As night deepened, the Alliance's stronghold lay in eerie silence, as if it had truly become the empty shell described by Old Hand. In the early hours of the morning, a squad of soldiers clad in black uniforms stealthily infiltrated the base; it was Hound and his men. They moved cautiously, remaining on high alert, clearly accustomed to operating in the dark.
As Hound led his team closer to the center of the stronghold, Chen Rui signaled for his teammates to enter combat mode. The ambushed members of the Alliance gripped their weapons tightly, holding their breath in anticipation.
Just as Hound was about to issue the command to attack, Chen Rui decisively fired his weapon. The gunshot shattered the stillness of the night like thunder tearing through darkness. Immediately, the Alliance's ambush opened fire, striking down several enemy soldiers in an instant.
Hound reacted swiftly, leading his men to seek cover and attempting to regroup. However, the Alliance's firepower was overwhelming; they were unable to retaliate. After several minutes of intense gunfire, Hound's squad was nearly annihilated, with only a handful captured by the Alliance.
Chen Rui stepped forward and coldly regarded the wounded Hound. "You keep sending people to probe us; you underestimate the strength of the Alliance."
A flicker of defiance flashed in Hound's eyes. He did not respond but instead let out a cold laugh. "Your resistance is merely a dying struggle; Old will not allow you to succeed."
Ignoring his taunts, Chen Rui gestured for his team to take Hound away. The members of the Alliance viewed this victory as a significant blow against Old Forces, their morale soaring. However, Chen Rui understood that the real battle was yet to come.
At that moment, Old received news of the defeat. His face darkened with rage and frustration. Hound's failure made him realize that the Alliance was no longer an enemy he could easily handle.
"It seems I have indeed underestimated their resolve," Old muttered to himself before revealing a cold smile. "In that case, let them experience true despair."
He ordered all troops within Special Zone to be mobilized and contacted other factions to prepare for a full-scale purge. He intended to gather the strongest forces available to completely annihilate the Alliance without leaving any room for survival.
Meanwhile, the upper echelons of the Alliance recognized that Special Zone was about to face an unprecedented war. Chen Rui gathered with Erin, Zhao Yunshan, and others to strategize defensive lines in preparation for Old's final strike.
Erin spoke solemnly, "According to intelligence, Old will mobilize all available forces against us this time; he clearly intends to go all in."
Zhao Yunshan nodded in agreement. "This is our most challenging moment yet, but also our closest point to victory. If we can withstand this assault, Old will be left powerless."
Taking a deep breath, Chen Rui calmly stated, "Old's power is indeed formidable; he is at his wits' end. In this decisive battle, we must be prepared for the worst."
The members of the Alliance began bustling about, constructing defensive fortifications and setting various traps and obstacles in anticipation of the impending fierce battle. Throughout Special Zone's streets and alleys, civilians began spontaneously supporting the Alliance—some transporting supplies while others provided intelligence—all preparing for one last fight for freedom.
In the night sky over Special Zone, the flames of rebellion grew ever brighter, as if heralding an approaching storm.
