui saw those armored vehicles come to a swift halt, soldiers jumping out and beginning their search for them. 0

"They really know we would escape this way," Eileen whispered, her face ashen. "We have nowhere else to go; we can’t get too far." 0

Chen Rui clenched his fists tightly, suppressing his inner anger and anxiety. He understood that if they continued like this, they would fall into complete despair. "No, we can’t give up!" he said softly. "We need to buy some time at least; let’s find another way out." 0

The soldiers’ search gradually approached their abandoned building, and it seemed they were about to enter Chen Rui's hiding place. Just then, a sharp alarm suddenly blared, illuminating the entire Area with bright lights as soldiers rushed toward the source of the alarm. 0

Chen Rui and Eileen exchanged glances, realizing that an opportunity had arisen. "Now!" Chen Rui commanded in a low voice. 0

They quickly dashed out of the abandoned building and hid behind an old truck, stealthily making their way toward the underground passage. The alarm grew louder, drawing all soldiers' attention to its source; this chaos provided them with a brief chance to breathe. 0

The entrance to the underground tunnel was beside an abandoned factory. Chen Rui and Eileen cautiously approached it; however, just as they crossed an iron gate, they suddenly heard hurried footsteps behind them. 0

Turning around, they saw several soldiers wearing black masks appearing near the tunnel entrance—clearly tracking them down. 0

"Quick!" Eileen already pulled Chen Rui inside. Once in the tunnel, darkness enveloped them instantly; they could see nothing at all. Relying on long-held experience, Chen Rui had memorized the layout of these complex underground tunnels. 0

However, this tunnel was not as safe as they had anticipated. At its end stood a clearly blocked-off Area. Chen Rui abruptly stopped in his tracks; Eileen followed closely behind him and looked at the solid wall ahead with tightening anxiety: this wasn’t an exit to the outside. 0

"Let’s check it out anyway." Chen Rui pushed hard against an iron door beside the wall; inside was a makeshift monitoring room with screens displaying constantly changing images of streets, buildings, and underground facilities throughout the Special Zone. This was a surveillance system—its existence meant that the Old Man had long since controlled all movements within the city. 0

Chen Rui's expression darkened suddenly as he realized that if they stayed here any longer, they would likely fall into an even greater predicament. Just then, hurried footsteps echoed from afar again—those pursuers were closing in. 0

"We don’t have time." Eileen's voice trembled slightly with urgency. "We must find another way out." 0

Without hesitation, Chen Rui pressed an emergency button on the wall; immediately, a concealed exit appeared at the other end of the tunnel. They exchanged glances filled with urgency—Old Man's shadow loomed closer and closer; they were trapped in a deadly cycle. 0

"Go!" Chen Rui whispered urgently and led the charge down that passageway. They knew that if they didn’t move now, their chance for escape would vanish forever. 0
