"Effective!" Lin Xi shouted, continuing the attack.
Zhou Zheng took the opportunity to create some distance, suppressing the target alongside Lin Xi, while Director Zhao calmly observed its movement patterns.
"Watch out, it's becoming erratic!" Chen Rui warned. "Its core is likely damaged!"
Director Zhao narrowed his eyes and suddenly drew a dagger, coldly saying, "Cover me."
"What?" Lin Xi and Zhou Zheng were momentarily stunned.
But Director Zhao offered no further explanation. He flashed forward, quickly closing in on the creature, moving as fast as a gust of wind. Before the creature could react, he plunged the dagger deep into its chest.
The creature's movements halted abruptly, the red light in its eyes dimming rapidly before it collapsed with a thunderous crash, transforming into a pool of dark liquid that spread across the ground.
"It's done." Director Zhao calmly withdrew his dagger and glanced at the remnants on the floor.
The atmosphere in the hall finally returned to calm, but the Rift Gate continued to spin, its blue light growing increasingly intense.
"Hurry!" Director Zhao shouted. "Find a way to shut down this device!"
Chen Rui focused intently on operating the equipment. After a moment, he looked up with a complicated expression. "The core system of this gate has been locked down; attempting to shut it down could trigger an explosion."
"Then we need to find another way!" Director Zhao's tone was icy. "We don't have time!"
Lin Xi frowned. "What happens if we destroy it?"
"The entire area could be obliterated, but at least we can prevent more creatures from coming through," Chen Rui replied.
Director Zhao pondered for a moment before finally issuing the command: "Prepare for detonation. Destroy the Rift Gate at minimal cost."
Chen Rui nodded and quickly retrieved high-energy explosive devices from his backpack, placing several directional bombs around the Rift Gate.
The timer was set for three minutes. "We need to evacuate immediately," Chen Rui said.
The group swiftly exited the hall, retracing their steps toward the entrance. Just as they were about to leave the building, an even more piercing whisper echoed through their earpieces.
"Warning!" Lin Xi suddenly stopped in her tracks. "The sounds have changed!"
"It's a warning," Chen Rui's face turned pale. "They've discovered our plan."
Director Zhao waved his hand dismissively. "No matter what they've found out, we have to leave!"
The group burst out of the building just as they reached a safe distance when a deafening explosion erupted behind them. The building housing the Rift Gate was instantly engulfed in flames, producing a thunderous roar.
But before they could catch their breath, a strange energy fluctuation radiated from the ruins, striking all four of them and sending them crashing to the ground.
Lin Xi struggled to stand up and looked up at the ruins, only to find that the blue light still had not completely faded.
"Is it still there?" Her voice trembled.
"We didn't destroy it," Director Zhao gritted his teeth as he stood up. "The technology of the Dark Current is far more complex than we imagined."
Just then, an urgent report suddenly came through the communicator: "Shadow Blade Team! There is a new emergency situation! Return to base and act immediately!"
Lin Xi glanced at the ruins still flickering with blue light, her mind filled with questions. What was the Dark Current planning? And what kind of terror lay hidden behind the Rift Gate?
