This operation was particularly covert, with the Special Zone deploying elite troops to ensure strict security. However, just as the Squad was about to reach the trading location, the Dark Stream seemed to sense their movements, and the time and place of the transaction were suddenly changed. Chen Rui and Lin Xi quickly adjusted their plans and, after several twists and turns in their investigation, finally located the secret trading point of the Dark Stream: an abandoned chemical factory.
When the Squad arrived, they found the factory surrounded by armed personnel from the Dark Stream, heavily guarded. After observing the situation, Chen Rui realized that the defenses here were more formidable than any previous stronghold, indicating that this was clearly one of the core bases of the Dark Stream.
Under Lin Xi's cover, Chen Rui led the Squad into the factory's interior, discovering that it was not just a trading post but also a makeshift laboratory filled with various experimental equipment and drugs. The air inside was thick with a pungent chemical smell, clearly indicating numerous unfinished experiments.
Deep within the factory, Chen Rui stumbled upon a sealed room with a tightly shut door plastered with warning signs. Through a small window on the door, he saw several Experiment Subjects bound in bandages. Their figures were abnormally tall and muscular, with vacant expressions that exuded a dangerous aura, as if they could erupt at any moment.
Lin Xi whispered, "These must be the so-called Abyss Warrior samples."
At that moment, a surveillance camera in the room suddenly activated, followed by an alarm blaring throughout the factory. The armed personnel from the Dark Stream quickly surrounded the Squad's position, escalating the tension to its peak.
Chen Rui remained calm and directed his Squad to take defensive positions using nearby cover. Meanwhile, he attempted to contact external support; however, the factory's jamming signal system disrupted communications. They found themselves isolated and helpless.
Just as they prepared to break through, one of the Abyss Warrior samples inside the room let out a low growl and broke free from its restraints. The sample's strength was immense as it tore open the laboratory door and charged out of the room, immediately attacking the armed personnel from the Dark Stream, plunging everything into chaos.
Seeing this unfold, Chen Rui realized they could use these Abyss Warriors to create even greater confusion and buy time for their escape. He quickly signaled for his Squad to retreat amidst the chaos. However, things became more dangerous than anticipated as more Abyss Warriors were awakened and burst out of their confinement, attacking everything in sight without discrimination.
In the midst of this melee, Chen Rui and Lin Xi led their Squad in a tactical retreat while utilizing the cluttered laboratory and corridors to gradually approach an exit. Just as they reached it, they encountered a heavily fortified team of Dark Stream Elites blocking their way.
The Dark Current Elite Captain sneered at Chen Rui: "You certainly have guts; today is your last day."
After a brief standoff between both sides, intense gunfire erupted. Chen Rui and Lin Xi calmly directed their team members to use abandoned equipment and cover within the factory to engage with the Dark Stream Elites. Although outnumbered, thanks to the chaos caused by the Abyss Warriors, attention was diverted from them, creating some opportunities for escape.
Just when it seemed they were about to be completely surrounded, an explosion suddenly rocked the area. The massive tremor caused everything in the factory to shake violently. It was Lin Xi’s pre-set directional Explosive Device that had destroyed key structural supports within the factory.
Taking advantage of the momentary shock among the Dark Current Guards caused by the explosion, Chen Rui commanded his Squad to swiftly break through a side door and escape from the factory, following their pre-planned retreat route into the night.
Upon returning to base, Director Zhao learned of all details regarding this operation and praised Chen Rui and Lin Xi for their performance. Although they had not completely dismantled a Dark Stream stronghold during this mission, they had successfully gathered crucial information about both Abyss Warriors and the Abyss Project that would provide valuable intelligence for future counterattacks by the Special Zone.
Lin Feng, being the only defector among scientists, was also placed under special protection. According to his further testimony, he revealed that Dark Stream's current plan had entered its final stages; they were simultaneously conducting human body modification experiments in underground laboratories across multiple cities with aims to produce batches of Abyss Warriors for a swift offensive.
Chen Rui realized that time was running out for them. The Dark Stream’s influence was deeply entrenched; their plans were insidious and malicious. Once implemented, the Abyss Project could plunge not only the Special Zone but also broader areas into endless turmoil and fear.
Director Zhao patted Chen Rui on his shoulder and said solemnly: "Chen Rui, this will be a tough battle; Special Zone needs your strength. The Dark Stream's conspiracy will not succeed; we must do everything we can to prevent the implementation of the Abyss Project."
Chen Rui nodded firmly, determination shining in his eyes: "Don't worry; we will do our utmost to ensure that Dark Stream does not prevail."
