Lin Xi stood in the center of the hall, her gaze fixed on the rotating ring. She could sense an unusual Energy Fluctuation, as if something was peering at them from the other side of the door.
This device didn't seem designed for research. Zhou Zheng lowered his voice, gripping his weapon tightly; it felt more like some kind of passageway.
Chen Rui quickly scanned the Rift Gate, complex data jumping across the screen: it was operational, and the Energy Fluctuation was very strong, indicating a connection to somewhere.
Connected to where? Lin Xi asked, her tone tinged with anxiety.
Chen Rui shook his head: It's unclear. But based on the frequency, it might not be coordinates from our realm.
Director Zhao looked around and said solemnly: No matter where it leads, we must destroy it as soon as possible. Leaving something like this here will only pose a threat.
The question is how to destroy it? Zhou Zheng frowned. Should we just blow it up? Given its structure, if it explodes, the entire Area might be consumed.
Let Chen Rui analyze the core structure of the device first. Director Zhao calmly issued orders while others stood guard, ready to report any unusual movements immediately.
Lin Xi and Zhou Zheng took positions on either side of the Rift Gate, vigilantly watching their surroundings. The lights in the hall flickered ominously, and it felt as though countless eyes were watching them from the metallic walls.
It's too quiet here, Lin Xi murmured, tightening her grip on her gun.
Quiet? Zhou Zheng chuckled bitterly; I think it's more like deathly silence.
Just as Lin Xi was about to respond, Chen Rui's urgent voice crackled through their earpieces: We have a situation! The Energy Fluctuation of the Rift Gate is increasing dramatically; it seems to be actively attracting something!
Before he could finish speaking, a brilliant blue light erupted from the ring of the Rift Gate, its rotation accelerating sharply. A deep rumbling filled the air, as if the entire space was vibrating.
What's happening? Director Zhao frowned and quickly moved closer to Chen Rui.
The rift is expanding! Chen Rui rapidly operated the equipment; it's trying to enter full activation mode—something is about to come through!
Something? Zhou Zheng's voice sharpened; what is it?
Chen Rui didn’t answer; his eyes were glued to the screen, cold sweat dripping from his forehead: Unknown biological entities, number unspecified—likely products of the Dark Flow Experiment!
Lin Xi's heart sank suddenly. At that moment, a shadow surged forth from the Rift Gate, spreading across the ground like liquid. Then, a strange creature slowly rose from within the shadow.
It had a slender form covered in what appeared to be pitch-black metal, its eyes glowing with a chilling red light. Even more bizarrely, its limbs seemed capable of freely morphing, sharp blades slicing through the air with a piercing sound.
Open fire! Director Zhao commanded without hesitation.
Lin Xi and Zhou Zheng pulled their triggers simultaneously, bullets raining down on the creature. However, its movements were astonishingly swift; it glided across the ground effortlessly evading all attacks.
It's too fast! Lin Xi shouted as she adjusted her aim again, but the target vanished once more.
Above us! Chen Rui yelled out.
Lin Xi looked up and saw the creature leap onto the metal beam of the hall. Its eyes flashed red, and it unleashed an electrified thread that shot straight towards Zhou Zheng.
Zhou Zheng rolled to the side in a panic, narrowly avoiding the attack, but the thread landed and quickly spread out like tentacles, pursuing him relentlessly.
These things are too bizarre! Zhou Zheng gasped for breath and threw a grenade in an attempt to force the enemy back.
Focus on the joints! Director Zhao calmly directed. Its movements are fast, but the core is likely in the center of its body; attack there!
Lin Xi took a deep breath, quickly aimed at the creature's waist, and fired as it leaped again. A round of armor-piercing ammunition struck true, piercing through its outer armor and splattering dark red liquid.
The creature let out a sharp shriek, its body twisting violently, yet it did not fall.
