During an emergency meeting, Chen Rui and Erin reported their findings to the Security Committee of the Special Zone. After revealing the connections between a Senior Commander and the Shadow Alliance, Chen Rui spoke candidly: if they could not uncover the dark truths behind this situation in time, the defenses of the Special Zone would be thoroughly paralyzed, leaving all security measures under enemy control.
However, despite most people recognizing the urgency of the situation, one problem remained unresolved: there was not enough evidence to prove that the Commander had direct ties to hostile forces. This led to divisions in attitudes; some high-ranking officials were hesitant about further actions, believing that the current evidence was still too ambiguous and that rash actions could lead to greater chaos.
"We cannot take risks," a Senior Officer said with a furrowed brow. "If we mistakenly accuse an important figure within the Special Zone, it could trigger a larger internal conflict, plunging the entire area into turmoil."
Chen Rui's expression darkened as unease settled in his heart. He understood that the harder it was to immediately prove a connection between the Commander and the Shadow Alliance, the more likely it was that their enemies were intentionally sowing discord and confusion. The enemy was waiting for them to make a mistake, and every decision they made could become a fatal turning point.
"If we cannot find a breakthrough through evidence, perhaps we can start from analyzing enemy action patterns," Erin suddenly suggested, her eyes shining with determination. "We can monitor this Commander's movements and see if we can uncover more clues from his contacts."
Chen Rui nodded in agreement; this might be their only way to bypass traps set by their enemies and proceed with their next steps without solid evidence. Although the risks were enormous, this lead could potentially unveil deeper truths.
In the following days, Chen Rui and Erin closely monitored the Commander's whereabouts, managing to mobilize resources within the Special Zone for covert surveillance. After analyzing this information, Erin immediately confirmed that this location highly overlapped with known activities of the Shadow Alliance.
"This time, he definitely did not follow normal procedures," Erin said with tension in her voice. "He went there; something must be wrong."
Chen Rui realized they had finally found a breakthrough. Although there was still no direct evidence, the Commander's actions were suspicious enough that they needed to act quickly to thwart any further plans from their enemies.
They decided to secretly track the Commander's itinerary and infiltrate using all available means to ensure they could find any clues that might reveal enemy conspiracies. To avoid raising suspicion, Chen Rui and Erin agreed to split up, pretending to have different missions while exploiting vulnerabilities within the Special Zone to blend into areas near the Forbidden Zone.
Once they successfully entered the Forbidden Zone's perimeter, alarms suddenly blared throughout Area as security protocols rapidly activated, sealing off all exits. Chen Rui and Erin were forced to scatter to avoid being caught in the lockdown; however, this also meant they completely lost contact with each other.
In the ensuing moments, Chen Rui found himself in an even more complex situation. The facilities within the Forbidden Zone were not as straightforward as he had anticipated; instead, they were filled with various defenses and traps. With every step he took, hidden dangers seemed to lurk ahead. Whether encountering passive surveillance paths or occasionally crossing paths with patrols from the Special Zone only deepened his awareness that he had stepped into a web already laid out.
Just as he prepared to seek new breakthroughs, Chen Rui suddenly spotted an inconspicuous metal door. Low whispers emanated from behind it; it seemed several individuals were discussing something important. Quickly slipping into shadowed concealment, he observed what transpired inside.
Through a crack in the door, he saw several middle-aged men in plain clothes speaking in hushed tones. Their words were filled with mentions of the Commander, and what he heard sent shockwaves through him—they were discussing how to expedite plans for the Shadow Alliance while even contemplating how to utilize resources from the Special Zone to strengthen external control.
These individuals were not enemies but high-ranking officials within the Special Zone itself; they not only provided intelligence to adversaries but also secretly collaborated with the Shadow Alliance in preparation for deeper conspiracies.
These people must be exposed. Chen Rui whispered resolutely to himself. He finally understood that the crisis facing the Special Zone stemmed not only from external threats but also from internal corruption and betrayal—this was truly at its core.
