In the dead of night, Lin Xi and her team completed their meeting and returned to their respective posts for the final preparations for battle. However, she could not shake off the unease that lingered in her heart. The emergence of the Shadow Stone Device and the Shadow Entity had complicated the situation, and it seemed that the enemy's plans were progressing methodically. They were forced to follow the clues, unraveling the mystery step by step.
"What do they intend to do with the awakening of the Shadow Entity and the control over human will?" Lin Xi murmured to herself.
She walked into the command room, where a round of satellite scan results was displayed on the screen. Among the red markers indicating the locations of the Shadow Stone Device, one position stood out prominently—it was located at a coordinate in an underwater area. This could be the core of the Abyss Project, she thought, her brow furrowing deeper.
Meanwhile, Chen Rui was in the technical lab checking equipment when a sudden discovery caught his attention. The team leader beside him was busy analyzing the last segment of encrypted information extracted from a metal box.
"Chen Rui, come take a look at this," the team leader said, his voice tinged with tension and excitement.
The text on the screen gradually became visible:
"The Abyss Network covers global nodes; all human consciousness will be unified under management. Objective: to end free will and initiate an era."
"Are they establishing a global mental control system?" Chen Rui's heart raced. They were not merely testing in localized areas; they had begun comprehensive infiltration!
"Exactly," the team leader nodded. "The Shadow Stone is not just a weapon; it is a core connector. It can unify human brainwave signals into what is called the Abyss Network."
"If they succeed, it would mean that all humanity would become puppets," Chen Rui murmured. He immediately grabbed his radio to contact Lin Xi. "Leader Lin, we have made a discovery; this may be the enemy's ultimate plan."
Lin Xi rushed to the lab, and after hearing Chen Rui's explanation, her gaze turned icy.
"Where are the nodes of the Abyss Network? Can we destroy them?" she asked.
The team leader shook his head. "Based on our understanding of the Shadow Stone Device locations, these nodes are extremely well-hidden and mostly within enemy-controlled areas. More importantly, this network's control system may be located underwater, which is currently one of the most difficult areas to access."
"Difficult does not mean impossible," Lin Xi replied firmly. "We must stop it at all costs."
"There's one more thing," the team leader hesitated before adding. "This network seems to not only control but also continuously learns and optimizes its algorithms. In other words, both the Shadow Entity and the network are becoming increasingly powerful."
"Increasingly powerful means increasingly dangerous, but it also means their core system might expose more weaknesses," Lin Xi analyzed calmly. "We need to continue tracking their movements while preparing our infiltration plan."
A few hours later, leads began to surface. Lin Xi's squad received orders to head towards the nearest Shadow Stone Device node for reconnaissance and destruction missions.
Before departing, Zhou Zheng entered Lin Xi's office with a briefing document. "Leader Lin, here are all relevant data we've just compiled."
Lin Xi took the briefing and skimmed through it, frowning slightly. "This node is too close to enemy frontline bases; it's highly risky."
"We know that, but this might be a key point to break through the Abyss Project," Zhou Zheng replied. "Besides, we are accustomed to high-risk missions, aren't we?"
Lin Xi chuckled lightly and set down the briefing. "Alright then, notify everyone to assemble in ten minutes."
On the night of departure, Lin Xi felt particularly heavy-hearted. The closer they got to the enemy's core plan, the more she could sense how terrifying the Abyss Project was. This was not just a battle; it was a race against time and intelligence.
Under cover of darkness, her squad arrived at their target area. It was a research station hidden deep within a valley, surrounded by dense forests and high-tech defense systems.
Through the Infrared Detector, Lin Xi observed that there were at least twenty Enemy Soldiers patrolling both inside and outside the research station.
