"Scatter!" Chen Rui shouted, and the three quickly dispersed, trying to evade the deadly strike. The blade slammed into the ground, sending shards of stone flying. Seizing the opportunity, Chen Rui launched an attack from the side, firing several shots at the warrior's leg joints, but the bullets merely sparked off without inflicting any real damage.
Its armor is stronger! Chen Rui gritted his teeth.
Lin Xi calmly searched for a weakness in the warrior while using her communicator to report to Director Zhao: A new model has appeared, it's agile and has enhanced armor. Requesting long-range fire support!
Director Zhao's voice came through quickly: The support team will arrive in five minutes. Hold on!
I hope they make it in time, Lin Xi muttered under her breath, swiftly adjusting her tactics and taking aim at the Mechanical Warrior's sensors, firing a shot.
The Mechanical Warrior clearly sensed the threat, its head snapping around to dodge the bullet before quickly locking onto Lin Xi and raising its blade to charge at her.
"Lin Xi, watch out!" Zhou Zheng shouted as he fired his weapon in an attempt to distract it, but it was evidently futile.
Lin Xi rolled away just in time to avoid the Mechanical Warrior's attack. She calmly took a few steps back, keeping her gaze fixed on the enemy's movements, looking for an opening.
After a brief standoff, the Mechanical Warrior seemed to realize it couldn't quickly eliminate its target. It suddenly emitted a sharp electronic screech. Moments later, two more identical Mechanical Warriors emerged from behind the bushes, gradually closing in on them.
"We're the prey now," Zhou Zheng said with a bitter smile, a hint of despair in his tone.
"The prey can also become hunters," Chen Rui replied coldly. He pulled out his last smoke grenade from his tactical backpack and said to Lin Xi and Zhou Zheng: "We can't fight them head-on here. We'll use smoke cover to retreat and wait for support!"
Lin Xi nodded and loaded her last grenade into her launcher: "You throw the smoke grenade; I'll cover our retreat."
Zhou Zheng grabbed a piece of rubble and took a deep breath: "This time I'll hold them off; I'll do what I can."
Chen Rui remained silent as he hurled the smoke grenade towards the Mechanical Warriors. Thick smoke billowed out instantly, obscuring their vision completely. Lin Xi seized the chance to fire her grenade, hitting one of the warrior's leg joints precisely and temporarily pushing it back.
"Go!" Chen Rui shouted as the three quickly turned and dashed deeper into the jungle under the cover of smoke.
As they retreated, however, the three Mechanical Warriors did not pursue but remained stationary. Their sensors slowly rotated as if waiting for some command.
After a moment, a low, cold voice emanated from their communication system: "Continue pursuit; the target must not escape."
The Mechanical Warriors activated again and began chasing into the depths of the jungle. Meanwhile, in a distant location, a mysterious figure coldly observed everything through a screen.
The prey is clever, but this hunting game has only just begun, the mysterious person said slowly, a bloodthirsty smirk playing on their lips.
