"Leader Lin, a direct assault is nearly impossible; we need to divert their attention," Chen Rui whispered, marking several vulnerable points on the tactical tablet.
Lin Xi nodded and quickly assigned tasks: "Chen Rui, take your team to create chaos at the North Power Control Station. Zhou Zheng and I will lead our team to infiltrate."
Receiving the order, Chen Rui immediately mobilized his team. A few minutes later, a loud explosion shattered the night's tranquility as the North Power Control Station erupted in chaos, engulfing the entire research facility.
Now! Lin Xi seized the opportunity to lead her team swiftly towards the main building of the research station. They navigated through the fierce combat area, evading enemy fire, and successfully infiltrated the interior of the building.
Inside, the Shadow Stone Device and Energy Core were operational, emitting a low hum. A massive Shadow Stone floated in the center, surrounded by intricate machinery and conduits.
"This is the Node Core," Lin Xi whispered. "Zhou Zheng, set up the explosives."
"Understood!" Zhou Zheng replied, pulling out demolition equipment and quickly beginning the installation.
Just then, a deep laughter echoed through the air as a tall dark figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
"I've been waiting for you," the figure said with a cold mockery.
Lin Xi warily drew her weapon and aimed at the figure. "Who are you?"
"I am what you cannot defeat," the shadow replied, its voice resonating in the hall. "Do you really think destroying one node can stop the Abyss Project? How naive!"
Suddenly, the shadow swung its arm, unleashing a powerful wave of energy towards Lin Xi. She and Zhou Zheng quickly dodged, but the shockwave still knocked them to the ground.
"Protect the core!" Lin Xi shouted.
Zhou Zheng gritted his teeth and continued working on the explosives, trying to complete their task as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Lin Xi picked up her weapon and engaged in a desperate fight with the shadow.
The shadow's strength was far beyond that of an ordinary person; each attack felt like tearing through waves of air. As Lin Xi dodged, she searched for an opening in its defenses, but it seemed that the shadow had no physical form—her strikes all missed their mark.
"Stop struggling; you are no match for me," it taunted. "The Abyss Network is about to be completed; you cannot stop it!"
However, Lin Xi did not back down. She calmly observed the shadow's movements and gradually discerned its weaknesses. Just as it lunged at her again, she decisively detonated her device, unleashing a powerful electromagnetic pulse that swept through the entire hall.
The shadow let out a horrific scream as its form twisted and flickered.
"Zhou Zheng, now!" Lin Xi shouted.
Without hesitation, Zhou Zheng pressed the detonation switch. The Core Area was instantly engulfed in an explosion as the Shadow Stone Device shattered amidst flames.
The shadow disintegrated into nothingness, vanishing from sight.
"Mission accomplished; retreat!" Lin Xi commanded loudly.
The squad quickly evacuated from the research station. As they looked back at the rising flames behind them, each face bore signs of exhaustion, but they knew this was just the beginning of their battle.
