Chen Rui and Lin Xi quickly rolled to the sides, narrowly avoiding the sniper's bullets. The sound of gunfire echoed through the narrow alley, the reverberations deafening. The sniper was clearly a trained professional, his aim precise, with rapid and fierce shots, each bullet carrying a deadly threat.
Taking advantage of the sniper's brief moment to reload, Chen Rui swiftly counterattacked, firing several shots in the direction of the sniper. Although he couldn't hit directly, he managed to force the sniper to retreat slightly. At the same time, Lin Xi was not idle; she quickly drew her pistol, moving closer to Bai Ge, hoping to subdue him.
However, Bai Ge reacted like lightning. As Lin Xi approached, he dodged aside and sneered, "The minions of the Special Zone are nothing but a joke. You think you can catch me? Dream on!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Bai Ge suddenly threw a small smoke bomb, and thick smoke instantly filled the alley, completely obscuring their vision. Chen Rui and Lin Xi quickly covered their mouths and noses with their hands, but in the smoke, the enemy's figure became blurred and indistinct, making it impossible to lock onto him accurately.
"He wants to escape!" Lin Xi exclaimed urgently, her eyes filled with frustration.
"Don't panic; we won't let him get far," Chen Rui replied calmly. He quickly ordered through his earpiece: "All units, target Bai Ge is attempting to escape through the smoke. Seal off all exits; do not let him leave the alley!"
Upon receiving the command, the team members swiftly took action, blocking all exits and forming a tight encirclement. Bai Ge's escape routes were continuously cut off as the smoke gradually dissipated, allowing Chen Rui and Lin Xi's vision to clear.
Just as they prepared to continue their pursuit, a sudden engine roar echoed from the end of the alley. A black SUV came roaring in and stopped right in front of Bai Ge. The driver leaned out of the window and waved at Bai Ge urgently, shouting, "Get in!"
Bai Ge sneered and turned to dive into the SUV. Realizing the urgency of the situation, Chen Rui immediately shouted to his team: "Stop that vehicle! We cannot let them take Bai Ge away!"
The team members raised their weapons and aimed precisely at the SUV's tires, trying to intercept it. However, it was clear that their opponents were well-prepared; the SUV's tires seemed armored against bullets and did not easily puncture. The vehicle suddenly accelerated, crashing through debris blocking the alley exit with unstoppable force.
"Lin Xi, get in and chase!" Chen Rui commanded. He and Lin Xi quickly jumped into a backup vehicle parked at the alley entrance, starting the engine and closely following the SUV.
On the street, a high-speed chase ensued between the two vehicles. In the night, their headlights flashed as the SUV zigzagged through congested streets in an attempt to shake off its pursuers. Chen Rui focused intently ahead while rapidly analyzing the terrain and directing Lin Xi to seize opportunities for shooting.
"Aim for the left rear tire! If we can just slightly deflect it..." Chen Rui instructed.
Lin Xi nodded, calmly adjusting her angle before pulling the trigger. With a sharp crack of gunfire, a screeching sound erupted from the SUV's rear tire as it skidded slightly off course. However, the driver quickly regained control and continued forward.
As they closed in on each other bit by bit, Chen Rui's eyes gleamed with determination. He suddenly accelerated his vehicle until its front nearly touched the rear bumper of the SUV in an attempt to create friction and force it to stop.
"Lin Xi, get ready!" Chen Rui shouted just as the SUV abruptly slammed on its brakes and sharply turned down a narrow side street. Chen Rui was forced to slam on his brakes to avoid losing control.
The SUV sped into darkness ahead as it seemed ready to escape. Just then, a roaring sound from afar echoed—a searchlight from a Rising Machine illuminated their path from above. The Rising Machine provided Chen Rui with a new opportunity.
"They have nowhere to run now!" Lin Xi said with a hint of excitement in her voice.
The searchlight firmly locked onto the SUV, making its movements increasingly difficult. The driver seemed to realize that escape was futile; he sped into an abandoned industrial area before suddenly stopping. Bai Ge and his driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled.
"Quick! Follow them!" Chen Rui shouted as he and Lin Xi immediately exited their vehicle and pursued them on foot.
In the abandoned buildings, Chen Rui moved cautiously forward while remaining vigilant about every corner. They knew that their opponents might have set up an ambush; one misstep could lead them into danger. Lin Xi followed closely behind Chen Rui; together they coordinated perfectly as they advanced toward their target step by step.
Footsteps and whispers echoed from within one of the derelict buildings—Bai Ge and his driver were clearly discussing how to escape further. Chen Rui crouched low and stealthily approached them with a tranquilizer gun aimed at Bai Ge before pulling the trigger.
The tranquilizer dart struck Bai Ge's shoulder unexpectedly; he lost his balance and stumbled to the ground. Seeing this, his driver panicked and drew his handgun in an attempt to retaliate. However, Lin Xi had already occupied a favorable position; she quickly fired her weapon, disarming him before he could react.
"Don't move!" Chen Rui barked coldly, restraining Bai Ge and the driver.
Bai Ge's face turned pale as he glared at Chen Rui, his eyes filled with resentment and defiance. "You dogs of the Special Zone think capturing me will end everything? The undercurrents won't rest; you will pay the price!"
Chen Rui snorted, his voice resolute. "The peace of the Special Zone is not something you can easily disrupt. Today, by capturing you, the Underflow Plan will suffer a fatal blow."
Lin Xi stepped forward, binding Bai Ge and the driver's hands behind their backs to ensure they could no longer struggle. She turned to Chen Rui, her gaze reflecting a mix of relief and exhaustion. "This operation is finally over; at least it gives the Special Zone a chance to breathe."
Chen Rui nodded, taking a deep breath as he looked at Bai Ge with a cold smile. "Don't think this is the end. We will completely dismantle your organization. The safety of the Special Zone will not be left in your reckless hands."
Bai Ge remained silent, a cold smile on his lips, yet his eyes were still filled with hostility. In his silence lay a hint of a greater conspiracy, as if he were waiting for another opportunity.
