"Understood!" Zhou Zheng charged forward, launching a fireball at the monster's head, successfully diverting its focus onto himself.
Lin Xi seized the opportunity, quickly firing from the side. The bullets accurately struck the core of the monster's chest. It seemed to suffer a fatal blow but instead became even more enraged.
"It's getting stronger!" Zhou Zheng exclaimed while dodging the monster's attacks. "Why can't we kill it?"
"This isn't an ordinary Rift Creation," Chen Rui gritted his teeth and said. "It might be a fusion entity; its core needs to be attacked from multiple points simultaneously to be destroyed!"
"Multiple points of attack?" Lin Xi instantly understood. "Chen Rui, prepare a disruption grenade. Zhou Zheng, use high-explosive grenades aimed at its tail. I'll handle the frontal distraction."
The three quickly divided their roles and formed a seamless collaboration. While Lin Xi attracted the monster's attention, Chen Rui threw a disruption grenade from a distance, instantly interfering with the monster's energy flow. Zhou Zheng took the chance to throw a high-explosive grenade, which detonated at the monster's tail.
With a piercing scream, the monster's core finally became exposed. Lin Xi aimed at its chest core and decisively fired, landing a penetrating shot!
The monster's body trembled violently before dissolving into a cloud of black mist, disappearing into thin air.
With the barrier before the rift gone, the three cautiously approached. Lin Xi took a deep breath and stepped into the center of the rift, discovering an entirely different world inside.
It was a vast underground hall, with walls covered in intricate runes. In the center stood a massive Black Crystal, radiating intense Energy Fluctuation.
Is this the core of the Abyss Project? Chen Rui stared at the Crystal in awe, unable to help but murmur.
"It might just be part of it," Lin Xi replied, scanning their surroundings warily. "This is enough to indicate that the rift wasn't accidental; it was deliberately created."
Zhou Zheng stepped forward and cautiously touched the runes on the wall. Suddenly, a series of blurry images flashed through his mind: laboratories, researchers, the initial opening of the rift, and a cold-faced man in black clothing.
"Leader Lin," Zhou Zheng trembled as he spoke. "I saw some images. They aren't just studying the rift; they're trying to open a door to another world."
"Another world?" Lin Xi furrowed his brow. "What does that mean?"
"I don't know for sure," Zhou Zheng raised his head, deep concern evident in his eyes. "But one thing is certain: they don't just want to control the rift; they want to transform this world into an extension of the Abyss."
Lin Xi took a deep breath. "No matter what their goal is, we can't let this plan continue."
Chen Rui nodded. "This Crystal might be key; we must find a way to destroy it."
Just as they prepared to act, the entire underground hall began to tremble. The runes on the walls emitted blinding light as a familiar deep voice echoed through the air:
"Welcome to the Abyssal Eye, prey."
