The night breeze swept through the abandoned industrial area, carrying with it the scent of rust and dust. Chen Rui and Erin ran through the darkness, ahead lay a narrow path overgrown with weeds, leading to the outskirts beyond the industrial zone. The echoes of explosions still rang in their ears, and Zhao Qifeng's figure remained vivid in their minds, but they had no time to dwell on emotions; they could only move forward to fulfill the opportunity he had bought with his life. 0

"We're almost there! The outskirts are just ahead!" Erin gasped, her eyes sparkling with hope. 0

But just as they were about to reach the suburban area, a low rumble of engines suddenly filled the air from all directions. Chen Rui halted, listening to the unusual sound, his heart sinking. 0

"Are they already on our trail?" Erin's face paled as she scanned their surroundings. It was clear that the Old Forces were still unwilling to let them go. 0

Chen Rui took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm. "It seems they've figured out our escape route from the explosion site and set up a perimeter here. We need to find a new way out." 0

The two quickly surveyed their surroundings; the desolate industrial area was littered with dilapidated factories, their walls peeling with paint, and most doors and windows sealed shut, leaving them seemingly trapped. 0

"We can use the complex structure of these abandoned buildings to throw them off our trail," Chen Rui whispered, his mind racing with plans. 0

Erin nodded and followed closely as he led her into a side factory. The layout was intricate, with corridors and equipment rooms intertwining like a maze. Chen Rui and Erin navigated carefully, keeping their footsteps light to avoid making any noise. 0

"Let’s stay here for a moment until they leave," Chen Rui said softly, pulling her into a corner piled high with discarded machinery. 0

They held their breath in silence, the surroundings so still it felt as if even the air had frozen. After a moment, faint footsteps approached; the enemy seemed to be closing in on their hiding spot. 0

Chen Rui gripped his dagger tightly, his eyes filled with vigilance. He knew that once they were exposed, they would be in dire straits; all they could do was remain calm and wait for a moment of carelessness from their pursuers. 0

At that moment, an old light bulb overhead flickered several times before plunging them into darkness. Chen Rui and Erin exchanged tense glances; while the darkness concealed their movements, it also meant they could not see the enemy's actions—danger could strike at any moment. 0

Suddenly, a low metallic clank echoed from deep within the factory, breaking the silence. The enemy seemed to sense something amiss; their footsteps paused before shifting toward the source of the sound. 0

Seizing the opportunity, Chen Rui gently pulled Erin along as they slowly moved away from their original spot toward another side of the factory. They felt their way through the dark, navigating narrow corridors and abandoned equipment rooms without making a sound. 0

After turning a corner, they came upon an old wooden door covered in rust and looking long neglected. Chen Rui pushed against it but found it jammed and unable to open fully. 0

"Let me try," Erin whispered as she pulled out a small tool from her waist and inserted it into the gap of the door lock. After several attempts, she finally managed to loosen it enough for both of them to squeeze into the small room behind it. 0

Once inside, Erin wedged a wooden stick against the door to prevent any intruders from pushing it open. The room was dimly lit but they could make out stacks of wooden crates and metal barrels—it appeared to be an abandoned storage room. 0

"We're safe for now," Chen Rui sighed in relief but remained highly alert. 0

Erin found a piece of rag on the floor and wrapped it around her arm where she had scraped herself. Although they had gained a momentary respite, she knew this safety was temporary; the enemy could come after them again at any moment. 0

"How powerful are the Old Forces?" Erin couldn't help but ask quietly, fatigue and unease evident in her eyes. 0

Chen Rui paused for a moment before replying softly: "The Old Power has its hands everywhere in this Special Zone—from police to gangs, all are under his control. He not only commands an extensive intelligence network but has also placed his men in key positions. Because of this, every step we take may be monitored." 0

Erin gritted her teeth, determination shining in her eyes: "No matter what happens, we must expose his crimes and seek justice for Zhao Qifeng and all innocent lives." 0
