Chen Rui nodded, but before he could speak, a rapid sound of footsteps echoed from outside the small house. The enemies had already found their location! 0

"They're nearby, search quickly!" The voices outside grew louder, indicating that the enemies had begun to check each room one by one. 0

Eileen tightened her grip on the small knife, her expression tense. Chen Rui, however, remained calm as he contemplated their next move, his gaze scanning the surroundings until it landed on a vent in the back wall of the storage room. 0

"Follow me," Chen Rui whispered, pointing at the vent. "We can crawl out through here." 0

Eileen looked up; although the vent was small, it was just big enough for them to squeeze through. She nodded and quickly climbed onto a metal rack, using both hands and feet to crawl into the vent while trying to keep quiet. 0

Just as they entered the vent, the door of the small house was slammed open, and the enemies rushed in, searching for any sign of them. Fortunately, since they were already inside the vent, the enemies failed to spot them at that moment. 0

"We need to escape as soon as we get out," Chen Rui said urgently to Eileen in a low voice. 0

Eileen nodded in response and carefully followed Chen Rui as they crawled through the narrow vent. The air inside was hot and stifling, making it hard to breathe, but they gritted their teeth and pushed forward slowly. 0

After crawling for about ten minutes, a faint light finally appeared ahead—the exit of the vent. Chen Rui peeked out and saw that they were in an open area surrounded by scattered weeds and debris. 0

"We're safe now; come out," Chen Rui said as he turned back to Eileen and then squeezed out of the vent first. 0

Eileen followed closely behind, and they both carefully jumped down to the ground, quickly surveying their surroundings. Although the area was desolate, there were no enemies in sight for now; it seemed they had finally earned a moment to catch their breath. 0

"We're not far from the Special Zone border," Chen Rui said quietly, a glimmer of hope igniting within him. As long as they could cross this wasteland, they could temporarily escape from their pursuers. 0

Eileen nodded, a weary yet determined smile appearing on her face. After this escape attempt, her strength was nearly depleted, but she knew there was no turning back; they had to keep moving forward. 0

The two of them made their way across the wasteland toward the border. Soon after, under the cover of nightfall, they could faintly see the outline of the border ahead. The Special Zone border was a tall wall topped with barbed wire and surveillance cameras. However, at one corner of the wall, there appeared to be a section of damaged wire—a potential opportunity for them to escape from the Special Zone. 0

"We can crawl out through that damaged section," Chen Rui said decisively as he pointed at the gap in the border. 0

Eileen took a deep breath and replied, "Let's go quickly; this might be our only chance." 0

They approached the border cautiously, careful not to make a sound. Just as they were about to reach the gap, a beam of bright light suddenly swept over them from a distance, exposing their figures in its glare. 0

"Stop! Don't move!" A furious shout rang out from afar, followed by the sound of guns being cocked. 0

Chen Rui and Eileen instantly became alert and quickened their pace toward the gap in the border. Gunfire erupted behind them as bullets kicked up dust near their feet, barely missing them. 0

"Faster! We're almost there!" Chen Rui shouted hoarsely as he urged Eileen on with all his strength toward the opening. Their hearts raced like drums; all they could see was that gap ahead—seemingly a door to freedom and hope. 0

In a moment of desperation, they burst through the gap and jumped outside the border. The gunfire faded into the distance behind them as the walls of the Special Zone grew increasingly blurred. 0

Finally, they stood outside the Special Zone under a vast sky filled with stars—a welcoming embrace of freedom awaited them. 0
